i've been wondering the same about half the files in my root dir and such, there needs to be a list of crap files that you can trash. I'll look around on the web sometime.

haha, funny you should ask, not so funny that i don't have an answer for you. I have had the exact same problems! I've installed sp1 before anything too, (off my slipstreamed win2kSP1cd) and still i have no luck, so i installed regular win2k, installed sp1, ie5.5, etc....it screwed it up, so i uninstalled sp1....guess what? all's well. I dunno, i know many people's computers work fine after sp1, but mine don't (both of them). So if anyone has an answer, please, for the love of god, answer this question!

Good job Toby, props to noticing that its edited. I gotta find a harder one. the only problem is, most poeple don't know what various inf's look like, maybe post small pics from the registry and ask what key it is.

I never thought that i would say this 2 years ago, but i love IE, I used to use Netscape back in the 3x and 4x days when it actually worked ok, but i slowly started to move to IE, not because i was forced to or because it was built into the OS but because it loaded pages faster, looked better, loaded faster (built into OS..i know) and to be honest, i hated having to install it when i saw little or no difference over IE, besides, i like using OE too. I admit, i do kinda like Netscape mail (3x and 4x) better that OE, but hey, its built in, sorry if i am rambling but i just got up. PS, i do afree that 4x was too bloated in comparison to 3x. I think my fav version was 3.1 Gold or something like that, and if i can still find a website to download it, i would, just for nostalgic (sorry spelling) reasons. Yakkob, if you format and reinstall all the time then, yea, its a good idea and i have no problems with it, just saying, its not recommended. I do the same thing to my computer because i download and install so much crap and i'm a pack rat who never deletes anything, so i just format and get it over with.

Netscape 6 didn't impress me at all, i thought it was crap compared to Netscape 4.x. i didn't like the interface either, it seemed slow in response time.

yea, win98 first edition would run pretty good on that machine and the voodoo2 would also.

and alot of hardware (i.e. Creative Labs) doesn't have any win2k support, so winme is a great dual boot option.

first of all, do you know how cluttered it would be? Second of all, think about, two windows os's on one partition...i tell you what, go ahead and do it, it will work fine but after awhile you'll understand why you shouldn't have them both on one drive. I found out the hard way, this is the only way that you can learn.

Dear Win9x Users, I don't know if I can speak for most of the people in this Message Forum but I (EddiE314) am sorry for putting down 9x users, don't feel like a retard because you use Win9x/ME, maybe you just don't feel like paying $320 US for Win2k of just don't want to use it for whatever reason you may have. This site/message board is called NT Compatible, not 9x compatible, but being one of the most popular and helpful boards on the net the Admins and most of the members thought it would be a good idea to add a Windows 9x section and after much thought..so do I. So feel free to post any questions you may have and I can assure you that they will be answered in a professional fashion. We're pretty "laid-back" in this forum and sometimes you may not get the response you are looking for. Thank you for your time. -EddiE314

my bootup times almost match jdulmage's 37sec win2k, 19sec whistler 2257.

yea, and do you know how fast Whistler 2257 boots? its like 3-4 times faster that win2k 2195. But thats just startup wait till you see how fast the rest of the OS is.
