I have a win2k/win98se dual boot config. Can the 2 os share an installation of an application? Let me explain. I have Office 2000 installed in my win98se. Can just I install it in Win2k to the same location or will this mess up my 98 installation? The drive I want to intall to is visible to both installations. TIA

I have a Pioneer 104s DVD. I know if worked because I used it to install Win2k! I also tested a dvd and it played fine. However, now, after I insert a disc (any disc, data, audio, or dvd) it spins up, the light comes on for a sec then goes off. If I try to look at it in explorer it says insert disc. The drive still works fine in win98 so I don't think it's a hardware problem. I tried to remove it from device manager an let win2k find it on reboot, but that didn't help. Any ideas/suggestions?

Anything that I plan to have available from both platforms, I will install to a FAT32 partition. I don't think it should matter that my Win2k is NTFS if I don't plan on sharing anything on that partition. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Eddie, that's what I thought, I just wanted to hear from someone who has done it! Do you do this with all your apps or just some? Have you had any problems with specific apps?

Install win2k while your hd is connected to the standard IDE channel. Aftem install is finished, install the driver for the hpt366 UDMA/66 contoller (should be available from highpoint-tech.com ithink). After installed (you might have to do it separately for each UDMA/66 channel), shut down, switch your drive to the hpt366 controller and reboot. There may be an easier way but I've done this and it works.

If Windows Update does not show any "Critical Updates" does that mean I do NOT have the final version? I heard that MS found some huge security problem and posted an update, yet none show up for me. Does this mean that I will never be able to update this build (2195 is what it says)?

Let me clarify a bit. I have Win2k on ntfs, win 98 on fat32. Additionally I have another fat32 partition that has most of my win98 programs on it. What I want to do is install, say office or any other program, in win2k to the same location where it already exists. The install procedure will write any reg entries needed, right? I will probably lose any settings that are stored in local ini files or things like templates and such, but in my mind this should work. Has anybody tried anything like this?

I'm so jealous! I can't get my Aver TV/Phone to work at all! What chip is wintv based on? My tuner is based on the bt848 I think. Has anybody got this card to work?

Does anybody have a Gravis Xterminator gamepad working under Win2k? If yes, which drivers do you use? ------------------ C366@577, Abit BE6, 192mb PC100 Voodoo3 3000, SBLive Value, Hollywood+, AverTV/Phone 3Com 3C509 (Cable), Linksys 10/100 (LAN), Generic 56k modem IBM 20.5gb 7200, WD 18gb 7200 on HPT366 Pioneer 104s, HP7200i

I know that right now there is a lack of driver support and hopefully that will change very soon. That said, here is what I am having trouble with (who wants to wait?): IBM Rapid Access Keyboard (Keyboard works but no function keys work) AverTV/Phone TV Tuner doesn't work at all (actually locks up on boot when enabled) Num Lock key sometimes enabled sometimes disabled SBLive Value only works w/ front spkrs and no LiveWare (I've read about ways to get this to work but it seems much too tedious) Can't get Com1 and my modem (Com3) to share an interrupt - in win98 this worked fine, I just couldn't use both at the same time (have a digital cam and palm hot-synch on com1), win2k will not allow this. Ne1 know if there is a way around this? (I really would like to fix this one right away)

Yuppie, thanks for your suggestions. 1. I guess I could move the UPS to com 1 and just switch (I have a 4-way switch box) it to palm/cam when needed. 2. I wish I had an IRQ available! 3. Unfortunately, I don't have any PCI slots available. Besides, I really don't want a winmodem. 4. I like this idea. Do you know where I could get one of these USB/Parallel/Serial hubs and how much they cost? That might be the best solution. Thanks again for your input. As I stated in my original post, I realize that Win2k hasn't been released yet. All I was wondering was if others had similar problems or helpful suggestions. That is what this board is for, isn't it? I have my modem on com3 because I have a PalmIII and a digital camera that I connect to com1, and my UPS is connected on com2. I really do not understand your comment about "don't cram so much in to your computer." What is it for if I can't get it to do what I want or need it to? Isn't there a reason for pci/isa slots? Are they just for decoration or are they to be used to their fullest potential? While I agree that Win98 is crap, I was able to fill all of my slots (1 agp, 4 pci, 2 isa) and have everthing configured and working properly. All I would like is the same ability in win2k. I like that win98 allowed 2 legacy devices to share an interrupt as long as they were not in use at the same time. Win2k seems to not allow this whether in use or not.
