Please HELP my good people... (Win 2K + ME together)
CUViper replied to FilthX's topic in Customization & Tweaking
The point Down8 was making is that you converted the first partition to NTFS, which is a no-no. For any Win9x os to work, the first partition in the system needs to be a FAT partition. If you want to fix it without re-installing, you could use partition magic to convert it back to Fat32. It would be better if you just re-installed though. -
Getting rid of IE 5.5 and restoring it back to IE 5.0, how?

did you try the Add/Remove Programs control panel? -

For example, AudioCatalyst needs aspi drivers to rip audio at high speeds in win2k, whether or not your drive is scsi.

use TweakUI

for the win9x series os's (including WinME, i think), you have to set the boot directory to the root of the drive.... so your last line should read: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\="Microsoft Windows Millenium"

try removing the gimme.dll file - it causes problems for many users -
I agree - excellent game! Have you played any of the other Infinity Engine games? BGII is my favorite, but Planescape: Torment is very cool as well...

the burn-proof lets the writer resume a burn after a buffer underrun. It's really nice, bacause you don't have to worry about making coasters, and you can still do stuff on your computer. Once I even started a game of unreal tournament in the middle of a burn, and it still finished fine!

try MusicCity - it's a private network of servers compatible with the napster software. Plus their servers are interlinked, so you see ALL the songs on their network...

If it's always that software that does it, then they've got a bug in their program. See if there's an update to the software, as they may have already discovered it. If not, try writing tech support describing the problem, and maybe tell them what i said about it too. Like I said though, it's really hard to find out where you're trying to de-reference a null-pointer, unless you've got debugging information (even then it's a pain in the *** ).

Will Win2K run faster if i put it on its own hard drive alon
CUViper replied to oldspice's topic in Hardware
circumference of a circle is 2*pi*radius, so it's precisely a linear relationship. Data that's 1 inch from the center will pass about 6.3 inches of data per revolution, while data that's 2 inches from the center will pass 12.6 inches of data over the drive heads per revolution. That's a pretty significant difference to me.... This is just mathematically though, which is pretty ideal. There will still be a difference between the inner and outer edge, but it may not be that dramatic. I can't find a benchmark that show the position on the disk though, so I can't give numbers to back it up. (HDTach will do it, but the free version doesn't work under NT/2K) -
it means that the program was trying to access memory where it's not allowed... 0x00000008 would be in the interrupt vector table, which i'm pretty sure win2k guards jealously (and for good reason). Most likely, the program tried to de-reference a null-pointer (a common programming error, which can sometimes be a real pain to track down). If this is the case, there's not really anything you can do about it.... what program is causing the error?

Hello Everybody, New member here! apk
CUViper replied to DeadCats's topic in Customization & Tweaking
hey apk, there's a small typo in your game tuning guide.... you're missing the 'r' in rnals.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.systeminternals.com - other than that, looks like a nice guide! -
you're right apk - to use setwin95.cmd, you just run "setwin95 program.exe" once, and from then on that program will think it's running under win95....

Remember, Windows 2000 is basically NT5, so it may not be a problem if the game identifies NT. You make it sound like you immediately went to apcompat, without even trying it first....

added 256 megs of ram now computer periodiclly reboots
CUViper replied to ThC 129's topic in Software
actually, with a pII 400, he's underclocking the PC133. I've got mixed RAM in my system and I have no problems at all (2*PC100 128mb, 1*PC133 128mb, Aopen ax6bc pro gold, pIII 700). Did you try that memory tester yet?
