installed the 40.41's and tried to play GTA3, go the following Stop Error: A Thread tried to release a resource it did not own. How Can i fix this? I can't use any of the new Detonator drivers such as the 29.42's without getting this stop error.

okay, here's what i do (forgive me if i'm a bit off, it's been awhile): 1. Install Video Card 2. Install Video Card Drivers & Restart Windows 3. Install Quake by running Windows 98 compatibility mode on "DEICE.EXE" on your Quake CD. 4. Install GLQuake 1114 5. DO NOT install anything related to "3Dfx" 6. Play GLQuake And what the hell is "OpenGL95.exe" doing on your system anyway?

i have tried my cpu and video card at default speeds/voltages, i have also raised/lowered my AGP Aperture size and still no luck, the 22.80's work fine but i'd really like to know what the problem is so i can use the newer det's.

hey the TNT2 was a d.amned good card, slow, but good. Not much of a performance boost over the original TNT. As for the voodoo3, i have fail to find "good" Windows XP drivers for it, i have found some that work, but not well enough.

Whoa!! Keep the GF2MX200!!! The patch for the demo DOES fix the voodoo3 errors. These benchmarks suck, i don't even consider them benchmarks. Anyway: 1024x768x32bpp Fly-by: 119.613496 Bot Match: 38.7012391 only res i have tried is 1024x768, don't really care about the rest, most people don't.

i respect him as well, sometimes he gets a little too excited about security holes, like the time he was getting DoS attacks from those "script kiddies". Other than that he now has a utility on www.grc.com called "XPdite" that fixes this hole.

its a terrible game, full of [censored], violence, and drugs. you kill people, shoot stuff and complete little missions on the side, yes, it is a senseless game, tasteless also i might add, but i still like it and play it often.

just rename or delete "uplddrvinfo.htm" and it will stop this hole, sp1 does indeed fix this also.

I say stick to what DosFreak says and don't use it, i don't. I could care less. here's my opinion on copyrighted material though, sorry if it doesn't make sense or if i'm wrong, but i've been smoking a bit, so bear with me.. I feel that when i purchase a dvd or cd, the company signs over rights to that copy and that i then own it. this means when i buy games, movies, or music i make a personal "Fair Use" copy, this goes for all of my most viewed dvd's, thank god for divx(mpeg4)! and if i have problems ripping and encoding a particular dvd, i download an already encoded version, same goes for music too. not that this is really part of this topic, but i really don't care what companies do to protect against piracy, anything can be cracked. now i'm not saying i don't have "some" pirated material, but i don't try to make a bootlegging business out of it nor do i distribute it.

really? i used a beta of DX9 a while ago and it blew. Had to reinstall XP.

i'll have to second you on the scrollbar thing...very annoying. wmp9b is cool and all, but i still think it needs works, stick with wmp8, that is, if you don't mind reinstalling .NET sometime down the road.

Try going to http://www.filemirrors.com Do a search for "xpsp1". You're looking for a file with the build number 1106 and a file size of 137.15MB.

give some more of your system specs. one workaround for having to use cd's is to install CD1 normally, after the install is complete, copy (from the GTA3 CD2) the AUDIO folder and the two files: drvmgt.dll and secdrv.sys to your c:\program files\rockstar games\gtaiii\ folder, now install the version 1.1 patch and then use a version 1.1 no-cd crack. this is what i do so i don't mess up my $50 GTA3 cd-set. Also, make sure you install the NVidia/WinXP fix if you need to, do a search for this file from microsoft: Q306676_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe. To speed up GTA3 graphics-wise, try downloading a small app named HighFPS (try doing a search i Google for it), its options will allow you to turn off some aspects of the game that put a drain on performance (Leaves, Newspapers, etc), also, go into your options menu and turn off Trails. As for the copy protection mentioned above.....Never heard of it.
