Hey all, It's been a while since I posted on this board, but that's 'cause I was using Windows ME for a while, but now I'm back to win2k. Anyway, so I put in my Intel Pro PC Camera which is the CS430 USB Webcam, and to my surprise the quality is really shitty on netmeeting when compared to that of windows ME. On windows ME I used the Netmeeting 3.01 from their website, on Windows 2000 the same. The problem is that in the tools/options/video tab/ the send Image size has "large" greyed out and even on the Medium quality setting the video has a black border around it and it is very very small. Aargh. Has anyone else had this problem on their Win2k machine with this webcam? I know that for a while this webcam wasn't supported under win2k by Intel, but the drivers I used for this camera were from Intel's website. Anyone know of this problem or have a solution? I'm all ears... regards, Riz

bump! has anyone been using this cam with their win2k box, then? I don't want to be the only one... riz

hey all, first of all, it's been a long while since i've posted anything. It's cause ive had WinME on my computer lately, and i'm thinking of going back to 2000. Now the main reason i switched from 2000 to ME in the first place was because my Microsoft Force Feedback Pro Joystick (the version 1.0 (that came with Mechwarrior 3) doesn't give any force feedback in games in 2000, and in some games causes it to lag horribly (like NFS 5: Porsche). I think it's due to my crappy Yamaha generic sound card, but i'm not sure. Just wanted to know if anyone else had problems with any of their MS force feedback joysticks, be it a new or old version. thanks, riz

hey guys, i was going nuts because it wouldn'tinstall any device drivers for me. After reading this post, i just tried uninstalling IE 5.5 rather that going to WindowsUpdate (mainly 'cause my network card was also not installing!). Guess what? It worked out better, since now I can change drivers normally again, instead of having to do this everytime as AGMHAMMER pointed out regards riz

MS announced that version 4.0 of their sidewinder software is going to be released for their new version of the force feedback joystick. they didn't say anything about support for 3.0-, so i din't know. I have a version 3.0 force feedback pro. lets hope and see riz

i heard from the microsoft newsgroup that the transparency performance currently is highest with matrox, then the voodoos, then the nVidia cards. I have an nVidia card on a p300. sob. but it still works okay, if you turn on any fading/sliding effects for menus. regards, Riz

go to your device manager, and under the IDE controllers, select the properties of the seconday IDE controller, and enable DMA mode of possible, that'll solve your slow down, i'm quite sure... it might even fix the lockups riz
-
the problem you're having has to do with the card not getting a separate IRQ for itself. nVidia cards require an IRQ port to run properly. IN your motherboard BIOS settings, there should be a setting called "Assign IRQ to VGA" which MUST be on. Try that, and also disable all the video shadowing (but keep the Video BIOS Shadow ENABLED) hope it helps riz

What's up guys, got a quick question. I searched the board already, but i don't anyone else has this prob: grim fandango is always trying to install Dx5 in my win2k (2195) system whenever i try to run it. any ideas on how to cancel it? If i press don't install, it goes back to windows, and if i try to run the game it tries to install dx5. <sigh> riz

What's up guys, Got a quick question bout something that's sorta buggin me in Win2k's CD player. Those of you who had MS Plus! 98 will know that it's the same cd player in Win2000 (Build 2195). Anyways, i'm on a university ethernet connection out to the internet. I can't download track names automatically like i could in MS Plus! 98. Any idea why? When i click on the download track names, it get an error message immediately, saying "Unable to connect to album information providers. Check your internet connection settings and try again." I looked in the options for the cd player too, but nothing can be changed that fixes it. Pls. help! Even though i'm so used to having mp3's on my computer, it's nice to listen to some Audio CD's now and then too, just only if i could also download the track names =) riz

get a hold of yourself man, you're fallin apart! Fisrt of al you need to say how the games aren't working and what kind of setup you have, the people in this forum may be smart but not so smart to be able to guess your configuration and problem just from you saying "it don't work". so if you want to some help, write back with more info riz

just wondering, but does the soldier of fortune demo work with the new drivers? riz
-
just wondering, does the warez version of the game work slower in multiplayer than the original? riz

well, Habs i went to adrenalive vault and found that the patch you're talkin bout is the 2.05 patch. I already have that installed, but i still get the choppyness (liken when moving the mouse in the menus and ****), oh well, i guess it's my computer, thanks for replying dude riz

YEEAA windowblinds and win2k are inseparable man, they kick ass just thought i'd say that riz
-
Habsrulz what patch? I can't find it anywhere. Are you talking about the 2.05 patch? I'm still getting chronic pauses through out the game, though it's not as bad in multiplayer mode. riz

Hey what's up guys, just a quick question: I have a 6.4Gb IDE HD, a Acer 32x IDE CDROM drive, and a Mitsumi CDR. In win98/se you can enable the DMA for these drives, and i believe I had them enabled. I'm having just as awesome performance from these drives in win2000 (2195) as i did back in 98, but i went to device manager there is no option to turn this on/off. Nor is there any settings like before, such as the Data Sync, Disconnect, etc. Any idea why, or whether i should be worried?

any other cpu intensive software that creates this problem? I dont' know the solution, but perhaps i could help discover what we're looking at: All of the progs are CPU intensive and all of them are Graphics intensive. But all of them work for a while before you get that crash. Possibly an overheating problem? try defragging your HD, not to defrag it, but to test if it's your hard drive that's causing the "Machine Check Error". hope that will help some, but i doubt it. riz

SOrry, this aint a solution, just wanted to say i got the same problem, but i noticed that i don't get that problem when playing multiplayer too much. When i play single player, it's like watching a really bad .asf movie: the frame rate keeps changing and the game seems to pause every 2 seconds. Really weird and very annoying. riz P2-300MMX on Intel 440lx Viper v550 (TnT) 192Mb SDRAM Yamaha PCI Audio Acer 32x CDROM/Mitsume 4801TE CD-R 6.4Gb Hd Windows 2000 Final 2195

if you have the new ASPI drivers which you need for cdr's to work in win2000, then EZCD 4 works fine, at least for me riz

i would say get the Abit SMP boards, i know they make the BP6 which is a good multiproc board, but it's socket370. i know they make slot 1 dual boards, and i've never heard of people having problems with Abit riz http://www.abit-usa.com

Usually in the Power Management section in the BIOS, there's a setting for turning fan on/off in suspend. Try turning it off. I saw you have an Abit mobo, they're good, and i think they have that option good luck, riz
