true, but I think that conversation was before tgtsoft made that release...

What specific games are you having trouble with? Maybe I can try it out on my own system so we can track this down...

People always say that dsl isn't shared, but that's a little misleading. DSL gets you a dedicated line to the ISP, true, but once you're there, your traffic gets lumped in with everyone else. So if they don't have enough outgoing bandwidth, you're gonna feel the bottleneck. I would recommend you just compare prices, and try to find out the experiences of other people in your area. www.dslreports.com is a good place to look for user reports on various isp's. Also, see if you can get AT&T to tell you what the speed of their cable is. I have AT&T Broadband, and they limit me to 1.5mbps/128kbps. And for just about every test I've tried, I get almost exactly that speed, so for me it doesn't appear to be overburdened. This is in Boulder, CO, so it may be different in your area.

My guess is that some program in the background is stealing focus momentarily - try disabling all other apps and see if the problems persists....

Quote: I'd be thrilled if the OS X did make the port to the x86, but only time will tell. This is happening, indirectly. Check out GNU-Darwin. Darwin the basically the core of OSX, and this is an attempt to make it a more general OS, including a port to x86. I haven't tried it yet, as I don't want to risk a dual-boot screwing up (it is only beta, after all), and I have heard it won't run under VMWare.

Quote: There used to be many comparisons between Apple and PC performance when Photoshop was the benchmark. I did find a fairly recent comparison on TechTV.... and in their tests the P4 killed the G4 (in general).

You can do this through a proxy... basically your connection would look to them like it was coming from the proxy server. Problem is, you'll have to find an open proxy that is on the network you want to "emulate"...

Quote: They just now are releasing GHZ cpu's for thier high machines. You're comparing oranges to apples here (no pun intended)... The processors on an Apple are a completely different architecture than the x86 platform, and cannot be compared on a clock-for-clock basis. This is much like you can't directly compare clocks of a P4 to an Athlon, but the difference here is much more drastic. Ars Technica has some good cpu articles if you are interested in the difference between types of processors.

I know what you mean, but if you print it, it will still come out loking nice. I don't how to make Acrobat's preview work better though. If you zoom in you can see the better detail, if that helps you...

You know, it's one thing to say "hey guys, I made this cool utility to do such-and-such, email me if you're interested". This, however, sounds like an infomercial, and in my opinion does not belong on a message forum. The people on this board are here to help each other, not make money off each other. BTW, if you go to the downloads section of www.nttoolbox.com, under admin tools they have free linux-based boot disk that lets you reset the admin password.

Check out the Soapbox section of this issue of lockergnome.... it sounds just like what you're describing

If you go here http://www.dslreports.com/ip you can click the button to find your IP.

Mmmm SUN..... and people complain about Intel being expensive....

It appears this is just a rumor: Sources: AOL not bidding for Red Hat

Oh I see how it is clutch.... read the cool workaround for yourself, then make sure no one else can get to it! Aren't you being just a little selfish?

Go with either an ATI or an NVIDIA chipset, and then just get the best one you can afford. As for board manufacturers, ATI makes their own boards, and with NVIDIA boards it doesn't really matter except for the bundle that comes with it (games, etc.). Personally I prefer NVIDIA, and you can get a Geforce3 TI 200 for about $150.

Also try checking this setting: Go to Control Panel -> User Accounts. Choose "Change the way users log on or off." Check the box for "Use the Welcome Screen."

There's probably some program out there, but I don't know of one. What's weird to me though, is why doesn't your university have a waitlist? Here, if a class is full, it's puts you on the waitlist. Then if a spot opens up, the first person on the waitlist get enrolled.

Need more details here.... what do you mean by not working? Do you get an error message? Have you checked the error logs?

Well, looking at RFC #822, it would seem that the standard only requires that it is at least one character. However, I looked at our mail server at work, and it only allows 3-30 characters. So most likely it is not your provider that is making that limitation, but the mail software they are using.

Is there a way (to point middle finger to MS)and do this???
CUViper replied to enio's topic in Software
You know, it would be a nice feature if you could set up your server to be a local Windows Update server for your network. Like this server would automatically (or manually) download the updates for all the OS's as they came out, and then you could just hit this local server when you do an install. They could make it so it functioned exactly the same a MS's update server, only you access over the LAN! -
Sysinternals has a great utility called Filemon that will do exactly what you're asking for.

Can't assign an IP to default FTP site.....Must use 'All Una
CUViper replied to Klark's topic in Networking
Well, the NetBIOS names (ie 'shella') are usually associated with the first IP address on that box. If you want a name for the other IP's, you need to register the name in either a wins server or a dns server. You don't need to have multiple NIC's to get multiple IP's, by the way. You can assign many IP's to the same interface. The only time you really need more than one nic is if you are exceeding the 100mbps bandwidth 8), or if the machine is acting as a router or firewall. But if you are using it to overcome bandwidth limitations, you will need some kind of load-balancing scheme to manage it. Back to multiple IP's, you can actually run every website on a single IP if you so desire. This is nice if you have a lot of sites, so you don't have to tie up so many IP's on one web server. To do this, you set up each website to respond to a specific host header name. For example, if you set up a machine to be both 'shella' and 'shella2' with only a single IP, then one website will have a host header name of 'shella', and the other 'shella2'. Then when you try to view either website, IIS will look at the headers to sort out which site you want. Everyone feel free to correct this if I made a mistake, or add anything I missed... -
Well, following that point of view, my dad uses SMC stuff for his wireless network and he hasn't had any problems there, so you might consider SMC as a cheaper alternative to Cisco (which I agree is probably the best).
