You should just be able to just enable the built in ICS - try right clicking the connection (for the cable, not the LAN) and see if there's an option for ICS.... I have this working for my cable connection, but my 'server' is a WinXP box, so I'm not sure whether Win2k can share anything besides dial-ups...

Win2k Server -- New Hard Drive --- Do not Want to Reinstall
CUViper replied to Atreyu's topic in Hardware
Norton Ghost will do the drive image/resore with NT... I like your idea of using the mirroring though, BUT.... I think the drives have to be the same size (can anyone confirm this please?). If that's the case, you would have to partition the drives to the same size, which is probably not what you want to happen... -
for the condition, check "For all messages", and for the action choose "reply with message"...
-
Sorry if it sounded like I was flaming you HarU - I have nothing against you OR the game. I haven't even played the game, so my argument had nothing to do with my feelings for the game. I was only trying to point out that the servers are not the issue with higher resolutions, which you did of course agree with later.
-
that's a lame excuse HarU... why not just give the user the option to run at any resolution they want? Give the options for anywhere from 640x480 to 1600x1200.... then everyone is happy. Oh, and the resolution you run at has NO effect on the amount of work the servers have to do...

you can't do it explicitely, but you can brute force it. The files with all your messages are under "\Documents and Settings\josh\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E82A9E1E-71FA-4367-B030-69A6C73F0C3B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express" That ID# (in red) most likely varies from system to system, but it is always the only folder underneath identities.

you may have to update some drivers again, but only for those items that you move around. Anything that stayed put should be fine (including motherboard stuff)
-
I think of it kinda like the airbag in your car, or the smoke detectors in your home. You could probably do just fine without, and most people will never use it, but it is still a nice feature to have if something does happen. And there are absolutely no negative side effects, so why not have it around just in case?

URGENT: question about win2k install on drive with existing
CUViper replied to Dazultra2000's topic in Software
Yes, that will work just fine.... just MAKE SURE that you don't repartition the drive or format the drive during setup. You will have to leave the partitions alone, and when it asks which file system to use, choose 'leave the exising file system intact'. -
Yes, that will work for most partitions, but as I said, not for the system partition. Go ahead, try it, I dare you....
-
I don't know, but I really doubt that you could tell the difference anyway...
-
you could put the BAT file (or a link) in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup...
-
oh, and your other question, Win2k Server can address 4GB RAM...
-
Both processors MUST be the same speed for SMP. In addition, I think they also have to be the same stepping.
-
yeah, fancy animations like that lobby scene... oh wait, that was the Max Payne engine in use there - doh! Real game!
-
yes, that has been fixed.... at least, I have yet to see that happen since I upgraded to RC2...
-
I haven't tried flashing from it, but I have booted off the floppy to make sure it works.... I'm sure it would work fine for bios updates - it appears to be ripped straight from WinME
-
Here my fix, which works great! Download this file, and double click on it to load it on your system. Alternatively, here's how you can do it yourself. Open QFixApp, and choose porsche.exe as the executable. Then the ONLY fix that you need to select is 'Emulate Heap'. To make the change permanent, save the sdb file, and double click on it to add it to your database.

The new Windows version.....necessary or just more bloatware
CUViper replied to PsychoSword's topic in Software
Quote: And how can you say that XP is more stable than 2000, because if all your 2000 drivers were WHQL certified, wouldn't 2000 be just as stable as XP? Because drivers aren't the only factor determining system stability... there's a lot of behind-the-scenes OS stuff that appears to work better in XP. -
afaik, there is no way to change the drive letter of a system partition without reinstalling..... sorry!

Quote: I think the quest for the perfect OS is in vain--not to say their shouldn't be improvements to an OS--but c'mon, we're human (most of us anyway;)) and humans make mistakes. Oh come on.... of course we will never have a perfect OS, but it's certainly not in vain! In this and in all things, the quest for perfection is what allows us to improve. Imagine if the makers of the first computer had felt that way - 'wow, this is cool... but since we'll never be able to get it perfect, we might as well just stop working on making it better....' kinda ridiculous, don't you think? -
You don't specify, but I'm guessing that you have the computers connected directly, without a hub or anything... one way you could fix your problem is to put a hub between the computers. That way, even when one of the computers is off, the other will still have a valid link (to the hub). You should be able to get a hub pretty cheap online...

there's a few programs that do this.... my favorite is Trillian

All I had to do was leave Outlook 2k installed, and when I ran the Office XP setup, it uninstalled Outlook 2k for me.... then Outlook XP came up with all settings intact...

I work at an isp, and today we were logging code red probes on our servers about every 15 seconds.... pretty insane...
