    Piracy...

I also agree with Shrink. DrSchmoe, many people like to have the biggest, badest machine with the latest and greatest software. Just because you can't think of a good reason that someone should be running Advanced Server doesn't mean he can't. You also forget that these advanced versions are legally obtainable for less then their retail prices. You yourself mention academic versions resonably priced. Personally, I just received today my NFR copies of win2k pro, server, and advanced server that were part of a MS HOT kit that cost me less than $150!
  2. I am having trouble sharing my cable internet connection. I have 2 nics in the "server" and sharing on the cable connection is enabled. The lan is functioning fine, I can see all the machines in net neighborhood and My net places. I can transfer files to and from the machines, however, I can't share the connection. I also noticed that the server does not always assign an ip the way it is supposed to to the client machines (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). Does anyone know what I should be looking for to get this working? ------------------ C366@577, Abit BE6, 192mb PC100 Voodoo3 3000, SBLive Value, Hollywood+, AverTV/Phone 3Com 3C509 (Cable), Linksys 10/100 (LAN), Generic 56k modem IBM 20.5gb 7200, WD 18gb 7200 on HPT366 Pioneer 104s, HP7200i

    Internet sharing with Win98 machines

I have a small home lan. USB nic in the win98 machine, Linksys nic in the win2k box, pcmcia for my notebook. I have a 10baseT hub. The win2k machine also has a 3com nic for cable. I will try irc later. Thanks.

    Internet sharing with Win98 machines

I am attempting to share the same ip. I don't think Mediaone/Roadrunner offers multiple ips in my area currently. From what I understand, win2k's sharing is basicly NAT. When you say set 98's DNS to ISP primary & secondary I'm not sure what you mean. I only have a primary as far as I know, and it is dynamic so it changes occassionaly. Also, I thought when you set ICS in win2k, it takes care of assigning ips to all the machines on the network. Mine does sometimes but not others. Thanks for your help and any networking links would be apprectiated.

    Palm Desktop Question

I am using Palm Desktop 3.0.3 in win2k final. It work fine except for the most part. However, when viewing the address list I used to be able to (in win 98) select a group of name and drag them on to an Excel or Word icon and they would be imported. In win2k I only have a clipboard to drag to - no Excel or word. Any ideas? ------------------ C366@577, Abit BE6, 192mb PC100 Voodoo3 3000, SBLive Value, Hollywood+, AverTV/Phone 3Com 3C509 (Cable), Linksys 10/100 (LAN), Generic 56k modem IBM 20.5gb 7200, WD 18gb 7200 on HPT366 Pioneer 104s, HP7200i

Is there any way to set an affinity permanently, so that every time you run a given program it uses a specific processor?

    looking for bt848a driver ?

I have a tuner that also uses this chip (Aver TV/Phone). Do you think there is anyway to use the hauppauge software for it? The original manufacturer has informed me that they will NOT be supporting win2k (the bastards!). If there is any known way to modify any existing drivers/applications to work with this card that would be awesome - not to mention it would save me a few $.

    Arrrgggghhhhh.... Liveware and MP3 problem

I had the same problem when I switched to liveware - MP3s that played fine with the original driver started to stutter. All I had to do is adjust the buffer length and directsound block size up a bit and it all cleared up (Options>Prefereces>Output>Directsound>Configure).

SBLive, Dell LW & Power Management

That slider only controls right/left balance not front/rear. Anybody else figured out how to control front/back balance? Anyone got a way to the awesome lw3 mixer working?

    No TV Support In Win2k!

It just bugs me that we spend good money and invest in a product and the vendor just says "Sorry, we don't plan on supporting win2k for your device. Screw you." Oh well, I guess I have to find a new tv tuner. Is there a usb one? Or at least one that works in win2k w/o problems.

    Nero problems

I know this topic has been covered, but I could not find a solution that worked for me. I have win2k final. I have installed the latest ASPI per previous posts. After installing Nero and rebooting, when trying to run Nero 4.0.8.3, system hangs on the Nero splash screen. I have installed and reinstalled 3 times, on NTFS partition, on Fat32 partition -- still no go. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ------------------ C366@577, Abit BE6, 192mb PC100 Voodoo3 3000, SBLive Value, Hollywood+, AverTV/Phone 3Com 3C509 (Cable), Linksys 10/100 (LAN), Generic 56k modem IBM 20.5gb 7200, WD 18gb 7200 on HPT366 Pioneer 104s, HP7200i

    Creative SB Live! FAQ

Who wants to go back to liveware 1? I too gave Creative too much credit, thinking they would intro Liveware 4 for win 2k. Also, no mention of SMP compatibility, anyone know if these "new" driver's will support it? That might be a reason to switch...

    Nero problems

That would suck! Do you mean move the burner and CD player or my hd? My standard IDE contoller is pretty full with DVD, burner, and internal zip. Overall, the HPT366 and win2k seem to get along, after some installation problems. Does anyone have Nero working in win2k on a BE6 w/ hd on HPT controller?

    Need some help

I have been having some problems setting up ICS, some networking issues, and Nero difficulties. When troubleshooting I came across the following entries in the event viewer. If anyone can explain them to me or tell me if they are problematic, please post or email me. Application Log Event Type: Information Event Source: Oakley Event Category: None Event ID: 542 Date: 2/13/2000 Time: 7:03:03 PM User: N/A Computer: MW1 Description: The IP Security policy for ISAKMP/Oakley specified an encryption algorithm that is invalid due to export cryptography restrictions. All 3DES encryption used by ISAKMP/Oakley is weakened to standard DES encyption. Generally, this is benign. ISAKMP/Oakley will still be able to negotiate IP security parameters, and protect that negotiation with DES encryption. This should only be of concern if you demand that the ISAKMP/Oakley negotiation be protected with 3DES encryption. If this is the case, please contact your network administrator. Speed with Iomega Parallell zip.

How did you get win2k to even recognize your parrallel zip drive? I tried to install to latest iomega software, but it gives a message that "win2000 is not supported" or something to that affect. Which version of the drivers are you using?

    Hollywood plus problems

The win2k built-in dvd player doesn't support the H+ for some stupid reason. However, if you install the dvd station software and start it manually, it should work fine.
