the 500-1000 page file is probably overkill...how much physical RAM do you have? after using your system for a while, check the max memory usage, then you can set the page file so that your physical ram + page file is a bit larger than your max memory usage [This message has been edited by LM (edited 06 May 2000).]

right click on My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Performance options(?) allows you to set page file size on all your drives or partitions I believe there would be a greater perfomance increase if the second hard drive was on a different IDE channel

if you don't have win98SE or win2k, you'll have to use another program to share internet access. Something like WinGate, WinRoute, Sygate...there's lots of different ones. [This message has been edited by LM (edited 30 April 2000).]

We have a second line here which is used exclusively as a fax line, I'd like to use that line for internet access as well, but is there a program that will disconnect the computer whenever there is an incoming fax, I guess I could use a fax program to recieve and then print the faxes, but I'd rather have the fax machine answer...can anyone think of a program that would do this for me? thanks

of course I want DSL! but we live in a rural area, and DSL isn't available here. I think cable will be available but not for another 6 months or so. I'm stuck on dialup again for a while, I had DSL when I was in college, and boy do I miss it now...

well, I haven't really found what I'm looking for, and thinking about it some more, I don't think there's going to be an easy solution to this. What I was thinking of was a program like along the lines of an internet call waiting program...some of them give you the option to hangup and receive the call when there's an incoming call, but you need call waiting on your line, and that's not really what I want. Thanks for your ideas, I was hoping there was something available to do that, but wasn't really expecting to find something that would do it for me

Anyone have problems with Partition Magic 5.0 under win2k?
LM replied to EddiE314's topic in Software
take it easy Eddie! you said you used a pirated copy of PM5, I'm sure that everyone on this board assumed you downloaded a warez copy, you had no reason to go after 5t3ph3n and/or Ge0ph -
Works great for me. installed fine, set it to use my video card (TNT), and I'm ready to play. The only problem I've had is when simulating a season, the dates don't show up right...above and below the progress bar, the numbers are corrupted

It's time to upgrade my mobo/cpu, right now I have a PII 266 with 192 MB of ram. I'm considering dual Celerons around 500 Mhz or an Athlon system around 700-800 Mhz. I still use Win98 for a few programs. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,

well, I've pretty much made up my mind, sort of, I'll probably get an Asus K7V with an Athlon 800, but I'm going to wait a month or two first. A new hard drive is more of a concern right now, my 6.4 GB is ready to burst... thanks for everyone's thoughts

Menu delay is probably at 0 seconds right click on My Computer, Advanced, Startup/Shutdown will let you choose which OS to boot and how long to wait. Forgive me if the details aren't quite right, I'm at work and don't have Win2k in front of me

Thanks Damien, I like the Cels because of the low cost, the prices I've seen, I can get 2 Cel 500s for the same price as 1 Athlon 600. BUT, as you said, the Cels have limitations, and I've spoken to others who have used the Athlons, and they love them as well. Maybe I'll have to wait a couple of weeks and think on this some more.

sorry Felix, this has been a long time coming, and the only reason I can get it now is due to the wonders of VISA yeah, I like both options, but I'll have to do more research before deciding which is best for me.

Has anyone tried running the new version of Music Match Jukebox (ver 5)? It installed fine under Win2k (build 2128) but gave an error like "The ordinal 20 could not be loaded from the drmclien.dll" when trying to run the program. I'd like to get the program running because the basic version offers mp3 encoding up to 320 kbps.
-
for anyone else who is experiencing this problem, the fix is to rename or delete the drmclien.dll in the winnt\system dir prior to installing mmjb5

anyone signed up the Diablo II beta yet? says they don't support W2K during beta test, but will for final version I signed up anyway of course, I wonder if there's any good reason for them not supporting it?

didn't work for me, I got an error saying that the files are corrupted, please reinstall process: had NFSHS installed under win98, exported reg. entries, imported in Win2k, ran nfshs.exe, and got the PatchRestart error, tried adding -d3d1 and got the corrupt files error

still using beta2, but I plan to get the oem version when I upgrade my hd...I'd consider pirating something like MSOffice, that I'd only use once a week, but for an OS, I don't think so
-
I had/have the same problem, but only when starting a multiplayer game, not when joining. But it also did it in win98, card is CL Graphics Blaster TNT

open up Task Manager, processes tab, and look at the CPU Time for the System Idle Process.

I don't think it's really necessary (or a good idea) for there to be a software/OS monopoly, far more importent is having a set of standards; one format for documents, one format for zip files, etc...then users could use whatever they want, Linux, Windows, Mac, anything, I think that would be a better alternative to MS monopoly

it's Personalized Menus, Microsoft's fancy-schmancy way to make navigating menus "easier"...it's a pain in the ass... go to Taskbar & Start menu properties and kill it dead!

got it to work! when creating the ini file, I omitted the last section "-q10009" the installation program ran fine, (except it was in Spanish), but it installed and I can play it, now I just need to get D3D support...sigh...

goto www.win2knews.com/files.htm lots of good stuff there, The setwin95 worked for me, but the _ins5576.exe programs says it can't find _sys1.cab, I'm guessing it's the syntax of the ini file, but I haven't figured it out yet
