still working on it. I noticed that if I die before I enter the base that I drop back to the menu just fine but if I enter the base and die the game goes black and hangs up. What is really annoying is that you cannot save in the mission so I have to replay, good thing the base isn't that far away! Going to do this a couple of times with different options/configurations and see what happens.

Weird, looks like appying Win95 mode to Heavy Gear 2 causes Instant Action to crash but not a campaign. Weird.

Some questions about Raid 5, regarding different hard drives and about XOR or In
DosFreak replied to loopdemack's topic in Hardware
Different drives can be mixed together as long as they are the same size. I personally wouldn't do it unless I had to. Due to differences in cache/possibly different RPM's, and other different HD tech, performance may suffer. For best performance/reliability always use the same drives. Look here: http://www.3ware.com/products/serial_ata9000.asp The 9500S-4LP only support 4 drives whereas the 9500S -8 supports 8. Here's a review on the 9500S-4LP http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=9500s4lp&page=1&cookie%5Ftest=1 But I guess those are out of your price range...... If I was in your situation and didn't have enough money to go with the superior 3Ware cards then I'd go with Adaptec next: Look here: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/product...ource=solutions Well backing up RAID 5 isn't that hard since the controller handles that part. The hard part is getting the imaging program to support the SCSI/PATA-addon/SATA controller. I've personally haven't used True Image with RAID 5 but I've heard it works. Whichever controller card you get you'll need to check the imaging documentation and make sure it supports that controller. -
Sweet. Figured out how to up the resolution. Heavy Gear 2\Shell\texts\options.cfg Only tried 1600x1200 (In game menu limited to 1024) so far but it works fine.

If it isn't too big could you email the savegame to me? d0sfreak@yahoo.com

Windows NT Workstation in a 2003 Domain
DosFreak replied to owDAWG's topic in Everything New Technology
In that configuration,no. You'll have to have an NT4 BDC for your old NT4 workstations and you'd have to run in 2003 mixed mode. Seeing as you only have 1 NT4 server and your probably short on servers it's best to just go with straight 2000 across the board or XP if you can. How old are the PC's with NT4? Any machine with NT4 should be able to use Windows 2000. Unless your talking 486DX4100/P100 here (It'll be pretty slow, but arguably as fast as NT4 with tweaking). Best way to test it to ghost a backup of one NT4 machine, Install Windows 2000 and see if it works well, if it doesn't then reghost your configuration back, if it does then your set! -
I've been meaning to play around with HG2, I'll take a look at it tonight.
-
What's Xplosiv? A repackaging of Heavy Gear 2? I really don't see how HG2 could be declared compatible with Windows XP since it came out in May of 1999. Windows 2000 went RTM in Dec 1999. Activision couldn't care less about an almost 6 year old game..except it appears to package it in new boxes and declare it compatible. I guess you could try the standard stuff: Reduce Video/Sound acceleration Switch out drivers. Try different patch versions. Not sure what happens in Campaign 4, been about 5-6 years since I played HG2 but it may use Smacker/Bink/Miles so you might want to replace those files. (I'll check my CD and see if it uses 'em).

Ignore the tests. Those tests are very old and do not recognize the higher memory capacity and processor speeds of newer computers.

Download WinIso or Winimage. Within those programs are the options to create an .ISO of your CD.

Nah, small black holes aren't dangerous. The black hole stuff, hawking radiation and all that is pretty interesting reading but way over my head.

The Geforce 4 MX comes in AGP/PCI forms. You said it doesn't fit into your PCI slots so it must be AGP. I can't find out the specs of that motherboard right now but it probably uses integrated AGP and doesn't offer an AGP slot. If so then you'll have to use PCI. To identify your card: Look at the part of the card that plugs into your computer. The AGP connector will have two notches in it less than a finger width apart from each other. The PCI connector will have one notch on the right of the connector. The AGP connector (Don't count the green part of the connector if it's there in the size) will also be smaller than the PCI slot.

Cannot clone IDE drive to SATA drive in same system
DosFreak replied to stormonts's topic in Hardware
Awhile back when I was ghosting between chipsets I would revert whatever IDE controller I was using to the Windows generic driver. I think it was "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller". I don't remember what the actual driver files were but looking at the pciide.sys files in 2K SP4 (which match the version you listed above), it looks like those are the generic IDE drivers and perhaps for some reason when those machines were upgraded with a new service pack they didn't get upgraded...which is why you had to add them manually. -
Well at least you know it's the computer and not the monitor. Not much to say except the standard troubleshooting stuff. 1. Make sure video card is inserted fully. 2. Take out and unplug all nonessential devices. 3. Remove and insert processor/memory. 4. Check that the mobo isn't shorting out on something. Hmmm, did you try removing the CMOS battery and unplugging your computer from the wall?

So you can't even boot into Safe Mode? You'll probably have to go into the recovery console and manually delete the old gart file.

Do the IDE drives have the SATA controller drivers installed? -
For the old DOS gamers: OpenGL ports of CLASSICS!
DosFreak replied to brainsoft's topic in Slack Space
Yeah, if you don't already use GliDOS for other games then buying GliDOS just for Blood is a waste of money. Check out DGVoodoo if you really want to try Glide Blood...I think it works. -
Soon to come, FireFox infections that update IE faster than Microsoft!

Please do not post to 5 year old threads that are someone else's problem. Post your own thread describing your problem exactly. If you want qfixapp you'll have to download the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit v4.0 located here (QfixApp is obsolete, this is the replacement/upgrade to it): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;DisplayLang=en If you don't like the Geniune Microsoft download or don't want to use IE to get a file then you can download the file here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/d...y%20Toolkit.msi With that being said you shouldn't need the ACT since the NFS5 fix is included with Windows XP already, although even tho it is in the compatibility database doesn't mean it has the fix from the above mentioned file in the case hopefully someone knows the actual fix. I haven't played this game but you'll probably need to follow the advice about gimme.dll since I've heard that fixes NFS problems. Thread closed

Blood works in XP, if you use VDMSound and NOLFB. Depending on your vide card you may also need vgafix. Also GliDOS supports Blood...don't remember if DGVoodoo does. -
Glad to hear it! Thanks for posting that it worked.

Network? XP Home is only capable of workgroup mode, if you want Domain mode I think there is a hack for it but I am unaware of how to activate it. You should be able to stick XP Home and 2000 Pro in the same workgroup and share files that way. You may need to turn off simple file sharing in XP. Go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, View, Scroll down to the bottom and unselect simple file-sharing.
