I had the same problem, SP1 fixed it for me.

I had a similar problem in some games. The problem went away when I disabled EAX. Hope this helps.

A few months ago, someone posted a memory tweak. Something like UsePhysicalMemory=1 in system.ini. Does anyone remember this, or have a link to this? Thanks for your help.

on the via download page, there's also a file, agp403d.exe, or something like that, it's supposed to be installed when you do the 4in1, but it's worth a shot to install that separately

If that doesn't work, the instructions for the NFS4 demo should. To play the game in Direct3D do the follow: 1. You'll need to have Need for Speed III installed on your computer (ie.Win98 partition) or your Need for Speed III CD handy for this to work. 2. Make a backup of the 3DData.dat file in the x:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes Demo\3dsetup directory. 3. Replace the files in the x:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes Demo\3dsetup directory with the ones in your NFS3 Installation or your NFS3 CD. 4. Replace the 3DData.dat file with the backup you made in step 2. 5. Run 3D Device Setup, and choose "Direct3D Device 1". You'll get some error message about this being untested, ignore it.

you can get directx 5 for nt, go to http://ftpsearch.lycos.com and search for dx5nt4.zip that should help some, but I totally recommend getting win2000 if you can.

actually the last compatibility update was supposed to screw up half-life, I didn't try it, but the supposed update did cause problems, and there was a fix on the site here. if you're not having problems now, I wouldn't touch the update

Nvidia has officially released Detonator 2 drivers on their website The filename for Win2k is w2k-522.zip
-
I'm not too impressed with the new drivers. Everything still seems to work, but in UT I've lost about 6 fps when going from the last official (3.78) drivers. Any suggest any tweaks to help correct this? what about the setting for FSAA?
-
I don't see it at anywhere either...I think 1.1.0.0 is still nonexistent at this point

I'm using D3D, I think there's better support for D3D and Glide in UT rather than OGL. But I didn't notice a big frame rate difference between D3D and OGL on my TNT.

go to Tools, Folder Options there's a setting there to have all folders remember the settings...I don't remember exactly what is, I'm at work and on a 98 machine
-
last time I tried it, Win98SE added itself to the boot menu without causing any problems. As far as having both on the same partition, Win2k and win98 will share folders such as Program Files, but hopefully that won't cause any problems for you
-
boot from Win98 cd click Next and reboot as necessary set Win2k to be default OS

the administrator password won't work, the easiest way to get this work is to enable the guest account

thankfully I don't have any sticky key problems in Unreal Tournament, (Rogue Spear is my only game with that issue), but I do have another problem. After playing single player for about 15 minutes, UT starts choking, dropping to 3-4 fps instead of my normal 25-30 fps. If I exit UT at this time, it seems two processes are eating up my processor time...explorer.exe and csrss.exe I didn't have this problem before while playing the demo and the only change to my system was to reduce my RAM from 192 to 160 MB. I don't think that's really the issue though, it's CPU usage not mem usage that's the problem. anyone else heard of this? some more info PII 266 - 160 MB CL Riva TNT - 3.68 SB Live! yeah, just tried that, performance seemed a bit better, but still choked after about 15 mins, this time dropped it down to 7-8 fps, damn annoying that you can't play more than a level or two at a time
-
I tried to get it last night, it was on the downloads page, but not Windows update. But the link was bad when I tried to download it
-
last time I installed Win98, Win2k picked up the new OS and added it the boot menu and made it the default. I didn't have to do anything, it may just be an isolated case, but it worked perfectly for me

here's what you're looking for http://www.ntcompatible.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000129.html

yeah, can you provide more information...have you tested this? NFS5 works better or worse depending on where the page file is located?? the program wouldn't even know the difference between page file and physical memory, so I don't understand how this would affect it

all right...let the truth be known I AM JDULMAGE!!!!! just kidding....
