ehhh, The car analogy has nothing to do with computers. Computers are my business. It's extremely hard to get thousands of dollars worth of software or to get software in a certain area. Heck, I can't even get DSL/Cable in my area! On the other hand it takes me a couple of mins to find the software I want and to download it. I check it out and if the next time I spot it at the store then I buy it. I have it if I need it. That's why I download software. I'm glad for you that all of your software is 100% legit (oh yeah those Mp3's and I'm sure your using a different license for each Windows OS you own too). Another thing is. Software IS B-U-G-G-Y. There is very few software out there that is worth buying but the software that isn't has features that the software that is worth buying doesn't! Why should I shell out $300 bucks for an OS but then have to shell out a couple more for a program to manage my compressed files? Why should I have to buy an undelete program....why did MS remove support for undelete anyway? Why should I have to buy a separate hotfix program for my servers. MS should have this integrated. So. I download software and review it. If I deem it good then I buy it. That's why I downloaded Vmware but I actually BOUGHT Connectix Virtual PC. That's why I buy the games that I download first. Because I knew that they were good. Ah...another thread wasted on pointless discusion. Blah.

Remove unnecessary programs/update drivers. Some programs use drivers that use the Kernel. Git rid of 'em! -
Quote: Humm, shows the level of the board then doesn't it? What you are saying is on one hand this is a professionally run board but on the other you are more than willing to help thieves with their criminal activities. This isn't *****bashers.com. It's Ntcompatible.com . What he's saying is that we're here to help people not bash 'em and you should know darn well that in this business you HAVE to aquire products in an "illegal" fashion to be able to help someone.

This has been bother me for awhile but I haven't said anything.... Since we get so much news and since the paragraphs are so big: 1. Make the front page longer for more news. 2. Scrunch the news into more paragraphs. Check out www.arstechnica.com to see what I'm talking about. They have their paragraphs nice and neat while these are kind of strung out. 3. A little arrow at the bottom to go back one day or more?

Modify it using the registry by going to start/run/regedit and then going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Micrisoft Windows or place the following into a name.reg file and import it into the registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "Shell"="Explorer.exe"

Games should not run slower/faster in XP vs 2k if you've tweaked your system right. Via drivers/Nvidia drivers/latest drivers for all hardware. All benchmarks are the same here. I think people who report slower/faster performance don't really do much with their system and do not set it up properlu.

Don't use the Whistler App kit in Windows 2000. Use the 2k App kit 1.5 for Windows 2000 for now. I'm currently analyzing the diff between 2k Compatibility & XP Compatibility. So far it looks like 2k has 130 compat options while XP has 184. Going to play around with porting it to 2k tonight.

Once you see that XP boot you'll definetly start thinking more about Linux. (THANK YOU MICROSOFT!)

Nope. This proggy isn't GUI. Just command line like this one.

I found a freeware command line proggie some time ago that assigned processes to specific processors. I made an installation script that assigned it to the right-click menu so you can assign to different ones. I think it's still on www.freedrive.com login:ntcompatible pass:ntcompatible or login:ntcompatible1 pass:ntcompatible1

Eddie I dunno what graphics card you used for those benchmarks but with a GF3 and a 1ghz P3 I get about 7558 3dmarks in 3Dmark 2000. Just in case you wanted to know.

The M64's are listed in the .inf's but I highly doubt that Nvidia has done much in the way of troubleshooting problems with such old cards. Try the new 8.04's at www.maxreboot.com they might help.
-
The 8 det's are supposedly optimized for DX7. Since 3Dmark 2000 is a DX7 benchmark that makes since but I bet 3Dmark 2001 sees an increase too.

2000 does not suck for video encoding cards. ATI does however and most likely always will. Hauppauge cards work fine in 2000 however.
