    New P3B-F Upgrade Install Pro?

hehe, changing mobo and other hardware in w2k is really fun just shut down, replace the mainboard, and start it up normally. After one or at max two restarts you are done. I did so when i upgraded from my p3b-f to an athlon mobo. Only had to reinstall the nvidia drivers afterwards, but all other drivers remained...

    Burning without admin rights ?!?!

If you have a scsi cd-r and an adaptec controller you can download the aspi32.exe from adaptec's ftpserver and delete the wnaspi32.dll in nero's folder. then you will be able to burn CD-Rs without being admin Nero still complains, but it works anyways Maybe this also works with easy cd creator, i don't know... DRIVE IMAGE/GHOST/DYNAMIC DISKS and FUBARS

last time i visited pq's website, they didn't claim they are win2k compatible with the current versions of their progs. There will be updates though, to provide compatibility

Which is higher SCSI card? 29160 ? or 29160N?

if you can get the 29160 cheaper than the 29160n, go for the cheaper one, i also did . It's a 64bit PCI card! (and still works in a standard 32bit PCI). You'll get four scsi connectors which you can use at all the same time, two of them (external + one internal) being LVD scsi, the two other internal ones are just U(W). Quite nice

    rescan scsi-bus

hiho, anybody knows a way to rescan the scsi bus in win2k to find devices that have not been powered on when the computer started. In win98 it was easy - just needed to press "update" in devicemanager, but that does not help in win2k... :-( thx

    rescan scsi-bus

well, i need this feature... i have some special hardware (my DVB satellite receiver) connected to my computer through scsi. But my prog won't find it on the scsi if it wasn't switched on during bootup or if i switch it off and then on again later while windows is still running. using rescan in win98 the receiver was found again. So i need it... Any idea?
  8. There is an update from MS for w2k concerning games. Don't know the exact filename anymore but you should be able to find it on their site. If you haven't installed it yet, that could maybe help...
  9. Anyone having this fine piece of hardware working in win2k? Since win didn't recognize the wheel, I installed the TM ProPanel ver1.1. Then I added it to available joysticks but win always thinks that there is no device connected... What should I do? NE1 got an idea? thx ps: maye i should add that i have connected it to my SBLive! (still with default win2k drivers) [This message has been edited by vf (edited 23 March 2000).]
  10. The way to reduce cpu usage should be to make windows _use_ an interrupt for the parallel port. Otherwise win always has to ask if new data is to be sent out to the lpt, and that causes the 100% usage. But as euankirkhope already said (and also windows-help) - that can produce new issues you maybe don't want to deal with... [This message has been edited by vf (edited 23 March 2000).]

    winTOP

Hi, under Win9x i was using winTOP from the MS KernelToys. Unfortunately that doesn't work under Win2000 anymore. Does anyone know of a similar tool, preferably share- or freeware? For those who don't know: winTOP shows you all the threads of a program plus the CPU usage of every single one, not only the usage of the prog. as does the builtin taskmanager. Therefore it is really nice when writing cpu-intensive applications to see which thread is currently running and so... Thx

    winTOP

OK, I installed it now, but unfortunately it only updates when I press update... I need constant updates without any user-interaction. NE1 have another hint?

    Unix Envairment / Samba

But what is easier - changing the registry on _all_ workstations or just making _one_ samba-server use encrypted passwords?
  14. vf

    Unix Envairment / Samba

Should work too, if you know the registry path... But why didn't you use encrypted passwords from the beginning on?
  15. vf

    Unix Envairment / Samba

You need to enable encrypted passwords in samba, then it should work, at least here it does. For me, the other direction is not working (accessing a 2000 share from samba). Still haven't found anything to solve that.

    remembering LAN passwords

Hi, How do I make W2k remember the passwords and usernames for shares on other computers? On every login it asks me to type them in again...

    remembering LAN passwords

thx for your reply. I already set windows to reconnect the needed shares on login that didn't help (I meant that when writing that win asks for the pass on every login) It would be nice if you could remember where you found the description of this registry hack Thanx

    Windows 2000 uncompression!!!

You didn't really install linux on a fat partition, did you? Although it is possible I would never recommend doing so. Linux has it's own filesystem currently ext2fs. If you just want to exchange data, for linux there exists a driver to handle ntfs filesystems.
  22. I have a Win98/2000 network here, but the Win98 do not see any shares on the 2000 workstations. Is there a trick to make them give access to those? Allowed Users in the 2000 share is "everyone" with "Full Control, Change, Read" enabled, should be enough, or? I testwise also enabled the Guest account, didn't help. Anyone having success with this? sharing with older Windows'

OK, the 98 machines do see the 2000 boxes in the neighbourhood. They can also access them, but there are simply no shares shown, no password is asked for. Also, they can ping each other and all are in the same subnet. -> It worked before when all machine were running 98. Could it maybe be that the Win2000 boxes are trying to get domainmaster browsers or so or Wins Servers, cause I have a linuxserver, doing that already.
