Nope. VDMSound doesn't work with BUILD games using SFX very well if at all. You must use XP's sound for BUILD games. Test between XP & VDMSound however and you'll see that VDMSound supports alot more games/emulation. Namely DMA 5/Joysticks support/Adlib/Roland/Better SB emulation on the whole. It's nice that XP supports BUILD games I really love that for I have been pissed off about not being able to get sound in NT for Duke for a looooonnngg time.

Quote: I have to disagree.. I myself have been running Win2k since Beta 1, and well, to this day, to make the system stable enough to play games, i have to do a TON of tweaking. It's not just games though, I use it for my virtual office applications as well. Now, on the same system, with the same hardware, I put WinXP in, and boom, rock solid since Beta 1, never had to tweak it or fiddle with different settings, try this and try that - "out of the box" I have yet to get this XP to lock up, freeze, crash, take a dump, whatever you want to call it. Until XP I was not a big MS fan, but they have earned my respect with this OS. My machine has been running the best it ever has, and I thank MS for that. We are not disagreeing about 2k home users upgrading to XP. Of course. What we are talking about is the "market" for XP. The common ammount of users WILL be New Pc's. I can 100% guarantee you that an "average" home user with 95/98 who "upgrades" to XP will have so many problems they might as well buy a brand new computer which is the recommended suggestion for that situation.

Nope. I *think* XP supports Vesa a little bit more than 2K but in actuall use. Not really.

The sound emulation in XP is very inferior to VDMSounds. Although XP seems to run BUILD (Duke3d/Blood/Shadow Warrior) engine games just fine with sound. So you'll really need both programs to play games under XP for the full gaming experience. Hopefully Vlad can get BUILD engine games working with sound under NT4/2K.

The computer knowledable running 9x (are they then really knowledgeable? ) will upgrade to XP. This market isn't very big tho so new PC's will be the market that XP excels in.

That problem I can explain! The memory setting do apply! But ONLY for the .pif that the executable goes to. When you do a start/run/cmd it uses the _default.pif in the \winnt or \windows directory (for XP). Simply modify the _default.pif and config.nt/autoexec.bat to alter your memory settings.

Yep, I've never had any problems with MW3.
-
It lies in \winnt it's hidden & compressed and named $NtServicePackUninstall$

Nope. IIRC, only MIDI works. Sound locks it up. Will re-verify tonight. The only 100& best way to get it working is to boot into DOS or run it under Connectix Virtual PC. These ways give you full sound & VESA support.

This isn't going to help but: I have been able to get both games working fine under Windows 2000...without sound, of course, because NTVDM does not support sound. They SHOULD work fine WITH sound with this program: http://ntvdm.cjb.net/ (This program enables sound under NTVDM boxes for DOS games). I have not verified if they work with VdmSound but I do know that they work fine without any tampering with memory settings in Windows 2000. Just extract and run the .exe Now as for NT4....that's a different story. I haven't tried those games under NT4 so I'll see if I can find the time to do so. I do not see why they would not work however. The problem of why the games are not working could be as simple as your telling the game to use sound (which errors it out) or a messed up game.

MTU=Maximm Transmission Unit Basically it controls how many packets go out in one send. Microsoft OS's set it higher for LAN use and setting it lower for modems usually speeds things up alot. IIRC, it's set to 1500 in 9x OS's and most modem users set it to around 576.

It really doesn't matter what IP you use. The IP that you set does not "slow down" your network. It doesn't matter if it starts with a 1 or ends with a 254 those numbers mean nothing for speed. As long as the IP that you use is not shared. Also as long as you use Private IP ranges your safer on the net too. Due to private IP's being nonroutable.

Download SoundFX2000. It's included in the package.

In the Corporate sector it's usually SP1 they wait for. Heck, I know people still waiting for SP3 to install 2000! 8) 8) These are the paranoid ones tho.
-
Trust me. Your kids are going to hate it. I don't have it but it REALLY isn't worth wiping/dual-booting your machine for that one game. REALLY. If I get my hands on it I'll see if I can get it to work but I don't have it yet.

Looks to me like a system problem. Test your memory. Lower your overclock setttings. etc. etc.
-
You people are forgetting several things: Clock battery dies. Clock acts funky. CMOS is cleared. Time reset. Virus that modifies time values for XP's that have no been activated. Disables activation procedure. Having to set the clock back/forward to circumvent trialware programs, to test programs that you have created, to test expiration of certain products. The world is not perfect. There are ALOT of people who do these things. ALOT of people who do not have perfect computers with cable connections and no internet problems. PA is NOT anonymous. Any data sent from your computer can be traced back to your computer. oh and I LOVE this statement "Reviews will not have any problems with WinXP as you can use it for 30 days WITHOUT activating the product, serious reviewers will simply never register their product." SERIOUS Reviewers will be using OEM/SELECT versions. Therefore no problem.

As always this poll will win with MALE.

Hey! Where you going in the UK? I'm up here in Oxford right now!

1. Use Jdoom or one of the other new Doom engine's to play Doom 2. As for Duke Nukem 3D at the most only MIDI will work. No SFX.

Driver does work in Windows 2000. On my TNT1/Geforce 2/3

I got Partition magic 7.0 a couple of days ago but haven't tried it yet. I did see the option available tho. This is on an NTFS formatted driver in Whistler Pro. I'll test it out tonight.
-
I'll second that. The only situationw where it is unstable is if you are overclocking past the 150mhz range and have crappy memory...just like any other mobo. I've been ocking the heck out of this thing and it's STABLE!
