So only the main PC needs access to the dial-up connection? One easy way to see where you are being routed is to activate the option on the LAN for "show icon in notification when connected". Then when you dial up and start browsing, you will be able to see which connection lights up with activity. AFAIK, Windows will always use the dial-up networking connection if it is active, regardless of the presense of a LAN... but again, the lights should tell you what is going on.

It depends on how the cable is hooked up as well.... let me know if you still have problems...

What did you use to try to compile it? Your best bet is probably going to be Cygwin... Once you compile it in cygwin, you can run it anywhere (w/o the cygwin shell) by putting the cygwin dll with the executable. BTW, for those interested, the correct link is www.ntop.org...

Why on Earth would you use dialup when you have cable?!? Anyway, just make sure that ICS is only enabled for the dialup connection, not the cable. ICS can only be enabled for one connection at a time, so just switch it manually.

Remote Networking: Nothing under Network Places? HELP!
CUViper replied to Lotus's topic in Networking
"ping -?" will give you the breakdown of all the switches (this works for most shell commands). For basic use, just type "ping hostname" -
Just for curiosity's sake, I would like to see the general "age" of the active users on this board - I have broken it down into 6-month ranges, so just vote for the period when you first registered here...

Looking at the dates, it seems like Win2k was the major factor that made this site popular... there is a big jump in users when Win2k was released, but WinXP apparantly has not had a similar effect. Sure a lot of us migrated, myself included, but it doesn't look like we've been getting many new users due to XP.

they were comparing their best to AMD's best... just like now we're seeing P4 2.4 GHz vs Athlon 2100+

Yeah, it's incredible how much you can keep learning, even when it seems like you already know so much....

And I'm a month older than you....

beat you to it.... <link> Doesn't hurt to mention it again though... it is indeed a great site!

Anyone know where I can get some internet statistics?
CUViper replied to HawkBoy's topic in Slack Space
You can find some good client stats here: http://www.thecounter.com/stats/ As for stats on servers, like what browsers are targeted by designers, I couldn't find anything... -
Try Startup Control Panel...

The services that run on a machine have nothing to do with the user accounts... services run all the time, even when no user is logged in.

Grr... double post I responded to your other post here...

10 Mbps = 10,000,000 bits per second 100 Mbps = 100,000,000 bits per second 1 MB = 2^20 bytes = 2^23 bits = 8,388,608 bits So, with some simple math: 10 Mbps = 1.192 MB per second 100 Mbps = 11.92 MB per second BTW, you should notice that "Mega" means 10^6 when you're talking about throughput (Mbps), but it means 2^20 when you're talking about storage (MB).

"-->" = "-->" - I think he was trying to be sneaky by using the HTML code for ">", and the board one-upped him and used the HTML code for the "&".... In the compatibility toolkit there is a utility called qfixapp... to use it you need to select the program you're trying to run, the check the box for the appropriate fix (given by the dll names above)

tsonta101: you can't just put the filename from your computer in the address to show it to us (what a security headache THAT would be!) You have to put it on a web server in order to link to it.

Well the links in this forum are all set to open in a new window, and I have see where IE has trouble doing this if there is a hung process. You could try killing all instances of IEXPLORE.EXE from the task manager, or just reboot to give it a fresh start.

Changing the Windows default theme on startup in Win2k
CUViper replied to pmistry's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I don't know any way to apply a theme directly, but you can change the individual colors manually here: "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors". There is a scheme entry under "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Current", but I don't know if that will override the values in "Colors"... -
Please do not double-post.... I have replied to your other thread here...

explorer.exe taking up 20% CPU..

Have you updated all of your drivers - especially the via 4-in-1's? Let us know what drivers you are using for everything, and we can take a closer look... -
There is no way to change the drive letter of a system drive without reinstalling - there are just too many things that would be broken by this change. If you do decide to reinstall, check here for a few tips I posted on this...
-
The only way to change the system drive letter is to reinstall. Here's the method I used to get my drive letters straight when creating partitions on install. Start the install.... when it asks you for the drive to install to, create your system partition by hitting "c". Don't just choose the empty space, as we don't want to start the install yet. Now reboot the computer and start the setup over. It should now have the partitions lettered correctly, and you can do your installation. I only had to do this once, so I can't remember if there was anything else I did, but it ended up the right way for me...

Home of the Underdogs is now at a new URL: http://www.the-underdogs.org/ (was http://www.theunderdogs.org/). Apparantly the domain accidently expired, and a cyber-squatter picked it up. The old URL now goes to some search engine. Just thought I'd let everyone know, because I had to do some searching on Usenet to find out what had happened...
