yes but the MTBF (mean time between failures) is not accurate, i mean, i think the mtbf of alot of HDD's is like 52 yrs. now you and i both know that they didn't test them for 52yrs, so they take 1000's of them and run them for weeks/monthes or whatever and then estimate and crap. with that said, you really don't know when your hdd's gonna fail, could be today, tomorrow, or in 52yrs(i hope not 52yrs). Personally i don't turn my comp. off or let the hdd's spin down for that matter, think for a second, it puts alot more stress on the hdd to start up the spinning of the platters than it does to keep them spinning. thats my opinion anyway.

i agree, i also like the beos boot menu, but win2k and winNT4 have a problem with not being the boot menu, don't ask me why, thats why i said install win2k last and then add beos manually, back in the day i used to dual boot win98 and beos4, thats when i used the beos boot menu. what are you talking about?! this post is about DirectX, not BFS partitions or BeOS. And no, you cannot get DX8 without being a beta tester unless it is leaked out.

well, if you do reformat, don't partition the drive at all, just havw win2k and win98se both on the same fat32 drive, that way you can install the same program under both OS's, to do that you have to install it under both and to the same location under both.

It was free so i couldn't complain, i also got an Intel Pentium 166 MMX for it, i know the mobo can support it and then some because i got a 430fx and it goes up to 200MHz and it was made in like 95 and this one was made in 96, here's more specs for it AT 2 IDE 1 FDC 4 72pin DIMM slots 1 168pin DIMM slot 4 PCI slots 3 ISA slots 1 SSM slot This is what reads on the chipset chip: PCIset SB82437VX L6293745

use the win98 boot disk and boot to dos, install win98 like you would if you just formatted, win2k will see that theres another OS and add win98 accordingly

horsesh1t, put zonealarm on both comps, thats what i do and it works fine, don't just put it on the Gateway. Put it on both

sorry Rocko, that won't work, try installing BeOS 4.5 first, winme or whatever second, and then install Win2k last, win2k like to be the boot manager but it will not see the BeOS OS, you can manually edit the BOOT.INI and tell it where the BeOS partition is, but i haven't tried that yet, i just use a boot disk. BTW, i don't know if you can install beos5pe in a BFS partition of its own, thats why i said use 4.5 and not 5pe.

you think thats bad???!?! my Phoebe 56k v90 died and now i am using some Rockwell chipset 28.8 connecting at 38.4kbps, i doubt thats the real speed i am getting though, know any good Hardware modems that work in win2k? Yea, dial-up does suck, especially for you, downgrading from ADSL to 56k has to hurt.

keyboard + mouse combo is the way to go, i can't see myself playing q3a with anything else, even now when i go back and play GLQuake, i have to open the console and type: "+mlook", same goes for QuakeII.
