I usually.... Share out the local printer onto the network. (Setting up permissions as well). Log into the TS server as admin and connect to the shared printer. Log off the TS server and then logon to the TS server as the user. Connect to the network share of their computer. This is a small business with very few local printers attached so I can get away with doing this.

Relevance of Application to OS
DosFreak replied to mezron's topic in CompatDB.org Feedback & Suggestions
I see nothing wrong with submitting compatibility reports for the OS they were designed for. So what if the application was supposedly designed for the OS. It doesn't mean that the application will actually work. The Compatibility Database is about more than what's supposed to work, it's about listing people's issues with applications\games on whatever OS and what they did to fix the problem. arrg, started my little excel compatibility list back in mid 1999. You have me beat in time and size of database Phillip! /Shakes fist But I will say that my list is far more accurate than NTCompatibles because I have gone through each and every game on the list and tested them myself. The only possibility for error is the fact of the ever changing state of PC hardware/software....err...which is pretty big.... -

Bought a WD 500GB SATA HD yesterday to replace my internal 120GB PATA Game drive I bought back in 2002. Mmm, 500gb of space. Time to fill it up! -
Experiencing the same behavior with an XP desktop at work and one of my users called me today about his XP laptop. Great MS, first we had the Beta 2 ver of Defender erroring out on bootup and now definitions don't install. Sigh. I'd say the best fix is to uninstall this POS program......
-
I've seen this happen on XP as well occasionally. I usually go to windowsupdate and download the definitions and I think it works then. IIRC, there's also a command line command you run in your Defender directory that removes all definitions and redownloads the definitions again.

Your using the Microsoft approved drivers for your video card which do not include the OpenGL ICD. You need to download the Nvidia drivers for your card from the Nvidia website.

New card, unfortunately.

My login works at both new sites so there shouldn't be a problem.

Nice. Hopefully we'll get alot more submissions now. We'd better considering that's pretty much what this is about! I'm suprised that the NTCompatible database is so small but I guess I shouldn't be. The OSX database is pitifully small since it just started of course. I don't plan to merge my list with NTCompatible's for quite awhile yet but once I do the lists should be alot more even across NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista Currently 2800 games and counting for my list. Heck, eventually I plan to go back to NT 3.x and I still can get some Win95 games working in NT4 using Vmware/VPC. Phillip, Do you see any reason to add 9x to the list? I've added 98 to my list because I plan on going back and testing the games I have that do not work in ANY version of NT and making sure that's it's an OS problem and not a game problem, also it's nice to have if you want to setup an older machine. LOL see this thread: http://www.compatdb.org/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/35163/page/1#Post35163 I still think it would be a good idea. If not for immediate usefullness it would be usefull for historical reasons, also it wouldn't hurt to add the categories.

SFC /scannow or do a repair install
-
Hmm, I think that's a hack to the registry. I don't believe register/unregister is there by default. I could be wrong though. I do not have LSL7 so I cannot really help. Try posting on the VUGames forum in the appropriate section or over @ VOGONS http://vogons.zetafleet.com You'll have a better chance of getting your problem fixed there.

My friends computer restarts when she is playing CS 1.6 for a long time
DosFreak replied to spartan1o5's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Open the side of the case and try playing the game. If no problems then you need better cooling. Also download memtest86+ and test your memory, although usually memory errors do not cause reboots. -
Did you load the SATA drivers from your controller manufacturer or are you using the SATA drivers included in Vista?
-
If you have SP2+ installed then there is a slayerui.dll file on your computer. Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B279792
-
2k does have compatibility mode. It's been a long time since I did it but search your \WINNT directory for slayerui.dll and then do a regsvr32 slayerui.dll. Now if you create a shortcut to the games's executable and then right-click and go to properties then you'll see compatibility mode. (Unlike XP/2003/Vista 2k's compatibility mode will only show up on shortcuts).

Dual-boot, driveletters, and formatting
DosFreak replied to packman's topic in Everything New Technology
The Active partition is the one where the system boot files (NTLDR,NTDETECT.COM,BOOT.INI) are located. It must be the first partition on your HD unless your using a 3rd party boot manager to manage your partitions. I've never had a problem editing Boot.ini if the system isn't bootable since I have my handy BartPE disc. IIRC, you cannot open a text editor from the XP Recovery console but running BOOTCFG should find all instances of NT installed and add them to your boot.ini so that should work fine. -
Like anything it depends on your current situation. Type of computer you currently have If your applications work fine on Vista If you use your computer enough to justify using Vista If you feel like bothering to learn the quirks of a new OS. etc, etc.

Vista will replace the old boot menu with a new one. By default it will boot into Vista but you will have the option to boot into XP in the menu.
