In internet options, on the connections tab, click the lan settings button. There is a checkbox there for "Bypass proxy server for local addresses". That should fix you right up...

Take a look at the "Local Security Policy" section of the administrative tools in the control panel. In the user rights assignment section, you can add users to the "deny logon locally" policy. This will let them access your shares, but not log on directly to the machine. The way I did it on mine was to make a new user group called "Network Clients", and put that group in the "deny logon locally". Then, when I make a new user, I can just make them a member of that group (and only that group - remove them from the main users group) and the policy will apply to them automatically.

If I had to venture a guess.... A 32-bit unsigned integer can have values from 0 to 4,294,967,295. That would be sufficient for describing your processor. But a 32-bit signed integer has values from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647. For that, your processor speed in Hz is too big. Therefore, your speed would "roll over" into a negative number. And a negative number will always be less than any processor requirement. So unfortunately, it appears you're not even gonna be able to play games that would run on an 8MHz calculator! This is definitely an AMD conspiracy - now we know the REAL reason why they haven't broken that 2GHz threshold...

Pu another way, that's 40% more for twice the bandwidth, so it may not be a bad deal. But if you are happy with what you've got now, why pay more for bandwidth you don't need?

If you have access to the routers and such, you can get a lot of information using utilities like MRTG. Then, depending on the capabilities of the devices, you can get graphs of throughput, CPU usage, and any other information that can be obtained via SNMP. I don't think you can look at specific IP's, but it lets you look at the amount of traffic through an interface. For example, our ATM has a separate interface for every DSL user, and reports them individually, so we can monitor every user's activity. High-end switches can report the traffic through the individual ports to MRTG, so you may also be able to isolate your individual user's traffic that way. While very powerful, there is a lot to learn here, so be prepared to spend a lot of time getting the results you want...

XP Pop-ups on taskbar, turning them off

Xteq X-Setup can disable these things... -
If you are new to WinXP, you should check out the FAQ. The answer to your problem is here.

From an explorer window, go to Tools -> Folder Options. Go to the View tab, and near the bottom you'll see "Use simple file sharing". Uncheck that. I have only used XP Pro, so I don't know for sure that the option will be there in XP Home. If not, you're probably out of luck...

Quote: It uses a binary search method that can find basically any file in 7 tries max. Huh? I'm not sure I follow your logic here... the only way a binary search could have a MAX of seven attempts would be if there were no more than 128 (=2^7) objects to look through...

yo yo yo , how much u think a computer case weights? + 17'
CUViper replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
Well, the monitor alone will probably be 40-50 pounds (~20kg), and a steel case is probably around 20 pounds (~9kg). An aluminum case would of course weigh less. The rest of the components only add a little more. So if you haven't figured it out already, it will be pretty expensive to ship... -
I would think .NET would be more like a semi truck - lots of power, but it's not meant for everyday use...

Why would you need sound on a server anyway? Unless of course you want to play games on a server OS ;(

Quote: Maybe they can sell these to the same people that buy "premium" speaker wire and audio CD rim weights. "premium" speaker wires do actually have higher quality materials (better dielectrics, shielding, etc.), but with the way EM transmission goes, the audible difference is pretty small (only a few dB I think)

How can I have the hiberfil moved to a diff drive?
CUViper replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Don't know about the first, but here's the second: open Folder Options (in the Control Panel), go to the View tab, and at the very end of the list is "Use simple file sharing"... -
Oops, I didn't realize until after I hit submit that this thread is over 18 months old! But the fix I stated above is still relevent. As to your problems, t}{echo, make sure first that you didn't delete gimme.dll. If you did, then reinstall NFS and follow my instructions above. Also, do you have all of the necessary protocols installed? It's been a while since I played, but I think LAN play requires IPX. But I think you can also choose internet or tcp/ip and just enter a local IP address for the server.

Quote: Very strange indeed .. I tried the above theory several times without fail (er .. with fail). Now, the only dif I could work out between his setup and mine is his gimme.dll had to be deleted for NFS5 to run, mine did not ... his crashes .. mine does not. Deleting gimme.dll is what causes the problems with multiplayer (and other things too, like missing pictures in your profile). However, you can make it work without deleting that file! If you haven't already, download the Application COmpatibility Toolkit (ACT). Run QFixApp, and select the porsche.exe file. Now use the clear button to uncheck all the fixes, and then select EmulateHeap. Now the game will work perfectly! To make these changes permanent, click the button to make an sdb file. Then go to C:\Winnt\AppPatch (or wherever windows is installed) and double-click your sdb file to install it on your computer. If you want, you can save that file and use it on other computers as well.

I'm not sure how you would do this with a novell server, but if you make a Win2k domain, it is easy. Got to Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options. There you'll see the setting "Interactive logon: Require Domain Controller authentication to unlock workstation", which you would want to enable. Another setting of interest is "Interactive logon: Number of previous logons to cache (in case domain controller is not available)", which you would set to zero. Look around at other stuff in there as well, because that's where you'll find a lot of the things you were able to do with poledit.
