Windows 2000 FIX, IS THIS TRUE

Can you be more specific on how they didn't work? did you get any errors? I don't know about the other games, but i know that zsnes requires the dos4gw.exe loader to run. maybe the version of dos you installed had that included? Anyway, if that is the case, then it is not necessary to install dos, but just get the dos4gw.exe file and put it in the directory with the game.

    DOS gaming??

    Weird Task Manager issue...

Hey guys... I don't what happened to cause this, but my task manager is screwed up. Here's a picture of what it looks like: It's really weird. I have no idea how to fix it, short of re-installing. I already tried a refresh install from the cd, but that didn't work. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe something in the registry?

Anyone have NFS4 working with 3D accel?

I don't know if it works with glide... I don't have a voodoo board. I doubt it, but I guess all you can do is try it. If not, just do d3d, as it will still be better than software rendering.

Strange 2000 Server Problem -- Answer Gets A Date! :)

It looks as though you have several dns servers competing for that domain name. I tried pinging it once and got 203.106.104.13. I pinged it again and got 202.188.111.74. Then i got 203.106.104.2, 203.106.104.3, 203.106.104.4, etc. The point is, every time i ping it, i'm getting a different ip, and only once did i get the ip that it should be. Does 203.106.104.xxx sound familiar? Sorry if this doesn't help much, but it is at least something to look into.

    Switching from UP to MP

Hi I seem to remember this being an issue a while back, and i don't remember if it was ever resolved. You CAN install another processor without reinstalling win2k... the instructions are here on the ms site: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/techenthusiast/tricks/administration/uniprocessor.asp Hope this is helpful!
  9. Wallaby, I don't know what you're smokin', but i have a diamond v770 ultra and it works just fine. Sure diamond has poor driver support for it, but who cares? Just use the nvidia reference drivers and you're golden. I haven't had a problem with any of my games in win2k "full screen and all". I did a search of the forum like you suggested, and I haven't seen any 770 problems since the 3.78 drivers came out. Trust me Andy, it is a good card to get.

Anyone have NFS4 working with 3D accel?

Here is the same reply i posted in another topic: You can get it into D3D mode if you follow the directions for the nfs4 demo: Quote: To play the game in Direct3D do the follow: 1. You'll need to have Need for Speed III installed on your computer (ie.Win98 partition) or your Need for Speed III CD handy for this to work. 2. Make a backup of the 3DData.dat file in the x:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes Demodsetup directory. 3. Replace the files in the x:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes Demodsetup directory with the ones in your NFS3 Installation or your NFS3 CD. 4. Replace the 3DData.dat file with the backup you made in step 2. 5. Run 3D Device Setup, and choose "Direct3D Device 1". You'll get some error message about this being untested, ignore it. 6. Run the demo. I have those files from nfs3, but I don't have server space. If someone wants to host the needed files let me know here and i will email them to you.

    Networking 2K & 98SE

    see this post: http://www.ntcompatible.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000509.html
  14. If you make a user account and you don't want it to be able to use that computer locally (i.e. use network shares but nothing else) then do this: Go to administrative tools Go to local security settings Go to local policies -> user rights assignment Enter the user into 'Deny logon locally'
  15. Just enable the guest account and use that password... You can also create a user account on win2k for the win98 machine, just make sure the user name is the same as the win98 login name

    Enable DMA in win2k?

I'm pretty sure it's the same as enabling dma for hard drives... in the device manager, go to the controller (i.e. primary or secondary ide channel), go to advanced settings, change it to 'use dma if available', and reboot. worked for me anyway...
