I noticed that build 2428 uses IIS6 for the server portion of the OS. The thing is that its basically crippled and unusable at this point, is this the case for you guys using newer builds? Just wondering because I was going to install the OS on my webserver but can't untill IIS is fully active. Also has anyone come across any good tweaks for memory consumption. Its already much better than earlier builds i've tried but could use some improvement. ------------------ dual p2 400@450 supermicro p6dgu mainboard creative geforce2 SB LIve 384 MB Ram Celeron 300a@504 256 MB Ram

Thank you for all your opinions guys. Just a couple last questions. Do any of the bx based boards support 4x agp. I know that at this point its pretty useless to have, but i'm loking for future performance as well? Next, can someone reccomend a good reputable site online to buy from that has good prices? Lastly for donald2b, do you have any compatibility problems with your SB live or your Geforce2 at all? I currently have a dual p2 400 and would like to build another smp system but was worried about compatibility problems with the p3 700 after all the crap i've put up with on my system. My SB live always locks the system so I took it out. I got the geforce2 which also locks the system all the time so its out too.....talk about a pain in the neck ------------------

Ok guys its been a week and my damn geforce2 is still crashing my system every few minutes. I finally decided to just buy a second system for the geforce. I have decided to get a p3 700 with motherboard. My problem has been in deciding which motherboard to get. Every review I have read seems to have something negative to say about each board. My question is which board should I look for. I don't need SCSI support or anyhting built in like audio or anything. I just need a good stable mobo for the geforce that supports my current pc100 ram until I can save up the cash for some pc133 ram. Thanks for your help as always guys. ------------------

Two days ago I bought a geforce2 MX DDR. I love this card, the performance kicks ass when it works. So far i've tried almost every set of detonator drivers imaginable, i've tweaked bios settings and used dxdiag to disable agp hoping that this would help. Everytime I start up windows, the screen freezes. Sometimes it freezes before windows finishes loading, and sometimes it freezes after several hours of use. I searched this forum and most others looking for help, but have had no luck. My setup is a Supermicro P6DGU motherboard using the 440GX chipset. Two PII 400's@464. I've taken everything else besides the video card out of the computer untill I can solve this problem.....Thanks guys ------------------

Well for the past several months I have had nothing but problems with my damn soundblaster live. My computer would lock up every time I used my netword, and watched video or listened to video. I finally decided that I need to fix the problem so the first thing I did was take out the soundblaster live. What do you know, no more lockups and the system is dead stable. I suspect its a problem with my dual processor setup thats incompatible with the SB. I'm running a supermicro p6dgu motherboard with 2 p2 400's at 504. Anyhow I was wondering what other sound card you guys would reccomend I use. I just need something that I can listen to my mp3's and stuff with that runs on a dual cpu computer. I would like something with a coaxial digital output for my Onkyo receiver, but if not then its not a huge deal. ------------------

Well I was kind of disapointed yesterday by this very topic. I'm running Whistler and Win2k pro dual boot. I threw in a second video card and had perfect multi-monitor support in win2k, but couldn't get it to work at all in Whistler. Changed my bios to look for the pci card first and everything, even tried 3 different video cards with no luck. Anyone else have any input on the topic. ------------------

Well, I got the start page to come up on the desktop by setting it as an active desktop idem. It worked fine, but no items are showing up under recent programs and such. I'm going to check out the script for the page and see if I can figure it out.

Well I was surprised to see that my SCSI card works under Whistler where as it didn't ever work under win2k. I thought that was nice, but my SB live still skips horribly playing mp3s with the coaxial output.....Oh well we can't have it all

I've been running the sims with no problems what so ever. Its a burned copy, but I just used blind read to copy it so it would get all of the bad sectors. I'm running build 2195 and have a voodoo 3 on 2 p2 450's.....oh, but the game does take a day and a half to load........ Brian

hello everyone....My neighbor has a 3com 5690 modem installed which has the wdm drivers from microsoft. The problem is that she really needs the voice capabilities of her modem. There are new drivers for windows nt , but when I install them it asks for the nt5.0 disk. The problem with this is that there is no nt5.0 disk, and the single file it asks for is not on their windows 98 or nt 4.0 driver. I've tried everything and this is the 4th modem she has used, please tell me that one of you has a magical workaround or hack for this......thak you very much Brian

At least i'm not the only one having this problem. I have installed q3a on two different computers. the first one is a dual p2450 256mb ram, voodoo 3 3k, and a sounsblaster live using the default wdm drivers. oh and all of these computers are running win2k 2195. The second computer is a celeron 300a at 504 using a soundblaster awe 32, and a voodoo 3 and matrox g200. I get those damn strange noises on both computers. it sounds like a vibrating type thing but its real loud and real annoying, but it only happens when i'm walking which makes me think that a sound file is screwd up, but I have no clue how to fix it. please help
