I usually like TDK as well, but I would like to throw out a warning - their newer drives (48x and 40x) are not nearly as good as the old ones. My roommate bought a 48x, and about every third disc he burned was bad. Also, my 12x TDK was ripping cd audio literally five times faster. It's no wonder then that you can find the TDK 40x and 48x drives for around $100, yet the 32x still costs $150...

Hide process from Process bar of the Taskmanager (W2K)
CUViper replied to jinglebells's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I wasn't trying to attack you - but you gotta admit that what you are trying to do sounded suspicious at first... As Christianb said, you should really look at getting your security settings down tight, rather than trying to hide it. Even if you do manage to hide it from task manager, there are other ways to find and kill a process. If the security settings prohibit it though, they are stuck... -
Hide process from Process bar of the Taskmanager (W2K)

Yes, please give your motives for doing this... the only kind of programs I can think of that would warrant this kind of request would be viruses and trojans... -
Have you guys seen the network stats for the Microsoft sites? http://www.microsoft.com/backstage/inside.htm I sure don't envy those admins...

Worked fine for me... I would try resetting all of the security settings to defaults. Go into Internet Options, head over to the security tab, and for each zone click the Default Level button.

All three of those games are great choices, but if I have to put a preference to them, I would say first is Grim Fandago, then The Longest Journey, and then The Escape from Monkey Island. It's been a while since I've played them, but I think they all work fine under XP...

How do you post images to the forum?

Quote: so strictly speak www.christianblackburn.com would be a different URL from www.ChristianBlackburn.com so make sure of what you are entering). Almost... domain names are not case sensitive, because the DNS resolution does not care. Once you get to the server though, the case-sensitivity issues come in to play. So http://www.christianblackburn.com/index.htm could be different than http://www.christianblackburn.com/Index.HTM if you're on a UNIX server. Though now that I've challenged you on this, I wonder... Could the "Host Header Name" in IIS (for example) separate two web sites based only on the capitalization? I doubt it, but I'm not sure on that one... Of course the DNS resolution would still force you to put it on IP address, but I guess I could see having the server split it up... -
You sound like you know the answer already - the firewall is probably blocking it. You'll need to beg your admin to open outgoing port 21 connections (or do it yourself if you're the admin)...

This is the closest I could find: http://www.olympus.co.jp/LineUp/Mo/MO640/tm640s2sE.html The model number there is MOS362S, rather than the MOS362E on you model - but it's close enough that there's got to be at least SOME similarity... If you want to look at some of their other MO drives, go here: http://www.olympus.co.jp/LineUp/Mo/indexE.html

Why in SpiderMan TheMovie Game only some levels will freeze?
CUViper replied to imtim2's topic in Games
Quote: Why in Spider-Man The Movie PC Game only some levels i go to will freeze? I don't get it - were you hoping that all the levels would freeze? Quote: But then when i did this cheat to open all levels... I wonder if this cheat somehow screwed things up for you. Was this cheat an in-game code you typed in, or was it a program that hacked the files? -
Quote: correct. I was just correcting the prev post that there is a difference between a hub and a switch. As Hellbringer said, I only meant for wiring purposes. When considering how to connect them, such as whether to use a crossover cable or a straight-through, when to use the uplink port, etc., you treat a switch exactly the same as you would a hub. I agree though, that when you hook many hubs and switches together, that the switches should be used as center nodes, and the hubs placed as perimeter "leaves"...

IE6 Content Advisor password lockout, I forgot password...
CUViper replied to dcxman's topic in Software
First, quit all instances of Internet Explorer. Then open Registry Editor and browse to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Ratings There is a REG_BINARY type named "Key" here... delete that. Now if you try to modify or disable the Content Advisor, it will prompt you to set a new password. -
As far as wiring goes, a switch is no different than a hub...

Looking for old game....Indy and fate of Atlantis
CUViper replied to dave.green1's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
LucasArts still sells this game here: http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/indyfate/ Or for just a little more, you can get the adventure collection: http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/adventure/ -
Whenever you change a motherboard, there are too many driver changes for you to just boot up again right away. But you don't necessarily have to reformat - you can just "refresh" your installation. Just boot off the XP CD and let it run through the repair process. (not the repair console, that is different...)

In any case, the actual formatting wouldn't cause the bad sectors. If there are bad sectors you should know about them asap... This is like if you refused to go to the dentist because you were afraid they might find cavities...

I'm right there with you sapiens74... yet even though I'm under 1000 I'm still only 14th on the "spammer" list.

You might also check your COMSPEC environment variable... type "set comspec" and a command prompt to see it. It should be "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe" (assuming windows is in c:\windows). Maybe also do a search on the drive for command.com, and delete every instance of it, except the one in system32.

yes, telepathy... That reminds me of one of my favorite Dilberts: PS - You had your system model in your specs... a little quick research discovered the video card in that system.
-
Have you tried Winamp 2? Winamp3 is a complete rewrite, so it could just be a bug in the program...
-
If you never view it, and don't open its attachments, you should be just fine. I have never heard of any virus that could infect the system just by being downloaded - that would be a pretty serious flaw in the mail client! It's just like if you download an infected exe... It's not dangerous until you run it.

I've got a SiS board (Asus P4S533) - I admit it had some problems at first, but after up[censored] the BIOS and the IDE drivers, it has been rock solid...

Nice find! I didn't even know you could change the security rights in the registry. I guess that's what I get for using "regedit.exe" (which can't change security) instead of "regedt32.exe"... As an aside, I think it's pretty ironic that the '32' version of Registry Editor looks more like the old 16-bit Windows 3.1 style. ;(

You should consider using a separate program for ripping audio... my favorite is CDex.
