Vice City was probably coded for a specific version of mss32.dll, you can't just use any ver. I would post the specific ver that Vice City uses but I don't like stealing games. So your out of luck. Thread Closed.

Hmmm, you'll probably need to replace NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM in C:\ from the 2003 CD. Be sure to make backups of the old files before you do.

Windows98Se Laptop Fat32 and External Hd 300gb Ntfs with files Need to convert
DosFreak replied to Karaoke Guy's topic in Legacy OS
Okay, so you: 1. "Upgraded" your 98 laptop to XP. EEk! Hope you didn't actually do an upgrade. 2. Used Partition Magic on a new drive to create a FAT32 partition. Not sure why you did this, could have just used FDISK, but no matter it was probably easier for you with PM. 3. Transferred data from NTFS drive to FAT32 drive. 4. Took drive over to 90 computer, FAT32 drive does not work. Okay, so know you want to know how to wipe that drive (hopefully you still have the original data on the NTFS drive?). You could do it either through PM or through FDISK. Just load up fdisk from command prompt, delete extra partitions, create a new partition. It's probably easier for you to use PM tho. FDISK is included with all versions of Windows 9x. -
In the c:\windows\repair directory copy the files config.nt and autoexec.nt to c:\windows\system32 Finally don't post questions like these in someone else's post, your post has nothing to do with their post and it's harder to help you since people will have to skip past tons of posts just to see your post.

Sounds like it's in PAL. Install the latest Nvidia drivers, go intro the control panel for it and adjust the settings. Can't give ya exact directions because I'm using an ATI card.

Shadow Warrior Source was just released GPL so yeah, it happens.

No need to be sad about no DNF. The Shadow Warrior Source Code has been released! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/sh...p;page=0#814283 Now to find a copy of Shadow Warrior since I lost mine back in the long ago.

Well before using Partition Magic it's recommended that you back the data up. I personally wouldn't use it on an HD that I didn't have a backup for but if you like risk..... -
I would say something....but it's all been said before....even what I am typing now. Dangit.
-
"load quickly" Are you talking about boot time or some sort of application?

Found this: http://www.dp9.com/Funhouse/HG2fix.htm Haven't tried out anything in there yet but it does explain some of the CRC errors.

Just wanted to post that in beta vers of DosBox (CVS) you can now load up Mechwarrior 2 (Not Mercs) as an .ISO and not have to use a cd crack. So it is being worked on. If you don't know what a CVS is then don't worry about, continue to use the cd crack.

Supposedly FAT32 can go up to 2 terabytes. Hopefully noone will ever have to test this.... Microsoft recommends using NTFS for partitions greater than 32gb. When you go beyond 32gb the cluster size is bumped up wich wastes more space. You'd probably be better off organizing the drive into 32gb chunks or creating just a single 32gb partition and leaving the rest NTFS. If you wish to simply retrive some files but not write to the drive you can free a free NTFS Read-Only driver from sysinternal. If you wish to have write-access you'll have to pay for it. -
That's good info, interesting.... Instead of switching back to DX6 (other games will require DX9) you might be better off sticking the DX6 files in the Heavy Gear 2 directory. It's hard to say what's making it black screen but I'd start with an DX6 file that has to do with D3D. So try any DX6 file that begins with D3D and placing them in your HG2 directory.

You'd be better off using Winpe/BartPe with GhostPE or Acronis True Image.
-
Been awhile since I used Ghost DOS with USB CDR's. Not sure which one I used but try these: http://www.stefan2000.com/darkehorse/PC/DOS/Drivers/USB/ You may have to do some internet searching if the links don't work.
-
Acronis True Image is like Ghost. It backs up your HD onto other media such as Internet HD/External HD/CD/USB/Firewire/Tape so it can be easily restored. If you have an XP Image already created and a 98SE Image already created it's only a matter of how long it takes to restore from the media. Probly 5-10 Minutes depending on amount of data. Of course you could do a dual-boot with 98SE/XP but I prefer to have a single OS and do much of my testing using VPC/Vmware. Unfortunately there's no D3D support in VPC/Vmware so in D3D testing where a game doesn't work under 2K/XP, you have to use a dual-boot or a secondary computer.

I got an old school question on starcraft and dual computers!
DosFreak replied to fod's topic in Games
Does Starcraft check CD keys online? If so it's possibly that someone else used a keygen and is using your key. -
Well that's great. I intend to load up 98 (Using Acronis True Image makes this alot easier) and test out HG2. Hopefully I don't have the same problem that your having. Can't recommend much except to upgrade DX/Drivers. HG2 is a DX6 game....it works in 2000/XP with DX9 just fine except for the crashing problem so I doubt your problem is DX related. Check the activision support site and see if they have black screen problems with HG2. You might also want to force your refresh rate to 60hz using DXDiag, could be a refresh rate problem.

Copy the files c:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt and config.nt to c:\windows\system32 Also scan your system for viruses and spyware and upgrade your antivirus/spyware since this problem may be caused by spyware or older versions of spyware scanning software.

Is it normal for the HD to run for over a minute at reaching desktop in Win2k SP
DosFreak replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
or just load up StartUp Control Panel and stop hunting around in the registry. -

You said firewall. What firewall? The built-in one in XP SP2 or a 3rd party one? -
Quote: The only downside of this is that it may encourage new users to start a new thread about the same problem? Yep, I've been trying to figure out a good way to parse the forums for information to include in a FAQ. I've been doing this in a small amount for VOGONS but even then it's a pain. Ideally, we'd have a FAQ sort of like Arstechnica's, a long time ago I had the ability to modify their FAQ but I never kept up with it.
