And since most of the Senior members there are in different timezones, i'll be there to help answer questions for those United States users who are up late. I am on Eastern Standard Time.

Hmmm, i dunno if that was a compliment or an insult. Oh well.

Compaqs are good if you are a beginner and never want to upgrade it. Other than that, build your own, its not that hard man, many many many people can tell you. Soory i couldn't help you with the upgrade question, i'm sure someone can help you.

Install WinME with 2K Server already on the system...
EddiE314 replied to Down8's topic in Legacy OS
actually, on the one box i have a 5gb c: and a 1.5gb d: i've installed win2k on the fat32 c: first and then booted with the win98 cd and installed winme on the d:, win2k made the changes to the boot.ini and it works fine. But i DO advise installing winme first. -
How to dual boot w2k and win98se?
EddiE314 replied to daboss1121's topic in Customization & Tweaking
you can't convert ntfs to fat32, you'd have to format it. or you could partition it into 2 drives, install win2k on c: and then in win2k format the d: as fat32, boot the system with the win98se cd and install to the d: win2k will make changes to the boot.ini and let you dual boot, but i reccommend having both partitons fat32 and installing win98se first on the d: (it will still boot, then install win2k, win2k will make the proper changes to the boot.ini and allow you to dual boot, you CAN install win98se and win2k on the same fat32 partiton, but don't! -
Problems Changing Win2K Startup Screen
EddiE314 replied to TheMag's topic in Customization & Tweaking
has to be 4bit, thats all i know -
try to be adults about it, most of us at one time were 9x users.
-
i can remember exactly how to do it, i know i've seen someone answer that question on here before, but be aware that if you do a clean install that your little Compaq buttons for your comp. won't work, also your modem may not work, i know mine didn't on my old Compaq that came with win95, i clean installed win98 (4.10.1998) and the modem wouldn't work anymore...oh well.

I have an old machine here (P75, 32mb ram, 3.2gb hdd) Wondering where i could fine IE4 with the web view shell enhancements. I can't stand going from 2 win2k machines over to the old win95 beater machine and having to deal with the folder browsing where it opens all separate windows for each folder, i know i can make it use only one window but still, i'd like for it to seem a little like win98 at least.
-
Yea, its hell when going from a win2k box to a win95b box, try it sometime, trust me, you'll give anything for some shell enhancements. Also, where do you go in the registry to make the os show icons in all possible colors, win95's are ugly.

Phillipp is right, since most of us already know Win9x like the back of our hand, we should at least help 9x users and not bash them (which I am also guilty of).
-
damnit jdulmage, why didn't you tell me about that before i formatted my hdd, i wanted to see some cool sh1t.

i thought we were posting to see if we could get this up to 100+ pages, oh, i got a question. How many people in here honestly don't pirate software? I know i don't. (..as i'm kicking cdr's under the bed...)

Oh No! Major Problem Upgrading to WinMe from Win2kAdvSer!!!!
EddiE314 replied to INFERNO2000's topic in Slack Space
<sarcasm> I was wondering, is it possible to upgrade Win2k to WinNT4 then to Win95 (but with the 98se kernel) and then upgrade to Whistler 2257? </sarcasm> -
I agree, for all you 9x Lamers out there, here you go, a category dedicated to you.

Also, it ran fine (little slow) on that 166, it runs smooth on my second machine (PII333@375MHz, 128MB Ram, 8.4GB Hard Drive, Voodoo3 2000 PCI)it will run fine with 64 MB ram...so....nope.....you're not right, sorry buddy, looks like the house prevails on this one.
-
OK OK OK, try to beat this: I ran win2k on a: 166MHz Pentium MMX 48MB Ram 2.1GB hard drive 14" "La Mierda" Monitor
-
ok, here you go: USE WINDOWS 2000!

Is Windows ME Realible I would like to hear form users
EddiE314 replied to hotrod1629's topic in Legacy OS
as with 4&20, i hardly use WinME, i boot over to it from time to time but i just can't keep myself away from Win2k, all of you win2k users will understand. As for stability, I find it alot more stable than win98 and win98se, but whats the use.. Whistler Persona will be out before too much longer and there will be no more Win9x -
just go to win2k now, don't waste your time playing with dual monitors in NT4WS
-
Ok, started running Win98, it ran good..few crashes....Started running Win98se, had even more crashes! but i did like ICS, now if I run a 9x OS, i go with WinME (3000.2), becuase i've only had it crash once and i love the system restore, if i were you, i would just hold off until the release of Whistler Personal.(BTW all installs of Windows are clean installs)

I'll have to go with Norton2k, never had a single prob with it
