DQD: 1. try the 8.04's and 8.05's. 2. disable v-sync 3. turn Anti-Aliasing off 4. play around with the AGP Aperture size, i have mine set to 64 5. make sure AGP 4x is on. 6. Kill any b.ullshit processes 7. Overclock 8. wierd how you can't or barely break 60fps, try raising the refresh rate. Quake 3 uses OGL, i have only seen a nice boost with D3D which is fine for me since i got a GF2MX. Try dong a comparison with 3DMark between the two systems. you'll see a performance boost with D3D, i saw a 1900 3dmark gain in 3dmark 2000 going from win2k to winxp, don't ask me why. pimpin_228 here on the boards also had a similar boost in performance also. I assume your settings are 4.5 x 100MHz, see if you can raise the fsb to 133, that will give you 600MHz, a little more ram couldn't hurt, 256 is pretty good and it's what i use in XP. Bandwidth is the key to a fast system. I got more suggestions, but try these simple ones first

I hate SP's, i'd rather apply Hotfixes and use AppCompat Toolkits, the SP's always change things that work fine for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd much rather download a 300KB hotfix than a 100MB SP that's gonna update things i don't care about. In my eyes, all a SP does is display "Service Pack X" under System Properties and break things, exactly why was it that ZoneAlarm worked on Win2k fine, but after SP1 i couldn't use the net anymore?? I dunno either, i reinstalled Windows. I can understand SP's for use on multiple Workstations that have different configs, but for the home user on a frickin 56k modem, a 100mb SP isn't too appealing considering the fact that it's not gonna do much for me and may have the potential to break things. just my opinion, i may be wrong.

Quote: i am buying XP Pro eventually, when that time comes, i'll install and and crack it, i care nothing about WPA nor do i see a point in Activating it. As i said on Page 2, i AM going to buy it, then i'm gonna activate it once then crack it for all of my other installs. Perhaps next time you should start at Page 1 and read every post

Bridgekeeper: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow? Bridgekeeper: Huh? I-- I don't know that! Auuuuuuuugh! Bedevere: How do know so much about swallows? Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

every single AMD-VIA config that i have seen or used has had problems, even though an Intel-VIA config works fine, go with the AMD 761.

i have a Creative Labs 3D Blaster Riva TNT 16MB AGP in my other machine, it's running the 12.90 drivers under Windows XP Pro 2526 RC2, it works fine for an older card, D3D Accel. works fine here, you might want to wait til later this week when the Detonator 4 20.80's get released.

shinglung: i just switched to 1600x1200 to check.....the start menu is so damned small i can barely read it, i use 1024x768x32bpp@85hz and the start menu is no too big, it's bigger than windows classic, but who gives a sh1t?

Norton Utilities Sucks a.ss man, been there, done that....nuff' said.

hopefully soon.......can't wait.

compare the performance of the old Det3 5.xx series to the 12.xx's or the 14.xx's, there's a nice boost in performance, i'm sure after some time the Det4's will get better no matter what NVidia card you have....and hopefully it will solve some people's XP+TNT2 problems.
-
Brian....allow me to let you in on a little secret....... <whisper>..you don't HAVE to buy it...</whisper> LOL, plenty of places to DL it, plenty of cracks too.
-
take Norton off of it man, i can't think of a more pathetic/memory-hog program.

whatever, i think its safe to assume that ME sucks.

Go NVidia!!! BUMP

woohoo, i love it.

Service Packs only make things worse in a lot of cases, how many people came here b1tching about problems with SP1 for Win2k? what about SP2? the only service packs that i didn't have trouble with were SP3 and SP6a for NT4. As for the rushing of XP....I have been using the Beta's and RC's for awhile, i have 2526 RC2 now and have not had one single problem with it, and far as i'm concerned it's ready for RTM.

AMD's manufacturing process IS NOT superior to Intel's. They're still using .18micro architecture, while Intel has moved on to the smaller, cooler, more power/heat-efficient .13micron architecture. AMD is at least a year behind Intel, they may be making faster and faster chips, but using old technology is gonna kill them. I assume you've heard about the New P3's and new P4's...watch out!
