heh. That thread is really weird with all of the APK posts removed.

Hmmm, I've noticed the home licensing issue come up in a couple of blogs. Alot of people have suggested to MS to offer discounts and such for home users but it doesn't look like they are going to go through with it. Latest conspiracy rumour is that PC manufacturers want to sell PC's....which come with Vista, so they are trying to get people to buy new PC's. Sounds pretty weak to me, it's probably just the usual MS oversight.

I've just been looking through alot of the old posts and when 2000 came out the forums were jumping all over that....same thing with XP and to a small degree 2003........Visa....almost nothing. WTF? Come on people it's New, Bright and Shiny! You should be all over it people! Hello? Sadly I'll be using Vista since I'm a Network Administrator and I have to use it to support my users. (Thankfully we won't be deploying it to our users for another 2 years!! Woohoo!). For personal use I'll be using it as I've been using Windows for quite awhile.....just for gaming/testing for my users/ and for application compatibility testing. For Home/work desktop it'll be Linux when I can and Windows when I have to. It's a good thing I have MSDN because I personally like the last Windows releases will not be buying it. (Last Windows release I actually bought was 98SE....All Windows releases since then have been work copies).

Hmmm, can't help ya there. I always played Mercenaries in DOS since the Windows ver was crappy.
-
Hmm, you could play the Windows versions under Microsoft Virtual PC, Vmware or Qemu. You can play the DOS versions under DosBox just fine.

Are you using an LCD monitor? If so then IIRC, C&C for Windows runs @ 640x480 resolution which your monitor may not support. Check your monitor documentation for an option for scaling older games to your native resolution.

FF7 is not a DOS game.

I've been using 250GB drives in Windows 2000 since 2002 so yeah it works. As for Ghost and External USB drives. I mostly use Acronis and that works fine. The last time I did bother to use Ghost was with Ghost32 on BARTPE and of course that worked. I can't say if other versions of Ghost will work fine or not....although I'm sure the DOS version will work fine with the appropriate DOS USB driver loaded.

Windows 2000 16-bit Subsystem (NTVDM.EXE) Broken?!

Thanks for replying back! -
At work I've just been blocking the IP's. We do use Frontbridge (Microsoft SPAM blocking solution), so they may be blocking some of those types of emails but until I started blocking all of those foreign IP's I would get the above emails constantly every day.

Not sure if what you were download was legal or not. I'm assuming not. Thread closed

ummm, describe the problem with each game.

XP will work fine. Throw at least another 256meg of ram in there and you'll be fine. I'd keep 98SE as a dual-boot tho.
-
Hmmm, It would probably be best to use an installshield decompression program and just extract the files directly. Considering how messed up that copy sounds I would recommend just buying another copy.

I don't know of any such software. The laptops have a parallel port but not a serial port? Could always get a USB->Serial adapter or just use the docking station.

People use IE to browse these forums?

Turok 2 doesn't use copy protection does it? If so then what you described sounds like the typical problems with game copy protection.

What kind of sound card do you have? Does your OS or any other games ever give you any problems?

Nice. I really like the forum but I wonder how it looks to a "newbie". I like the fact that all of the buttons are actually labeled instead of using images. For instance in firefox I usually get rid of the picture for the functions like "Back", "Forward", "Refresh" and replace them with text. I guess it's the DosFreak in me......

Phillip, could the signature be expanded to allow for greater than 100 characters? I link to webpages like the below "How to ask questions the smart way", in my sig but cannot on this site. The below sig takes up 96 characters.

Don't have Turok 2 (the full game), but I do have the demo and it works fine. So when you start the game it doesn't throw up any error messages or anything? As for the compatibility feature in 2000/XP/2003/Vista. It actually does alot, but it can only do what it's programmed to do. It's not magic.

Downloading copyrighted games isn't legal. Go ask somewhere else.
