  1. Ok, i went to the site that was listed on the drive itself: www.dvs.co.kr I downloaded drivers for it: 520ha17.zip its contents are as follows: Files: AA17DVD.MOT BA17DVD.MOT readme.kor readme.txt UPGRADE.EXE The README file reads: ----------------------------- DSR-520H Firmware Upgrade ----------------------------- You can get better performance of the DSR-520H DVD-ROM drive with the new and higher version firmware. * CAUTION Please do not use this firmware for other DVD-ROM drives. 1. Before Upgrade Firmware (1) What you need. (files) Down program file : UPGRADE.EXE firmware file : AAxxDVD.MOT for A Hardware : BAxxDVD.MOT for B gardware 'xx' is firmware version. (2) What you need to know. Down program (UPGRADE.EXE) reads the firmware file and download to the flash memory of the DVD-ROM drive. This Down program does not work with Windows 95/98. You need to boot your PC with 'Command Prompt Only mode' of Windows 95/98 or 'DOS'. 2. Firmware Upgrade Procedure (1) Boot your PC with 'DOS' or 'Command Prompt Only mode' (2) Using 'cd' command, go to the directory which the 'UPGRADE.EXE' and 'AAxxDVD.MOT' and 'BAxxDVD.MOT' files are in. (4) After firmware upgrade finished, please reset your PC. -END OF FILE- ----------------------- The thing is, UPGRADE.EXE crashes, and it didn't come with a frickin .inf file like i expected. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I did what you said but it said: "The medium is not compatible with device or media pool." Its like the DVD drive isn't even a DVD drive. Windows 2000 only sees it as a standard CD ROM, its pissing me off. I can't find drivers for it anywhere. I am going to pull the dvd drive and get the FCC ID and anything that might help and i'll put it up here. [This message has been edited by EddiE314 (edited 05 February 2000).]

    Input Buffer Length?

Changes the size of the input buffer that stores information about your mouse location. You should increase this number if your mouse behaves erratically.

HOW BIG SHOULD THE SWAP FILE BE ??

Look BigB, no damned salesman told me to buy a dual socket 370 mobo, nor did he tell me to buy two 400mhz celerons, nor did he tell me to get 256mb of ram, i built it cause i could, i think your little pansy ass is jealous of all of the high end people, if you want one too then go out and bust your ass like the rest of us....or does mommy and daddy still support you? -------------------------------- As for all of the people out there who think that it would be great to use ram for a swapfile......LEARN A THING OR TWO ABOUT A FRICKIN COMPUTER......yes ram is fast, but say you have 384MB ram, and you make a 128MB ramdisk, and try to put a swapfile on it, thats using up 128Mb of your ram that could be used by the computer. the ram going to be used anyway by the computer anyway as cache, which would be faster than making a stupd RAMdisk and making it a swap file. ..Ok, by reading these worthless.."I wanna make my ram my swap file"...posts, i think my IQ just dropped 20 points and I can't remember how to be nice anymore, especially after ByronT had a Stroke because some people can't get it through their melons. P.s. No offense to anyone....but some of you must be have serious problems. Have a nice Day. and smile [This message has been edited by EddiE314 (edited 04 February 2000).]

Whats the best Video Card for gaming in Win2k

Personally for the best bang for the buck I would get a 3Dfx voodoo3 2000 agp or pci, you can't beat the performance for $100

    Future of Win2k?

maybe so Beavis, but i claim everything as mine, so Windows is MINE, Linux is MINE, THE WORLD IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!! MUUHAHA!!!! ....No Mini-Me, we do not gnaw on our kit-ty. Oh, Seldzar, is it possible to install Win98 on a FAT32 partitioned Windows 2000 machine? And if so how do i go about doing it? I have one 8GB FAT32 partition in which Win2K resides.
  16. My Creative 5x DVD works ok, but i have this other one that came with the Creative Inlay Card, Voodoo Banshee, and this unknown: DVS DVD-ROM DSR-520H dvd rom. Its a great dvd and all but i'd like to be able to find support for it.

Intellipont 3.1 dicked up my system

Hmmm....."Dicked up your system" huh? quite a choice in words. Just uninstall Intellipoint 3.1, its not that vital to your performance that you need it, i have an Intellimouse Explorer Pro and i don't have intellipoint installed.
  19. This is what I have come to undertand and is my opinion on the future of Operating systems, Feel free to leave your comments and opinions. Windows 2000 (NT5) is just the next generation OS after Windows NT 4, not Windows 98. The next generation for Windows 98 is Windows ME (Millennium Edition) and thats the "Now" official name for it. I have Windows 2000 Pro on dual boot with Windows ME beta 2. I have not seen one crash or Illegal Operation in Win2K at all, thats because its based strongly on the NT Kernel, Windows ME on the other hand crashes as much if not more than Windows 95, 98, and 98 SE. I'm not one to try to judge a beta Operating system like Win ME, but I'm going to. Why stick the novice user with an operating system that crashes all the time? Being a Certified computer technician, I get lots of calls at work from customers asking: "What does this error mean...Illegal Oper..." You know what? I don't even see why Microsoft is even going with Windows ME. Windows 2000 may be a little more difficult to use but I'll trade that for a stable OS any day. To anyone out there who is even debating the idea of going with Windows 2K or Windows ME, seriously man, go with 2000, its going to save you alot of hassle in the future, even if you have to pay three times the amount it costs for Windows ME.

Your Opinions of Future Windows OS's

Hey SHS, i got the same RealTek 8029 10baseT card, it rocks, i got one in my dual boot Win2k/WinME system, and one in my Win98SE machine.

    Win2k w tnt2 ultra

Try turning your refresh rate down, if that doesn't work, try using the 3.69 drivers, i have had more luck with them with my TNT1
  22. EddiE314

Your Opinions of Future Windows OS's

MS is releasing Windows ME because it is the predecessor to Windows 98 se, alot of people will buy it because of the low price it will probably have.

    Future of Win2k?

I didn't mean that Whistler sucks, I meant not to put any faith into it until its out. Windows isn't their operating system, its OUR operating system, that gives us the right to judge it and submit our opinions about it. Most consumers use the 9x OS's because of the low price and ease of use. Personally I already think that they are migrating people to the NT Kernel, I mean, look at NT4 vs. NT5, whats different? A HELL OF ALOT right? Right. That and its rock hard, I feel that after the release of Windows 2000, alot more people are going to be compelled to switch to Win2000, some because they are confused and think its the predecessor to Windows 98, other because they want the newly implemented ease of use in which Microsoft has incorporated into NT5. Other will buy Windows ME when it comes out, but I believe it won't be long before all of us are using the NT Kernel based Operating system. So DataCenter Server will be 64bit based? I can only imagine how much it will cost. I'm glad i'll never have to come into contact with it on a personal basis. Oh Seldzar, The "Intel Itanium" processor is 64bit right?
  24. EddiE314

    Future of Win2k?

oh..... Windows 3.x = 16bit Windows 95/98/98se = 32bit A long time ago I heard the NT5 was supposed to be 64bit, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it 32bit as well?
  25. EddiE314

    Future of Win2k?

screw Micro$oft, they just keep revamping the Windows 9x OS's just to make a profit, and you know people WILL buy WinME, don't ask me why, but they will, oh, and on WinME beta 2, IE 5.5 sucks ass.........thank you. And yes Seldzar, you DO get what you pay for...and in turn you pay for it by having to put up with Illegal Operations and BSOD's. Going the cheapest route is not always the best. Also, i wouldn't put too much faith into Windows Codename: Whistler.
