You can try running "loadfix" before running the installer. (This eats up conventional memory). or you can try specifying a smaller HD free size in DOSBox. (By default DOSBox shows around 600meg). mount c c:\Games -freesize 100

Alot of older games require the CD to be in the first CD drive. So you have a physical D: drive then that's where the CD needs to be. So either change the virtual drive letter to D: or burn the ISO to CD and stick it in D:

Bought 2 1GB PCI express cards for my XPS M1330 (Only has 100Meg NICS that are flaky as hell). File transfers to my server are now fast and reliable! Thinking about getting that ATI 5870..... -
Can't help you with NOCD fixes here. GOG.com sells the the game. No DRM.

Using the onboard SATA controller but just using it for ports not for RAID. Using gigabit on both the server and my desktop. I briefly thought today that something was wrong with the server because file transfers were extremely slow. Turns out it's the POS NIC in the XPS M1330. Compared it to another E5400 laptop and my desktop and file transfer were normal. I've noticed this same behavior previously with two other XPS M1330's. -

Bought 6 2TB HD's to replace the 6 1TB HD's in my home file server. Went from ICH10 RAID5 to ZFS RAIDZ2 Also went from Windows 2008 Server to FreeNAS. Finally finished copying 4TB of data back to it last night. -

1. ONLY download DirectX from Microsoft. Not some strange site. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en 2. If you are using Windows XP then it does not support DirectX 10 (you can't download it anyway it comes with Vista/7) 3. If you have a crappy video card then the game will not work. It likely MUST support DX8/9. 4. Read these threads: http://ntcompatible.com/THE_SIMS_2_DIRECTX_9.0C_ERROR_MESSAGE_HELP_URGENT_t33674.html http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread30238-1.html

Copy all of the files from the CD to your hard drive and try to install from there.
-
Right-click on "My Computer" and go to "Manage", go to Disk Management. Right-click on the partition of your drive and assign it a drive letter.

Sound issues are usually caused by: Cycles too low or too high. Sound card drivers and/or crappy sound card. Sound card chosen in game configuration. Need to play around with: rate, blocksize, buffer amounts in dosbox.conf.

Well it doesn't sound like you are interested in trying to fix it. So give it to someone you know who can, give it to the Geek Squad, or junk it and buy a new one.

Read the error code on the BSOD and try to fix it.
