I seem to have the same problem as some guys above, it's screwed Media Player up somehow. Oh well, Creative might actually do something right these days and release a good quality piece of software which doesn't screw anything else up. /me hears Pig flying overhead -Ex-

Well, I'll be reinstalling Windows 2000 when I install my new Abit KA7 mobo and GeForce 2 GTS, so I'll be sticking those new Creative Dxr3 drivers in and seeing how I get on with them Hopefully have some good news to report soon. -Ex-

Yup, if you install a new motherboard, definetly reinstall completely. Graphics card hasn't been a problem when I've done it...but I might have just been lucky :smokin: Although on Sunday I'll be installing my new Abit KA7 mobo and GeForce 2 GTS...so will have to reinstall Windows 2000...will try those new Creative Dxr3 drivers as well -Ex-

I think it was originally meant to be out yesterday, or today. However, I think Valve for some reason decided to change that, so I think the new release date is next Tuesday...just hear say though. I don't play online at the moment, so I'm just using it to get a feel for the new stuff. -Ex-

Do you have several zip files? - once those are extracted to a new dir you end up with filenames like 10161100.001, 10161100.002, etc? If that's the case (and it was with mine) just use WinRAR (www.rarsoft.com) to unpack it to create the 10161100.exe updater. Then just run the program to install the update Should be just over 20 megs. -Ex-

Just noticed on the front page, looks like Creative won't be getting their fingers out any time soon...mid June now -Ex-

I agree, I assume it's a close to release build, if not the final build (dated 15/5) - after downloading it (finally, it took ages from that sloooooooow site). Very nice it is to, the in-game menus look much, much better Speaking of version numbers, the patch "is" actually 1.1.0.0. The version of TFC included is 1.5. -Ex-

I've tried several times to download this upgrade, and I still can't see it on windowsupdate Ex

Changed me motherboard from an Asus K7M to the K7V - formatted and reinstalled Windows 2000, which works fine until I try to upgrade the GeForce drivers then it refused to boot up and just reboot before the login screen continually - I tried again, but taking the new memory dimm out and putting the old ones in - same problems. So I put the K7M back in, reinstalled Windows 2000 - seemed to go ok....but now I keep getting program crashes, and instant reboots (Ive only just changed the option so it doesnt do that)...whats going on? - is it worth running the repair option? - what exactly does that do - do I need to reinstall my hardware/apps? Not sure what it is, but problems between the GeForce and the K7V have been well documented and numerous Getting myself one of those spanking new Abit KA7s maybe, and then have to decide between the GeForce 2 and the Voodoo 5, which one will be it? Ex

Windows Me will (hopefully) be the last Windows OS to be based on the old 9x DOS kernel, but it is still the old kernel, although supposedly much much better than Win98, I have yet to install this 2513 build so can't comment. Ex

I spent 5 minutes looking at all these posts to see where on Earth you got this overclocking nonsense from, yes your point is valid but has nothing to do with my original post, or indeed any of the replies. I haven't overclocked my setup, I never have done and most probably never will, it was a question for help to try and get it working, the simple fact was that the K7V didn't like my GeForce or DVD card, meaning I have to wait for the next gen cards to come out or proper Win2000 drivers before I switch motherboards. For now I'm quite happy with my K7M/5.13 Drivers. Exorcist

Thought some of you FF8'ers might like to know about the patch, just released...which apparently fixes the Graphics corruption issues as well as other things. http://www.3dfiles.com/patches/finalfantasyviii.shtml Not tried it yet myself, but will do as soon as I sort my PC out Exorcist

There are 2 patches, one for the GeForce - the other isn't....which one did you get? I only say this becase I just tried it with the GeForce patch - and the graphics are now spot on, with no lines or anything Exorcist

Ahh well...I'll be formatting this comp one last time tomorrow before reinstalling everything, including FF8 - then I'll be able to see if it helps at all.. Exorcist

The one I was using for 5.13 (before all this comp nonsense buggered it up) added the overclocking sliders to the other boxes added with 5.13. I hadn't tried it, just a registry setting whch enables them... Exorcist

These kinda posts are turning out to be the best thing on this site I personally like Win2k a lot, sure somethings take a bit of fiddling to work but they "all" work...every piece of hardware I have has either offical windows 2000 driver or suitable beta alternatives...and all the games I play at the moment work...and work well. I come here to a) Check up for the latest Gfx Drivers, etc.. Post messages if I have a problem with anything and c) See if anyone has a problem I can help with....that's the point, see...meant to help on these boards Exorcist

There's a registry file floating around which can enable coolbits in 5.13 (I've had it working before). Sure someone here will be able to send it you. Exorcist

You can get the 5.1.3 Driver set from www.reactorcritical.com Or if you can't be bothered, the direct link is below http://www.reactorcritical.com/files/NVidia/w2k-513.zip Exorcist

Once it works, it's excellent...it may take a bit of fiddling to get some things to work with it but once that's out the way it's stable as anything. You can get the Dxr3 working under Windows 2000, maybe not as good as Win98 but it plays movies...good enough for me Exorcist

Well, I took the 256mb dimm out and put it back to how it was - that worked fine...it seems the K7V didn't like several things in my setup, namely my DVD card (apparently) and my GeForce card. So I then just stuck my K7M back in, with the 256mb dimm - seems to be working ok - but I got a lot of baggage from the old mb - so I have to format "again" Grrrr - 2 days messing about with motherboards and cards, formatting and stuff - and the only difference now is changing 2 memory dimms to 1... Exorcist
-
Well, using my old K7M board and 2x128PC100 with 1x256PC133 dimms - I kept getting continual program crashes and reboots - taking the PC133 dimm out and reinstalled Win2k and its back to being as stable as a very stable thing.. Is that buggered memory? - or putting the 2 memory speeds together? - I'm a little confused. Exorcist

I've been having a fair few occasions recently, whereby trying to start a program up - causes the system to freeze....the program (it can vary sometimes) won't start...starting task manager doesn't help because i can't see the program to kill it. The taskbar becomes untouchable, and after a while the program starts up and normality resumes - nothing in the event log or any other log that I can see - doing my head in Anyone have any ideas? There's a new Direct CD update, version 3.01 which apparently includes proper Windows 2000 - Link below; http://webcheckup.adaptec.com/downloads/full_update/dcd/dcd_301_up.exe Dated March 27th, not sure if it works yet as I'm just off back to work Exorcist

Running an Athlon 700, on an Asus K7M Board (although tomorrow I'll be changing to the K7V Board) - 256Mb PC100 Ram, and the 32MB DDR GeForce, SbLive Platinum - all the drivers are proper drivers, cept the beta 5.13 drivers for the GeForce (although it happened before I installed those as well) Proggies running, er, ICQ, an IRC Server - OE and an IRC Client usually.
