OHH SNAP my Dual 1.02 gigahertz PIII just got spanked I knew
DosFreak replied to JimmyK's topic in Hardware
Like I said. Right now Dual P3's are the best solution for Windows 2000. Since the dual Athlon's are not out and won't really be out until the middle of this year they really will not have matured until this Christmas. This Christmas they WILL have to mature because the SMP P4's will be out in force. P4's will be up to 2ghz by then and will be a pretty big force to reckon with. Right now for gamers it's the video card that's holding us back. My lil' Geforce 2 GTS is HEAVILY fillrate limited. I have TOO much processing power for games. Although the extra processing power of a dual Athlon would be nice it's hardly worth it to pump cash into an unoptimized most likely buggy system. Me...well I'm waiting more for the NV20 than for Dual P4/Athlons's. I will get dual 2ghz next christmas too. -

I'm keeping my Dual P3-700E@933 until next christmas. I'd rather have an EXCELLENT motherboard (VP6) with so-so memory than a crappy motherboard with good memory. Heck, those benchmarks may be nice but real-world performance is where it's at. Compare SMP scores to Non-SMP and I'd rather stay with SMP. I'll be getting dual 2ghz P4's next year. -

Do not use the 7.xx drivers. Use 6.34-6.67. 6.67 are the latest. Even newer than 7.xx. [This message has been edited by DosFreak (edited 05 February 2001).] -
Nope. Lemme know if you find a way tho.

Fat32 doesn't support partitions over 32gb. NTFS is 2Tera I think. Fat32 doesn't support filesizes past 4GB. NTFS supports far more than that. FAT32 has no security. NTFS Has ALOT of security. FAT32 is more prone to data error. NTFS is less prone. NTFS supposedly has more overhead than FAT32 but it's very very very very slight if there is one.

I too think August is more realistic. Take a look at previous MS OS releases.

Please don't tell me your using Realtime. Please.

Have you turned off any of the services lately?

I have a VP6 and do not have this problems nor I have I heard of other people with VP6's with this problem. Something is up with your system. Remove everything hardware wise that is not necessary and try to pinpoint the problem. I am EXTREMELY pleased with my VP6.

Windows 2000 Pro on installation takes up 651m. This does not include the swap file.

Wow. What planet do you live on? A day to people living on earth is 24 hours. Must I explain the reason why? To answer your question use the 6.67 drivers.
-
Exactly. It's a beta. Hold off on conclusions about the OS until it's done. But feel free to post your opinions.

Turn off the extra animation crap.

6.67 are the latest. Use 'em.

It could also be dirty AC power. For instance I live in the Dorms here in the UK. There is one big transformer for the entire dorms so we can use both 50/60hz power. Before I had my 300W plugged into a surge protector into Dorm power. I was getting strange power related problems. I "borrowed" a Transformer from work to convert UK power to US power in my room and all my power issue went away!

Works fine on a friends computer that I put both on 2 days ago. I used the cracks for both tho. -
I never had any probs with PC Tools ver 6.0. With Qemm 9.0 I think I got my convention to either 631 or 634k! 8) 8)

Dual P4's should be out the end of this year. Hopefully 2ghz+. Man if they have 'em out end of this year I will definetly pick one up. My Dual P3700E@933 is starting to look a little slow.

Exactly. In a perfect world it would be nice to share all information with people. It would lead to better understanding and it would help the user out ALOT. Unfortunately this is NOT the perfect world (far from it). Online stores get hacked, Offline stores get robbed, Software is Pirated, Companies charge more for software/hardware than they should, etc, etc, etc. It would be nice if for every single piece of software there was a BIG checkbox that stated: "Do you EVER want to send private information over the internet? Check YES or NO?" WOW! What a genius idea! I am so brilliant it is astounding.
