yeah, someone posted it here a few days after the compatibility patch was released....
-
It's that compatibility patch from microsoft that screwed it up... here is the .inf someone made to fix it: halflife.inf Save this, right-click it, and choose install. This removes the compatibility info from the registry, allowing it to run normal again

Reactor Critical has posted the detonator 5.17 nvidia drivers for win2k....

I'm on an Aopen AX6BC Pro Gold..... no problems whatsoever....

most win32 emulators will work fine under win2k. If you have a dos emulator you want to use, see if it has a win32 port, because it will work better then.

I have had this problem as well. People will probably say to remove any unnecessary protocols, try different protocols, etc., but it makes no difference. The one thing I haven't tried is with logging on to a domain. The setup where i experienced the problem was on a workgroup. I am guessing that being on a domain would fix, or at least help this. The only possible lead I have gotten on this is the 'scheduled tasks' share. This share does not exist in win98, but every win2k machine has it. Someone on another forum seemed to think that the delay was caused by win2k looking for this share on the win98 machine, until it times out. I have no idea if this is true, nor do I have any clue how to go about fixing it. Anyone have ideas?

To repair.... like I said, the first time it comes up asking to repair, DON'T! Just continue the installation. Act as if you are installing it for the first time. You will get to a screen that says something like install to another directory or repair installation. That's when you choose repair, and it will try to fix you current installation. This 'refresh' install has always worked for me, no matter what the problem!
-
If no one else can think of anything, you can always try refreshing your installation. To do that, boot off the cd, press enter to continue (not repair yet!), F8 I agree, then choose to repair your existing installation. It will re-copy all files and set the registry back to defaults. You won't have to reinstall any of your programs though.... it behaves exactly like an upgrade from a previous OS. You will have to reinstall drivers and critical updates though.
-
I know exactly what you're talking about... come around a corner and watch it 'stutter' to load new textures, etc.... I was in that situation as well with only 128mb ram, and as soon as i upgraded to 256, all those problems went away. Another stick of 128 would definitely be a worthy investment for your cause.

No, the 3d sound is still messed up in 413. I'm almost positive it's a problem with the drivers though, not the game, because other games do the exact same thing to me......
-
Sorry, I don't mean to attack you. You made it sound like there was something on that page that I was missing.... no harm done
-
I don't see anything on that page about eax or sblive.... in fact, the known issues page talks about issues with 405b, when 413 is the latest version. The only audio entry says that a3d can slow down performance...
-
ok badboy.... if it's a problem with UT and not the drivers, then why does it work in win98 just fine? also, enabling 4 speakers in the audiohq is only useful if you actually have 4 speakers! I have a 2 speaker + sub setup as well, and i would like to get the emulated surround sound that eax offers, like i do in 98.

I think they removed it.... probably because of the problems people were having with HL [This message has been edited by CUViper (edited 13 May 2000).]

AFAIK, the "all 1's" trick only worked when MS was using 10 digit cd-keys, i.e. 111-1111111. I don't think there is a quick and easy key to remember for the 20-digit codes. Better get on the phone with MS......
-
you mean you found a program that prevents the BSOD!?! I'm gonna download that right now!! </sarcasm>
-
The problem is the drivers, not the card. I have heard some success stories, but for the life of me i cannot get the 3d sound working properly. The 3d sound is what will make the difference over your previous sound card. Hopefully it will all be fixed when liveware4 comes out...

It fixed MY nvidia problem.... I was getting the 'must be in 16-bit color' message, but with the inf file it now works fine. Basically all the inf does is remove the registry key for half-life in the app-compatibility section. So if it was working before the update, it should also work after you install the inf.

for the intellitype software, you must download the latest version (i think 3.1a) from microsoft

The instructions work fine with the final release... I know, I did it myself. You are right that the files aren't there, but you can do the same thing with apcompat.exe, which IS in the final release. Or, you can also do a search of the forums, because someone posted those files on their website.
-
Go to Adaptec's web site, they have full instructions for you. There are also a lot of previous posts on this topic.... try the search button.

no, putting it on a 200 meg drive would probably be worse than if it were fragmented. A drive that old is probably WAY slow, and you want the swap file to be as fast as possible.

linksys router (possable firewall problem) cant get into nap
CUViper replied to Arin's topic in Networking
Napster can be set for any port in the preferences.... they recommend 6697 or 6699. 6697 seems to give me better results....
