  1. Any idea how to restore programs that sit in the tray (such as mIRC, as I have it configured) to restore or reappear after explorer crashes? I hate having to kill the app and restart it...and there is got to be a way to restore the app...

    Wheel of Time problems...

I'm running an Intel PIII-800 with a TNT2 and I've had no problems running the game fully patched. Without patches, I'm not so sure, but I've had no problems otherwise. I have heard of some CD-ROM drives having issues with the Safedisk protection, so the no-cd patches at gamecopyworld.com or megagames.com might be of some help.

    RC2 Upgrade from RC1

I've upgraded from Beta 2 to RC1 and then to RC2, and have no problems doing so. Absolutely none. It's amazing. Granted, I had a clean install with Beta 2, and since RC1 and RC2 are merely building on the previous builds and not really changing a whole lot with the system, I'm not too surprised. And I must say that I like RC2. It fixed a few annoying bugs that I've had from 2k, Beta 2, and RC1...such as the dissappearing network icon in the tray. I have two NICs, and after a few hours of use, one of the icons would dissappear until the next reboot. Not really crucial, but annoying. Yeah, go ahead and upgrade. Seems to run a bit smoother than the previous versions--if that's possible.

    Max Payne and XP

I'm running it on WinXP RC1 and a Geforce2--but with the 14.20 detonators instead of the default XP and the 12.40 NVidia drivers. Other than the sound glitch i had before, I've had no problems.

    Max Payne and XP

If anything, keep the drivers that come with XP or windowsupdate if you have a Soundblaster Live!. I tried to install some of the 2k drivers (LW3) and the drivers that come with the 5.1 cards--and the game would not run--at least with sound. If I turned off the sound it would run.

    designs for beta2?

Where can we get windowblinds xp? I've looked around for it, but drawn blanks everywhere... Thanx.

    Wmp 8

Well, I thought WMP8 couldn't be any better than WMP7, but it is. The full screen bit is a bit more involved, adds all kinds of little trinkets. It also seems to run a bit better, but it gets confused with some DiVX codecs, but other than that, it is much better than 7.

    Whistler-Still no CDRWs,no IPX/SPX

Its under NWLINK IPX/SPX. It installs automatically if you install the Novell Client, and I believe you can install it on its own. It also has NETBIOS integrated into it.

    Theme

Is there any way to jus create the theme for XP without all the WindowBlinds mumbo-jumbo? It has its own program built in for making the themes work, and its much more encompassing than WindowBlinds. There's gotta be a way to make themes for XP....

    Logon scripts, mapping drives

I'm setting up a windows 2000 test network to replace our current Novell network, and I need to come up with login scripts that will map a series of drives. They have to work across all Windows versions (95,98,ME,NT,2k)--and so far I've had no luck. I've only gotten the home path to map correctly on NT/2k machines, which is annoying because there are alot of 95/98/ME machines still in use. If anybody has any suggestions, feel free to send them along.
  11. Does anybody know of some good software that we could set up on our domain to allow users to login, get their homedrive files from anywhere in the world? We've decided to look into this field and I was wondering if anybody here had or has something that they feel works well.

    Restoring apps after explorer crash...

What I'm talking about is apps that you are using, such as the popular IRC client, mIRC, which I have minimize to the tray rather than the taskbar. Explorer occasionally crashes, and I'd like to restore them, but there is no way to. That is what I'm talking about...I dont want to log off 'cause that'll close the app, and I dont want to end task and restart...what if i have open conversations or something? I know there has to be a way to do it.

    What is a Cisco router?

To sum it up: Cisco routers are what make the internet work. Most other routers...well, they just pretend to. I currently am working in a lab here at my college where we have 10 of these routers, for our networking class. It's sorta a test venture by Cisco, and I think it's awesome. I've done some work with them, and they rock. Easy to setup, and they just plain rock. Hope this clears up some confusion.
  19. Has anybody tried upgrading? I'm kinda wondering because I was thinking of giving it a try and I'd like to know if there was any major problems...There is some stuff in the readme1st.txt for whistler, but I was wondering if anybody here had any suggestions for me.

anyone try Nvidia 7.17 drivers ?

Oh, in addition to that previous post, I'm running Windows 2000 SP 1.

anyone try Nvidia 7.17 drivers ?

I have DX 8 installed, and the 7.17 drivers, and when I play CS, I get mottled green/blue guns and player models, same in any other Halflife mod. Also, when I try to go into the color config in display properties, it bluescreens my computer. Any ideas? 3com NICs

I've been trying to install my 3com 509b in Whistler Beta 1...and I've had no luck doing so. Apparently, there are no 3com drivers in the database. Any idea as to what is going on? ------------------

Upgrading from Win2k Pro to Whister Beta 1 Pro

Umm....dont upgrade. It really screwed up my system (fatally ended install before I got to the first screen) and I had to re-install everything. As with every other MS product, this one can't upgrade worth crap either.

    Whistler

Sounds like good news...I'm downloading it right now off the MSDN site, and hopefully I'll have as much luck as you did.
  25. Last night I tried to install the new Detonator 3 Drivers, and when I rebooted, I was using my VGA driver. How nice. When I manually tried to install them, it told me it could not find a file. I'm totally at a loss. When I tried to install the old ones, it gave the sam error. I'm currently using the stock drivers, but they suck. When I checked my event log, it gave me his error: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0." I got that 5 times, then got this message: "A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0." then followed by the first one. Any ideas as to what is going on?? Thanx.
