Why connetix doesn't release a Windows 2000 friendly Virtual
CUViper replied to someone_nt's topic in Games
The switches we use are made by Aten Technology... you'll want to check out their MasterView KVM Switches. As far as price, they start at about $100... -
Don't use cl's drivers... go to www.nvidia.com and get the reference drivers

It sounds like your usual username and password was not a local login, but a login for the domain. You will have to log in with a local administrative account, which was set up when you installed win2k. If you can't remember this, then you may be out of luck...

make sure the two computers are configured the same as far as the network goes. Especially pay attention to things like full-duplex enabled/disabled. These are usually found in the advanced tab of the NIC. Also, you should check if the collision errors are showing up in the event log... if they are, post them here so we can have a look

if they were crossover cables, the network wouldn't work at all...
-
You could try setting the text color the same as the desktop color....

did the Worms Armageddon fix work for you? still hangs on my machine.... if you got it, please let me know how!

to release/renew ip's in Win9x, run winipcfg, make sure the correct adapter is selected, and click the button you want...
-
I don't know how to make it run as a service, but you can secure the machine when it is logged on by hitting ctrl-alt-del and choose 'lock computer'. Programs will continue to run, but you must enter the password to do anything...
-
also double check that it is not muted in the mixer.... if digital CD audio is enabled, then un-mute the digital cd in the mixer; if not, make sure that the analog cd isn't muted

for hollywood+, you should use their DVD Station software. That's what I use, and it works flawlessly...
-
for win98 users, login names are stuck with the username that they logged on to the machine with.
-
just like you would change any other name.... go to 'users and passwords' in the control panel, select the user in question (Administrator), and hit properties. Then change the user name to whatever you like.

hmmmm... try this: go to a command prompt on her computer and type this: net use \\your_ip\IPC$ If this works, then try to access your shares through explorer again. If it doesn't work, then copy the error message and paste it here for us to see. Also check the event log on both machines for anything related to networking.

I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would downplay Win2k's gaming ability just so they could sell more copies of WinME. Have you compared prices lately? The full version of Win2k costs about 50% more that the full version of WinME. Why, then, would they rather sell their cheaper product? If they were to tout Win2k as the faster and more stable OS for businesses AND homes, then they would sell more copies of Win2k, which they make more profit on....

It may be that your sys admins reconfigured the network so that you two are no longer on the same subnet try accessing the machine by ip.... i.e. if her ip is 192.168.0.1, type \\192.168.0.1\ in the address bar of explorer

My first computer was a Commodore 64..... it's sad to think that even my TI-86 is more powerful than that! I remember when I got my first hard drive... I was cruisin' on a 286 with a 20mb drive... and I doubled that using DoubleSpace!

Hey inferno.... in your system spec, you say you have 384mb ram, 393 listed. I'm willing to bet that that the "393mb listed" was really 393,216 kb ram. That's because 1mb = 1024kb, so 384mb = 384*1024 = 393,216kb. just a little fyi...

The files that it replaces with are in \winnt\system32\dllcache. So if you want to change notepad, first replace the file in the dllcache directory.

First of all, yes, it does ask me for disk 2 in the drive to play the game, when I have a full install. on your second question, I don't remember the mace you are talking about, but I have yet to have the game crash on me for anything....
-
To stripe disks in Win2k you must first upgrade them to dynamic drives....
