So your telling me on your magical Whistler beta 1's that the GUI is not more laggy than Windows 2000's. Wow, you people are very inobservant. Just drag your mouse down to the start button or do a Ctrl+Esc. Time it. Very laggy compared to 2000. Three letters. G-U-I. SLLLOOOOWWW

DosFreak replied to Topshelf's topic in Hardware
Hmmm, haven't played around with dynamic disks. I've read up on them but never found the time to experiment. Gonna get some new hardware tho. 3 IBM 40gs' (2 40gs in raid). I'll get to play around with it then. YAY! -

??? So you had 2 40gigs set in Raid 0 and then you adding a 60g drive to the config? I'm not sure how you set this up. Anyways the way Raid 0 (actually AID since there is no R) is that to put it simply half of the data is written to one HD and the other half the other HD. So yes....your data is lost. -
*Need for Speed High Stakes INSTALL Use QfixApp on NFSHS.exe and click "2GbGetDiskFreeSpace.dll" Click the "Advanced" tab. Then click "Create attributes file". Then go to the AppPatch folder in the Windows folder and click on NFSHS.reg Now run the game and you will not receive that error message anymore! Reinstall this .reg if you reinstall windows! GAME If you can only play the game in Software mode then copy the following lines into a text file: _____________________________________________ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes] "Version"="4.00" "InstallPath"="F:\\Games\\Need For Speed High Stakes" "3D Device Description"="" "3D Card"="" "Thrash Driver"="d3da" "Group"="D3D" "D3D Device"=dword:00000001 "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000001 "Hardware Acceleration"=dword:00000001 "Thrash Resolution"="1024X768" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes\1.0] "Language"=dword:00000001 "Variant"=dword:00000000 "InstLev"=dword:00000002 "SrcDrive"="G:\\" _____________________________________ Copy everything inside the ______! Now make the appropriate changes for your configuration. For instance, if your video card card not handle Triple Buffering then modify the "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000001 line to "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000000. If you want to play in a different resolution then modify 1024X768 to whatever resolution you wish. If your NFHS CD is in a different CDROM then change the "G:\\" to the letter of your CDROM Drive. Once your changes have been made then save the file as NFSHS.REG. Now double-click on the file and merge it into your registry. You can now play NFSHS in D3D and in Hi-Res! If you get "Your hard drive has less than 1MB free space." Then Use QfixApp on NFSHS.exe and click "2GbGetDiskFreeSpace.dll" Click the "Advanced" tab. Then click "Create attributes file". Then go to the AppPatch folder in the Windows folder and click on NFSHS.reg Now run the game and you will not receive that error message anymore! Reinstall this .reg if you reinstall windows!

-
No. You can in 2000 tho.

Are you running 2000 in ACPI? If so turn it off. Your other CPU is probably peaked at 1000%.

Make sure the RPC services are started.

Yes, the link is on the main page. I haven't done a complete test of each game. My tests currently are get game to install and run game. If it runs it runs. Then I move on to the next. Haven't done alot of testing with VDMSOUND because the current version is only really good with MIDI. I'm waiting for the next ver. No biggie. Most of my DOS games I played with speaker back in the day.

Insert 2000 CD. Install. If you have less than 32m of memory edit the TXTSETUP.SIF file in the I386 directory and change the RequiredMemory line from 33030144 to a lower value.

Ground control works right out of box with messed up sound. Latest patch fixes it. Always go to Windows update before playing new games.
