Yup. I have a SoundBlaster Live! also and it stutters in EQ. I had a MX300 before this and there was no problem. So, I'm assuming it's a screwy driver/game problem. The only way I can find to get rid of the stutter is to turn down game music all the way.

I was just looking at my date on the side there...Jan 2000. It's hard to believe that I've been a member of this board for nearly a year now. Anyways, the question still stands. How the heck do I get Pod to work? The Pod I'm referring to was one of the first "MMX Enhanced" games and was distributed by UbiSoft. It's not that old. Sensei http://www.domainofgames.com

Do any of you guys remember the old game called Pod? Well, I'm trying to get the damn thing to work in Windows 2000! I've done what it says to do on the compatibility list, but whenever I click on it, it does nothing. I get slight hard disk activity like it's about to start, but then it never does. It's not running in tasks either. Has anyone else had this problem? My system specs are: Athlon 650 Gigabyte 7IX 288 MB PC100 RAM Voodoo 5 5500

For Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex, I use 1024x768 in Glide mode. It never drops below 50 fps at 1024x768. It's amazing how much better games based on the Unreal engine run in their native glide mode. They even feel better. I don't normally use FSAA in first person shooters, but Half-Life is the exception. With Half-Life, I can pull 30 - 40 fps at 1024x768 and 4x FSAA. Now, that may seem low, but it does not drop below 30. For me, the visual quality improvement is well worth not getting 60 fps. I can drop it to 800x600 and my performance increases a lot. The only mode I've tried in Unreal Tournament is 4x FSAA at 1024x768 and it wasn't playable. It had some pretty bad controller lag. I might try 800x600 later. I bought a Voodoo 5 5500 and have no problems in Windows 2000. Honestly, just pick a video card based on the games you play. Like for me, I play lots of RPGs, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, and stuff like that. For me, there was no card better than the V5. Pete

Go on over to www.3dfxgamers.com and check in the drivers secttion. Pete

I'm beginning to think you're right about the AMD-751 AGP miniport driver being the cause of the problem. Really, there is nothing we can do about it either except buy a new motherboard. I just don't see AMD releasing AGP miniport drivers anytime soon. Pete

The thing is...how can it be the power supply or the video card not getting enough juice if it works flawlessly in Windows 98 or Windows Millennium? Pete

Ok. I know that a lot of us have been having the same problem. It's the problem with any Nvidia drivers past 3.66. Basically, I get random lockups in my games with any of the latest drivers and even the occasional one with 3.66, but much much rarer. I've heard many solutions such as your RAM brands have to match..I've tried that...same problem. I've heard that completely clean installs work...nope. I've done that too. That's not it. Lets start trying to narrow this down. My system is as follows: AMD Athlon 650 Gigabyte 7IX 160 MB PC100 Guillemot Xentor 32 Diamond MX300 Pete

Well, all my lockups were solved by completely uninstalling 5.16 and going all the way back to a fresh install of 3.66. I lost some performance in it, but at least it's stable. Basically, I think I just need to get away from the AMD 750 series chipset. Maybe a KX133 board is in my future and a brand new Geforce 2 GTS...or perhaps a Voodoo 5 5500. I dunno. I just wish there was a better solution. Pete

In Windows 2000, I get random lockups in Counter-Strike. This happens with any drivers as far back as 3.66. I figured it was an AGP problem since I have an AMD chipset motherboard, but the games run flawlessly in Windows 98. Both Windows 2000 and Windows 98 show AGP running at 2X with sidebanding disabled. Yet, in Windows 98, I can play for hours without a single problem, but in Windows 2000, it'll lock up at some point. Basically, I want to use Windows 2000 exclusively, but this problem drives me crazy. Another thing, games like Aliens vs Predator lock the moment I get into the game and if by some miracle I can get past the opening few seconds, it will definitely lock up within the next 10 minutes. Has anyone else had this problem? My specs are: AMD Athlon 650 Gigabyte 7IX 160 MB PC100 Xentor 32 Pete

Yeah. I'd be willing to give those registry files a try. Most of the Nvidia entries in the registry look identical to those in 98. I think it might just work. Just email them to me at pbryant@fastlane.net Pete

Is there any way to force my Xentor 32 into AGP 1X mode without using Powerstrip? Everytime I try to use the function in Powerstrip, I get a hard lock. So, my hands are kind of tied at this point. Basically, my system is instable at AGP 2X and the performance hit is very small when going to AGP 1X so I figured I'd drop it down a notch. I just can't figure out how. Pete

New AOL 5.0 for Windows 2000 just went up today. Usually, they'll block the older builds within a couple of weeks of a new release. Be sure to upgrade if you don't have version 204.29. Pete

Well, no matter where I looked, no place gives you free unlimited webspace. Even when they say they do, they put a filesize limit on. So, I'll just host it on my FTP. 209.197.221.11 username: aol password: aol Pete
