Hi there, here's my problem : I've got a BP6 Mobo working just fine, but (!!) I have noticed that my harddrive is slower on Win2K than on Win98 for example when I load a huge MP3 playlist. This is on a IBM 20Go 7200T Hard Drive, located on the first HPT366 chanel of the mobo and on a FAT 32 partition. I have the latest version of the HPT366 driver for Win2K. If anyone has a clue why the disk is slower.. Thanks

OK, first thanks all for your replies. This in fact was due to the FAT32 file system as I tried transfering files to an NTFS partition and it proves to be much faster. The problem is I access those files from W98 or W2k so they must stay on the FAT32 partition. I'll just be patient and this will do, unless someone has a magic patch to have W98 recognise NTFS ??!! Thanks again all.

well I guess with a bit of effort and help you could perfectly run Wink with your config and It's really worth one try. You know it took me three fresh install of Win2K to fully understand how the install itself was working and what the different options are when pressing F6 - F5 upon install. I'm pretty comfortable with PC's but a new OS menas new problems , new challenge. My native language is french but I think you have a quote in English that I find cool : No Pain ... No Gain

Throw it out the window !! OK, check the compatibility of your hardware with 98SE I had a problem sometime ago with an Abit Motherboard and a Live! sound card, the default Live driver where just crashing PC at startup... still a win98 mystery to me. not the only one I guess..

WinME ... you switch from Win2K Pro to WinME ?!!! That's insane ... I'll never talk to you again ... ever ! ;-)

If you're talking about desktop themes, you can find themes.exe in the WINNT directory.

DAN : Thanks that's what I meant, sorry to be unclear. The start menu properties in W2K are much more customizable than in W98 and any folder can be drag/drop and expand like Carver says. ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final

You shouldn't have upgraded from W2000 to W95 !! is it just your icons of your whole display? did you remind installing anything or changing your configuration before it happened ? did you try to switch the icon option off then back on ?

OK, well it depends what you do with it .. I have a Millenium 2Mo running W2K perfectly fine, of course i'n not playing on this computer. Euh, but I think that those two items are already expandable in the start menu. This can be found in the start menu properties. What does this tweak add ? ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final

Well, a good old Win98 boot disk could do the trick ! You won't see your NTFS drives if you have any but who cares if it's just to flash a bios .. ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final

HI, Well I have this small problem about hibernation : When I first installed W2K my IBM drive was on the ATA33 controller of my BP6 and no problemo I could see the hibernation tab and even use it . At some point I moved my drive to my ATA66 controller and as the driver was not supporting hibernation I could not hibernate anymore.. But the hibernation tab was still there. Now I reinstalled my PC 2 weeks ago with this same driver .. and of course no Hibernation tab was showing up . I then upgraded to a so-called ACPI compatible version of the HPT366 driver (1.23.1) but I can't see the Hibernation tab back !! Is there a way I can activate it manually. Thanks for your help ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final

Hi, what you have to do is go to the folder properties then on the tab "sharing" select share this folder and set the permissions with the "permissions". If you want anyone on your LAN to access make sure to enable the Guest account which is disabled by default. Hope this helps .. ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final

Jdulmage, You should try this one to have Dos game work on W2K, it did work for me : After a Fresh install of W2K open up your computer, Find the Hard Drive (well, if you know what it is!!) and Write on it "DOS" with a stamper, then on the IDE or SCSI connector betwn your drive and motherboard/card write "this way --> for DOS" with a red stamper. Now reboot and all your Dos game will now where to go and therefore work !! ------------------ Config: Dual celeron 400 on BP6 128 Mo SDRAM PC 100 Rage fury 32Mo, SB Live Player IBM 20Go U66,DVD A103S,Yamaha 4*4*16*: IDE Win2000 Final
