You didn't say, but your system has a TNT graphics card, right? Try installing the reference drivers from nvidia...

Well theelviscerator, tell us how you really feel! There's no spyware in Kazaa Lite, and it's still the best program for finding mp3's...

Very nice... thanks for the link!

As a bare minimum, you will need: [*]Client for Microsoft Networks [*]File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks [*]TCP/IP [/list:u]You may also need IPX/SPX, depending on the games you are playing. I don't think you need it for either of the games you listed. Quote: ISA, coaxle NIC W2K SP3. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade your network... It's not very expensive to set up a 100 mbit LAN...

8) It's not an SP1 thing, because I went there with plain IE6 (on Win2k SP3), and sure enough, all ability to look at pictures disappeared! Even the Help->About window was missing pictures. I looked at the source code of that page, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Maybe it's something weird in one of those pictures, that may be hanging up IE's image decoding?

Must access mail from another ISPs server (URGENT PLZ READ!)
CUViper replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Slack Space
In the short term, all that usually happens is the password is changed. But what you should probably do is just pay for a minimal account through BT, one that just allows you to have the email address. Then get a new ISP account and never dial the BT one again. Then, as you go, try to convince your dad to start using the new email, and eventually you'll be able to get rid of the old one. -
There is the "Alternate Configuration" tab under the TCP/IP properties... but it looks like it will only let you add a second configuration, whereas you need three. I don't know though because I've never used it, but you could try it. Here's a couple of utilities that should also do it for you, though neither is free: IP Changer and IPSwitcher

Why not just use the built in backup utility? It has a scheduling feature... just point it to your .pst file and tell it to backup every saturday (or whatever) programs->accessories->system tools->backup
-
Do you think it's worth paying for, over the free 0.74 release? What are the differences in the pro version that you think are worthwhile?
-
Are you running NTFS on all drives? Cause I'm pretty sure FAT32 can't handle more than 2GB files...

I got a new version of uxtheme.dll from here: http://24.162.193.57:8080/

Have you guys seen this page? http://www.hanaho.com/products.php They've got full-blown cabinets already built, computer and all! You can also buy just the joystick control panel... looks really good! Of course, I'm sure this costs more than it would to build it yourself, but if you got the bucks it looks like a great way to go!

If you look under task manager, you will see it as lsass.exe. I found these descriptions on Microsoft's site: Quote: This is the local security authentication server, and it generates the process responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This process is performed by using authentication packages such as the default Msgina.dll. If authentication is successful, Lsass generates the user's access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes that the user initiates inherit this token. Quote: Local Security Administration Subsystem, the process running the Local Security Authority component of the Windows NT Security Subsystem. This process handles aspects of security administration on the local computer, including access and permissions. The Net Logon service shares this process.

Hey, if you've got it, you should posts your plans, blueprints, cad files, or whatever - so we can all jump on the bandwagon...

How do I get the names of all computers on my local LAN?
CUViper replied to ancker's topic in Networking
The "Connect to another computer" function can work by IP address as well, so you don't really need to know the name. Once connected, you can also find out the name by right-clicking the "Computer Management (ip address)" and choose properties. -
Java's main advantage: portability Java's main disadvantage: speed Every language has its advantages and disadvantages, and Java is no exception. If portability is your ONLY concern, then yes, you should seriously look at Java.

Holy cow, you had more tangents in there than my old trigonometry book! Anyway, you almost made my exact point right here: Quote: See, if you as a U.S. Citizen start to give up on our fundamental root laws & concepts the unwritten AND written ones... and allow little laws that blow off our fundamentals being passed slowly over time, you head us into roped down control no less than dictatorship. This is exactly how I see what happened here. The FBI bent the rules (and perhaps outright broke them) in order to catch these guys. But I'll grant you, they did what had to be done to bring these guys to justice. The problem is, by allowing this to happen, they are setting a precedence for future scenarios, which is effectively making a new "little law" as you put it. So where do you draw the line? Our government is remarkable in how the checks and balances are set up. And while it's not perfect, it does work pretty damn well. But if we start making exceptions for certain groups, even law enforcement, then who will have the power to decide when they've stepped out of bounds?
-
I think it's very cool that the FBI was able to trick them like that, but as was said in the article, it also does present a question of the legal precedence being set here. If I go to a library (or some other public place) and check my email, I don't think it is right for the FBI to sniff my password and start accessing my email without ever getting a warrant! Sure, supposedly they waited for the warrant before opening any of those files, but come on! They obviously didn't download everything, so they must have been snooping around in there for the particular files they were looking for. That would be like them making a copy of my house key, entering my home, and maybe they see my cd wallet with over 100 burnt music cd's. Then they use that as evidence to get a warrant? Then it turns out, those copied cd's are legitimate backups of cd's I own! It just isn't right...

Quote: Well yeah....its a brand new card, what do you expect and they have already said that problems such as BF1942 crashing will be fixed in the next driver release. I expect them to work right out of the box, just like every nvidia card I've ever owned. It's exactly this kind of thing that makes me stay loyal to nvidia.

You are correct... either a given resolution will work or not. The fact that it is working at all for you indicates that you will be fine at that resolution. The plug-and-play sometimes does not discover all valid modes for a monitor, thus this one was hidden from you. If you can figure out exactly what model the monitor is, you could probably get a driver that will correctly have all of the available modes for you.

What bugs me is that the HTML "standard" doesn't seem that way. Even when you do everything properly, a site that looks great in IE can look like shit in Netscape/Mozilla/Opera because of unsupported features or different rendering styles. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I hate having to rewrite a website just to make netscape, etc. cooperate...

Try searching Chips & Bits for "Grand Theft Auto"... they've got GTA2 for Windows for $12.95 (US). It looks like they will ship internationally too, though that costs a lot. I don't know what international shipping rates are usually like, but they want "$4.00 per order, $23.50 per shipment & $5.50 per item" to go to Australia. I did the checkout just to see, and the grand total came to $45.95 (US). So if you really want it, there it is. I guess you could offset the cost of shipping a little though if you order some other things through them as well...

Wow, congratulations! I hope this doesn't affect your NTCompatible social life though...

Seriously --anything wrong with using XP's compatibility DB?

Sorry RedStar, that came out harsher than I intended... I just wanted to stop a misconception before it spread any further.... No hard feelings? -

Quote: i would also point out that win2kpro supports 2 CPUS. WinXP does NOT! You sure about that? Check here. And I quote: Quote: Supports up to 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and up to two symmetric multiprocessors. WinXP Pro can handle 2 cpu's just as well as Win2K Pro. On the other hand, WinXP Home is limited to one cpu, but why would you limit yourself like that? And what is this "XP advanced" you're talking about?
