Wrong. D3D is fine in NT. It's the drivers that make the difference. I would hardly call 40fps in 2048X1536 in UT "shite". (in D3D)

Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?
DosFreak replied to lager_brains's topic in Customization & Tweaking
SP3 for NT5 will come out. SP's for NT OS'S usually take around 6+ months time. SO expect SP3 sometime around then. Althought SP7 for NT4 is not coming out hotfixes for the OS are still being released! I'm not happpy that they are not releasing SP7 but at least they are still supporting it. Also NT4 came out in '96. The last SP for NT4 ame out in 99. That's 3 years of supporting NT4 with SP's. I think we can expect at keast that much support for 2000. -
Depends on what you wanna do. The smaller the cluster size the more efficient usage of space. But file activity is slower. The larger the cluster size the less efficient usage of space but the file activity is faster. If not doing video work or large file transfers then it's best to leave at Windows default.

Supposedly XP Personal only supports 1 processor. Oh well doesn't matter. Most game developers in a year will be using XP Pro for game making anyway and thanks to AMD everybody with duallies will be using XP Pro! haha!

Multiple BG2 dialogue X2. Cut out about 1/4 of the action and you have Planescape Torment.

Software firewall w/ router; is it needed?
DosFreak replied to SnapperOne's topic in Customization & Tweaking
heh. They actually told you that their router was a firewall? Bwahahah. Well I guess I'll just take down my Sidewinder and just use my router then. ;( -
That's just DX6 Media runtime. Not Directx6.

I've never experienced the refresh rate prob but there's a prog on tweakfiles.com

One of those apps is eating up your memory. Try logging off and logging back in instead of rebooting and see if that fixes it.

Baldur's Gate 2 of course.

The 7.xx do not support the extra Geforce 3 features. The 12.xx do. -
1. Diskeeper is crap. IIRC, it requires more disk space for it's defragmentation than Norton Speedisk. 2. The files in the TEMP folder can be deleted by sometimes they will be in use. Ex. If your using Office or installing a program then these programs use the TEMP directory for extraction. 3. Nope, setup programs are not needed. Don't delete 'em tho. Geesh, Imagine downloading the latest X-isle demo, installing it and then deleting it! 8) 8)

Yeah, this method of talking is pretty slow. Unfortunately no ICQ/AIM for me. Could do email tho.

Well it's pretty bare in the applications that it has. Redhat/Mandrake include ALOT of different programs that can introduce ya to what's out there. Plus they are alot more informative. heh. A linux kernel on a floppy is small and does what you want it to do too but it isn't going to teach you much.

I had problems with the install freezing when installing to an HD that was SLAVE to another Ide. Make sure your installing to primary. You could also try the newest ver of Redhat. It's 4cd's tho if you want all the stuff. But the install is pretty cool and about as neat looking as Mandrake's.

What error do you get? I don't have the game but have you tried the fixes in the Whistler Application Compatibility Toolkit?

Also surfin 3dfiles, connectix, ars, matrox, ntcompatible forums.... Basically Just killin' time until I get off of work so I can test those 12.60 drivers. What Linux would anyone recommend since i want to try to lea

Mandrake 8.0 Then Redhat. I'm trying to get back into Linux myself. I've installed Mandrake 8.0 on my 40gb drive but haven't found time for it with all of the beta testing I'm doing. Luckily I have a Sidewinder firewall at work which uses a bastardized version of BSD. So That helps me fine tune my linux skillz. There really isn't much to it if you have a strong DOS background. It also helps to print out the documentation. FIRST THING: GO TO THE VERY BACK AND TRY OUT THE COMMANDS ONE BY ONE. Pick what you find interesting at first and read the documentation for each command. That is the very best way to become 733t at linux. -
Yup. Waaassssuuupp?

Thars your answer then.

What's in your startup? Nvidia?
-
Yes it has Msconfig. No it doesn't have the crappy winipcfg. Still ipconfig. THANK YOU. You did ONE thing right with XP Microsoft! WOW!

It's probably WFP. Clear the event log. Reinstall Office. Check Event log again and note the errors.
