    Homeworld 2 on Vista

I installed it last night (just for you ) and I noticed that it switched resolution while it tried to start the game....but the Windows debug tools gave me an error like it was a cd copyprotection problem. (The game uses SecuRom). I didn't try a NOCD cr*ck because I was pretty PO'd that the game wasn't working right off the bat and didn't feel like doing anything further but you may want to try that. (It most likely won't do anything though because usually the game won't even try to execute if it's a copy protection problem). I might mess around with it this weekend if I get bored.

    Homeworld 2 on Vista

Green= Just works (Y=Yes it works) Yellow = Has Problem (P=Problem) Red= Does not work (N=No it does not work) Purple= Uses Emulation Blue = Untested (U=Untested) I haven't tested Homeworld in Vista nor do I plan on testing it until SP1 for Vista comes out. IIRC, Homeworld uses OpenGL so make sure you have an Nvidia card and not an ATI card in Vista otherwise your in for alot of pain. If Homeworld is indeed OGL only and you only have an ATI card then your only solution will be to install the XP drivers on Vista which is not a solution since the XP drivers on Vista are highly unstable. Just play the game in XP and be happy.

    Compnay of Hereoes Win2k

Found this: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Q_21017640.html which probably won't be helpful but read this: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=107520&page=1&pp=15 Only thing I can think of is that there's a guy on the MSFN forums making a kernel update patch for 9x that allows games that didn't work on 9x (because they are 2k/XP only) to work. He could probably program somthing up if he wanted to but I doubt he'll bother, he seems to have his hands full with 9x. This is the only game I've heard of that actually requires XP. The other "doesn't work under 2k" problems were just installshield restrictions.

    Final Fantasy 8 CD Problem

Read this thread: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/final-fantasy-vii-viii-pc-t1446.html Also you may have to get a NOCD patch for the game. Can't tell you where to get them so you'll just have to google.

You can download a demo of Acronis that will let you know if it can see your controller.
  9. Bough a 500GB Western Digital SATA drive and a Nexstar 3 ESATA External Enclosure. Just need to buy half a dozen more to transition over from all of my 120/200/250gb external USB drives. Also bought a Western Digital Raptor 160gb SATA for my ol' nforce 2 mobo in preparation for when I build my new computer soon.

    Windows 2003 Server

errr, when the first hard disk becomes "corrupt" the second hard disk will also. RAID doesn't protect against software failures only hardware failures. So the usual "Windows messing up due to software update, moving mouse, etc" will not protected by RAID, only hard drive failure. If your hardware supports RAID it's best to use that instead of 2003 software RAID. (There are actually situations where software RAID may be superior in some situations tho).

What's the problem? My HL1 has always worked on XP (non steam infected version). Does it give any error message?

    How to Reformat Hard Drive

All that matters is the that you have the license and that you use your own CD key (for activation). Problem is that if he has an OEM copy an you have different computers from different companies then your key probably won't work.

    Call of Duty error message

You need a decent video card. Either ATI or NVIDIA. Preferably NVIDIA. Call of Duty System Requirements http://callofduty.filefront.com/info/Requirements

Champship Manager 2 using Dosbox and Dbent

I've never really used the frontends but when you mount a drive in DosBox it only shows 110m as being available for hard drive free space. (It's set so low for older games). You can use the --fresspace XX option with the mount command to increase the amount of free space that DosBox sees. Where XX=amount of freespace in MB Example: mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 999

    Dungeon Keeper 2 Video Problem

Yeah Sis never made good graphics cards. Have you tried the different command line options that DK2 has? IIRC there's one to set the video mode. I'd try setting your desktop resolution to different color depth and try reducing your video hardware acceleration.....or you could just get a cheap TNT1/2/Geforce2/Geforce4, etc.

    DOS Partition

You could install 9x and just delete the Windows dir I guess...or download the ripped version of DOS 7x off the net (Which is illegal). FreeDOS may support FAT32.

    need for speed 5

From everything I'm reading the i752 was a very poor graphics accelerator (not suprising since it's Intel). If you can pick up a cheap TNT1/2 or something then that would be light years better.

What kind of video card do you have?

    DOS Partition

You can't unless you use a boot partition manager to hide your NTFS C:. MS-DOS requires to be install on your "C:" parition. Also MS-DOS 6.22 only supports FAT16 which can only supports 2GB partitions. You'll need FAT32 (only supported on 95b+) to support larger partitions.

Return to Krondor & Betrayal in Antara- can't play

Where do you see this "cannot read from device" error message? I was doing Windows 2003 game compatibility testing this weekend and installed Betrayal at Krondor just fine and rane it. I've also run Betrayal in Antara and Betrayal at Krondor in XP as well. Hopefull we can fix this problem.....hopefully a reinstall won't be necessary.

    Windows Defender + Windows 2000

There is no incompatibility. I've been using Defender Beta 2 on Windows 2000 since it came out. (It was actually stated by MS that Defender would run on Windows 2000, I'll see if I can find where they stated that). Yep, the Defender installed fine, the scan ran and finished. ORCA is just an Windows Installer editor. (Windows Installer being the program that Defender is packaged in). It looks like MS packaged Defender and simply stated a requirement of XP/2003 and anything less than that will not install. Unless that is you remove the requirement using Orca. Yes, It's pretty hard for MS to make programs incompatible with Windows 2000 since 2000 and XP are pretty much the same OS in many ways. In this case (and in many others) it's just a matter of removing the requirement from the installer.

    Spam blocking options and opinions

What email service does she use? I use gmail and I receive tons of spam but it all goes in the spam folder. I barely ever get any spam in my Inbox. I don't even worry about hiding this email address either. For my work email we use Microsoft Frontbridge which does a fairly decent job but it still let's in those botnet .gif/stock emails. (I have to block those ip's manually).

    Unlock

Did you unplug your computer as well? You don't have to wait long (if at all), I usually wait 30 seconds. If that doesn't work then your going to have to hunt down the jumper on your motherboard that will wipe the CMOS.
