Just a note: Windows 2000 (NT5) is just the next generation OS after Winodows NT 4, not Windows 98. The next generation for Windows 98 is Windows ME (Millennium Edition) and thats the "Now" official name for it. I have Windows 2000 Pro on dual boot with Windows ME beta 2. I have not seen one crash or Illegal Operation in Win2K at all, thats because its based strongly on the NT Kernel, Windows ME on the other hand crashes as much if not more than Windows 95, 98, and 98 SE. I'm not one to try to judge a beta Operating system like Win ME, but I'm going to. Why stick the novice user with an operating system that crashes all the time? Being a Certified computer technician, I get lots of calls at work from customers asking: "What does this error mean...Illegal Oper..." You know what? I don't even see why Microsoft is even going with Windows ME. Windows 2000 may be a little more difficult to use but I'll trade that for a stable OS any day. To anyone out there who is even debating the idea of going with Windows 2K or Windows ME, seriously man, go with 2000, its going to save you alot of hassle in the future, even if you have to pay three times the amount it costs for Windows ME.

This is the response i got to an e-mail i sent, i thought it might help some people. ---------- Eddie, Windows 2000 is a beta operating system, we do not support beta operating systems so there are no beta drivers available and I would not expect to see any drivers for Windows 2000 from Creative Labs until it is released as a retail product. The RTM versions of Windows 2000 is only available before February 17 (release subject to Microsoft's schedule) on OEM computer systems and Microsoft Network members. We will support it as soon as it is available to the general public as a standalone retail product. Until that time, we will still consider it a beta operating system and drivers are not available at this time. Here's what I wrote back to Creative: At 10:51 PM 1/31/00 -0500, you wrote: >Ok, answer me this, why are there no Windows NT4 drivers for the PC DVD >Inlay card model number CT7160? It's not a beta OS. > >-Eddie Eddie, The inlay card has never supported NT. I do not know the reasons for this but it was a decision made by marketing or the developers. -------------- Hmmmm.......Now that really burns my ass.
-
Umm, why are you using Windows 2000 again??
-
it's only displayed for a second or two, why go through the hassle?
-
Oh, CKNYC, if you want to e-mail Mike at Creative instead of filling out that painful form that asks questions that have nothing to do with your problem, here's his e-mail there: msmith@clok.creaf.com

the difference is irrelevant, don't ask and don't tell. I believe someone else here at the forum said that also. -
yea, that was low, now suffer with incompatibilities like the rest of us.
-
What burns my ass about it is the fact that I have a PC DVD Inlay card and they don't even have NT4 drivers for it..uhh...its not beta, at least with NT4 drivers i would have something to try that might have a chance of working....
-
By gold version you mean Build 2195? Just try to download the Windows NT4 drivers for the MS Sidewinder if there are any, they sometimes work.

Win2k + UT + GeForce DDR + Det 3.77 ---> CRASH !!!!
EddiE314 replied to X-Stream's topic in Hardware
dunno, just use older drivers. Yup, there's another person to add to the infinite list of people who have problem after problem with the frickin Nvidia cards, You know, i'm not trying to be mean but if you have soooooooooooo many problems with Windows 2000, downgrade to NT4 or Win98. NTCompatible needs to have another Category just for people with Detonator Driver problems under windows 2000. May i be the moderator? -
Keep in mind you're Usining a beta version of windows NT 5 (2000) and it won't be out to the public til' Feb 17th, also why do you have a modem on com3? yea, i got a way to fix it, don't try to cram so much sh*t onto your computer's com ports and you should be fine, win98 was crap anyway, 6+ reboots a day
-
thats for a Dxr2 decoder card, he said he has an Inlay card (CT7160) and thats what mine is, that site say...: This package works ONLY with the PC-DVD Encore and PC-DVD Encore 5x kits with a Dxr2 Decoder, and the PC-DVD RAM drive with a Dxr2 Decoder card. This file does not support the Dxr3 Decoder. .....it doesn't say anything about the PC DVD Inlay decoder.

screw flashing the BIOS right now, he'd be better off trying to put it on another com port, and if he still can't get it to work, as a last resort.....CAREFULLY flash your BIOS.

The creator of Bleem! said himself that Bleem didn't like the GeForce card. I saw that on ZDTV. But Bleem won't work under Win2K at all, i have already tried [This message has been edited by EddiE314 (edited 31 January 2000).]

In my 2 monthes of using Win2k, i have not had one Illegal operation, i don't even think they exist, therefore i have no reason to use N.U. I was just stating my opinion.
