Ha, first post in years, shout outs to DosFreak, SHS, Philipp, Clutch, Brian Frank, and everyone else. Nice to see NTC is still up and running.
-
felix: tin-foil hats aren't a bad thing. lol

oh god, it seems NTC's been taken over by kiddies waiting to start a flame war. thanks but no thanks. in response to Wicked101's question reguarding the gmail invites, i like to get rid of them for the same reason people climb mountains, cause they are there, out of all honesty i'd much rather google send me a frickin tshirt or something useful rather than bundle after bundle of invitations, considering that people are emailing and requesting like hotcakes...apparently some think they are still "exclusive" as Malaris has stated. Although i wasn't aware gmail was a status symbol...then OR now. so if you don't want a gmail invite, don't f.uckin reply, its a waste of space. ATTN mods: might as well lock and close this thread, i can see where its going.
-
who hasn't had one forever, but the fact remains, i got 50 and need to get rid of them, so if you got a sibling, or a spouse...family member or pet that wants one, send me an email and i'll hook anyone up.
-
same here, i just got another 50, email me at eddie314@gmail.com, first come first serve.

Linux is great, Gentoo's Portage system based off of FreeBSD's ports system makes the whole thing easier than any other linux i have tried, i originally installed it on a celeron 500, 256mb pc66, and 8.4gb hdd system, to my surprise, kde 3.1.4 (most recent at the time)ran very smooth with all the pretty gui effects, even better than it ran with winxp. sound is a problem sometimes, the best all around card i can suggest is a type of sound blaster live card, the kernel drivers (oss) work great with it, ALSA works great too with 2.6 but some games and apps had problems with the ARTS+ALSA combination. For video cards i'd say use an ATI Radeon 8500 or higher or any NVidia card, dialup modems are a joke and i have only been able to get the crappy pctel winmodems to work (figures since they worked like crap in windows). the 2.6 kernel is, IMHO, way better in terms of drivers and support than the 2.4 series, the 2.6 kernel even comes with support for a modded xbox usb controller and various usb lcds. laptop support is much better as it now supports better power management options and features. give linux a shot, you won't regret it, the command line is easy after you learn a few basic commands and filesystem structure, i actually tend to rely on the command line more than the gui, why click 20 or so times when i can type two commands to do the same thing.

hey hey hey, whats with the linux bashing people, i have never had a problem with linux, Clutch suggested i try Gentoo-Linux a while back, been using it ever since with no probs, i finally gave up on windows for the most part, i still keep a box running for a few games that i can't play in linux well or at all. i find it much more simple to use than windows, the first month was the crucial time when i was going insane, but i can do just about anything windows can do, except play a few games of my liking. Try switching to Linux for a month or two, try Gentoo-Linux, you might find that you like it more than windows.

having problems with a ps/2 version of a microsoft intellimouse (ball), no matter what type of mouse i install it as it still acts wierd. here's the story... everytime i restart the computer, i get back to the logon screen and the mouse goes ape-shit, i unplug it and plug it back in, it works fine....well, almost...the scroll wheel doesn't. but i hate having to constantly unplug/replug it due to wear and tear on the ps/2 port. thanks in advance. Running Redhat Linux 8.0, Kernel 2.4.18-14, KDE 3 on an i686 P.S. fonts look like sh1t in mozilla, if my spelling sucks, blame it on sh1tty fonts.

I'm with Clutch here i use Firebird, oh, btw Clutch, i switched to Gentoo, now my main os. thanks for suggesting it awhile back.

go for it, cavalier is a great car and will last for a long time if you don't run the p1ss out of it like the little "fast and the furious" kids that live near me.

If Operating Systems were beer DOS Beer: Requires you to use your own can opener, and requires you to read the directions carefully before opening the can. Originally only came in an 8-oz. can, but now comes in a 16-oz. can. However, the can is divided into 8 compartments of 2 oz. each, which have to be accessed separately. Soon to be discontinued, although a lot of people are going to keep drinking it after it's no longer available. Mac Beer: At first, came only a 16-oz. can, but now comes in a 32-oz. can. Considered by many to be a "light" beer. All the cans look identical. When you take one from the fridge, it opens itself. The ingredients list is not on the can. If you call to ask about the ingredients, you are told that "you don't need to know." A notice on the side reminds you to drag your empties to the trashcan. Windows 3.1 Beer: The world's most popular. Comes in a 16-oz. can that looks a lot like Mac Beer's. Requires that you already own a DOS Beer. Claims that it allows you to drink several DOS Beers simultaneously, but in reality you can only drink a few of them, very slowly, especially slowly if you are drinking the Windows Beer at the same time. Sometimes, for apparently no reason, a can of Windows Beer will explode when you open it. OS/2 Beer: Comes in a 32-oz can. Does allow you to drink several DOS Beers simultaneously. Allows you to drink Windows 3.1 Beer simultaneously too, but somewhat slower. Advertises that its cans won't explode when you open them, even if you shake them up. You never really see anyone drinking OS/2 Beer, but the manufacturer (International Beer Manufacturing) claims that 9 million six-packs have been sold. Windows 95 Beer: You can't buy it yet, but a lot of people have taste-tested it and claim it's wonderful. The can looks a lot like Mac Beer's can, but tastes more like Windows 3.1 Beer. It comes in 32-oz. cans, but when you look inside, the cans only have 16 oz. of beer in them. Most people will probably keep drinking Windows 3.1 Beer until their friends try Windows 95 Beer and say they like it. The ingredients list, when you look at the small print, has some of the same ingredients that come in DOS beer, even though the manufacturer claims that this is an entirely new brew. Windows NT Beer: Comes in 32-oz. cans, but you can only buy it by the truckload. This causes most people to have to go out and buy bigger refrigerators. The can looks just like Windows 3.1 Beer's, but the company promises to change the can to look just like Windows 95 Beer's - after Windows 95 beer starts shipping. Touted as an "industrial strength" beer, and suggested only for use in bars. Unix Beer: Comes in several different brands, in cans ranging from 8 oz. to 64 oz. Drinkers of Unix Beer display fierce brand loyalty, even though they claim that all the different brands taste almost identical. Sometimes the pop-tops break off when you try to open them, so you have to have your own can opener around for those occasions, in which case you either need a complete set of instructions, or a friend who has been drinking Unix Beer for several years. AmigaDOS Beer: The company has gone out of business, but their recipe has been picked up by some weird German company, so now this beer will be an import. This beer never really sold very well because the original manufacturer didn't understand marketing. Like Unix Beer, AmigaDOS Beer fans are an extremely loyal and loud group. It originally came in a 16-oz. can, but now comes in 32-oz. cans too. When this can was originally introduced, it appeared flashy and colorful, but the design hasn't changed much over the years, so it appears dated now. Critics of this beer claim that it is only meant for watching TV anyway. VMS Beer: Requires minimal user interaction, except for popping the top and sipping. However cans have been known on occasion to explode, or contain extremely un-beer-like contents. Best drunk in high pressure development environments. When you call the manufacturer for the list of ingredients, you're told that is proprietary and referred to an unknown listing in the manuals published by the FDA. Rumors are that this was once listed in the Physicians' Desk Reference as a tranquilizer, but no one can claim to have actually seen it.

max # of players is 32, not that we'll ever get that many, i can pull at times about 1mbps downstream, at least 500kbps down average, and about 300kbps upstream max, these are just estimates though
