  1. I have a Hitachi GD-2500 IDE DVDROM drive which performs exceedingly poorly in Windows 2000. When playing a dvd with the latest version of PowerDVD, roughly 50% of the frames are dropped and the sound is quite choppy. When copying files from the dvd to both ide and scsi hard drives, Win2000 slows considerably (ie. moving the mouse pointer around the screen is no longer remotely smooth). I had similar problems in Win98SE until DMA was enabled. Is there any way to check its status in Win2000? It's missing from both the device manager and computer management, from what I can tell.

    MX300 sound output

In Win2000 Pro, my MX300 is deteced and configured seemingly properly as Vortex Multifunction Parent, Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio (WDM), and Aureal Vortex Game Port. Unfortunately, the card sounds as if it's adding a loud buzz filter to whatever it plays. The card worked fine when I first installed the OS but began this weird behaviour today. Any suggestions?

    MX300 sound output

I believe I've tried that. How do I ensure that all the drivers were completely removed?
  4. I've been running Windows 2000 Pro for a few days but something odd happened when I booted up this morning. My taskbar shortcut icons had vanished and I can no longer add any. Right-clicking on the taskbar does absolutely nothing. Anyone ever experienced this before and know how to restore full taskbar functionality?

    limited taskbar functionality

That really didn't do anything. Also, the taskbar was so messed up that right-clicking didn't even pop up a menu. The settings had to be accessed from Start->Settings->Taskbar & Start Menu. Fortunately, I did seem to fix it somehow. I rebooted about ten times and the taskbar icons suddenly reappeared. This is one of the weirdest Windows glitches I've ever experienced. Thanks anyways.
