win3k? wow, a little ahead of the times, are we? actually, i don't think you'll be able to avoid re-installing. You may be able to get away with just a refresh install on top of itself, but I still think you will run into problems with the different drive letters.

you need to use a hex editor
-
ok, but when you were using it with your pII 300 it was only running on a 66 MHz bus. If it is cheap RAM, then memory timings might be the issue. Just try increasing the memory timings (try 3-3-3) and if it doesn't work you can change it back. I bet that's the problem though, as it's happened to me before...

yes you can.... but if you had it formatted as NTFS, you will need to reformat the drive as FAT16 or FAT32
-
it's probably your ram.... you went from a CPU that runs on a 66 MHz bus to one that uses a 100 MHz bus. Make sure that you are using PC100 or PC133 RAM, and if so, try changing the memory-timing settings in the bios

actually, you may still be able to use power management functions through APM.... check the power management control panel

yes.... DosFreak gave the link to download it from microsoft...

Will Windows 98 remain the best overall gaming OS or will ME
CUViper replied to FKTOAST's topic in Games
i'm curious as to why you posted this on a site called NTCompatible, but you don't even offer win2k or whistler as a choice... -
if you really are a newbie, you might not even notice much difference between win98 and win2k, except that it will crash FAR less frequently (if at all). The differences are only apparant when you are changing hardware, installing drivers, tweaking system settings, etc. Don't try to learn it just by reading though.... wait until you have the machine, and then you can match what you read to what you see.

the CAS rating of the system ram only comes into play when overclocking the system bus.... it shouldn't have any effect if he's only overclocking the video. I would check how you've got that new HSF attached... did you maybe get superglue on the mem chips?
-
check out linksys.... most of theirs have the ports and the power on the back of the unit
-
you can't do it with win2k.... find a friend with a win9x system and type "sys a:"
-
the number of pages is determined by the number of posts, not the length of the posts.... currently it appears to be set at 15 posts per page

run regedit, find the desired key (looks like a folder) and highlight it. Then go to the Registry menu and choose 'Export Registry File..."

log in as admin and export the key for the game under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.... then log in as the power user and double-click the file to import it

come on jd, grow up, would ya? you seem to be rather easily offended... somebody should keep a count of how many times you say you're leaving, 'cause you always seem to find your way back... [This message has been edited by CUViper (edited 04 December 2000).]

it's built into win2k..... search the help files and the archives of this message board for details...
-
umm, admins? could you please turn off the astericks replacement on any word with a-s-s in it? there are plenty of non-offensive words with that combination (a-s-sume, embara-s-s, etc.)
-
start troubleshooting.... I'm ***uming that you realize that norton could be the problem, since you mentioned that you were running it. try disabling the norton stuff and see if it works better then. if it does, you've found your problem...
-
simple question.... what was the codename for win2k? I was explaining to my friends that whistler is just the codename for the next os, and they asked me what win2k's codename was, and I can't for the life of me remember it....

ALL drivers for nvidia cards are either written by nvidia or based off of the nvidia drivers.... Why are you so worried about using the drivers from nvidia?
-
i gotta agree with you there.... it's pretty annoying, especially if it's a large file.... anyone know a reg hack or something?
