Yep, It's all about the RAM babee. Disable some services and you should be able to lower that amount. 2000 doesn't care about the processor. 486 is a minimum.

Stick around jdulmage. Sadly Opposition makes us stronger. Just lower the flames ok?!

This GlDuke isn't playable. Basically you can just get a look at how far along they are. (about 50%).

Tell him not to run Windows 2000 setup from Windows. Boot off of the CD. That's the best way to do it.
-
Yeah, I can't remember the speed of the ram. That was before my hardware days. I was a software freak. Didn't become software/hardware till '95. Ah well, I guess when I go visit my cousin I'll check up on mu ol' 286.

You do not want to upgrade ME. You want to dual-boot. So ignore those 2000 messages. They are telling you what will happen if you UPGRADE. Insert the 2000 Disc and boot from it then install to a secondary partition.

"The AVERAGE user has proven it" Hmmm, guess all those beta testers are AVERAGE users. heh.

Sure delete 'em. Just don't come complaining to use if you don't shut down your computer correctly or if ya BSOD and 2000 tries to get the backup file out of the dllcache folder....
-
GET MORE MEMORY. Why bother telling ya when your just going to stick more ram into it anyway and if you don't you sure as heck won't be using that computer with 20m of ram. Open the txtsetup.sif file and edit the RequiredMemory line to whatever value you wish. I hope that's correct. Been awhile since I did it. Have fun.

In my testing PRO & ADVANCED SERVER ran exactly the same.

I have the Technet versions but I need to know if they are the same as the ones you buy. Are they? They look full to me.

The Support Tools on the Windows 2000 CD are very limited. While organizing my Technet CD Case I was suprised to see the 2000 Resource PRO Kit and the SERVER Resource Kit. The SERVER Resource Kit has everything the PRO does so there is no reason to install the PRO. As far as I can tell they are full and who needs a book anyway? I'm gonna have some fuuuunnnn tonight looking through the goodies.

Yes, 9x has user profiles. They are not as locked down as NT but they can have their own desktop settings.
-
? Just insert the CD and GO! Not much to it.

You guys crack me up. Praising Whistler and dissing Windows 2000 when it's just Windows 2000 with more stuff. ;( Preach on Whistler fanatics. ;(
-
Also if your going RAID and using 64gb FAT32 is a waste, a security risk, and more prone to disk error. Go with 2000 & NTFS.

Look on the promise website and you will find what you need. I've researched this issue before and it's on there somewhere.
