The dropship menu accesses VESA on your videocard. If NTVDM isn't allowing proper access then that can cause the drop to desktop. What SP level of Windows 2000 are you using? What video card are you using? Also try adjusting the order of NOLFB in your .BAT file. If above sapucdex then put it below. If that doesn't work then disable sound, don't use SAPUCDEX or VDMSOUND, just use NOLFB. Also try with the v1.1 patch or without.

Try up[censored] your video drivers. If it happens again, also change your desktop resolution and see if that fixes the problem. If it does then you can probably pinpoint it to your video card/drivers.

Was listening to the MIB commentary and heard this joke again....
DosFreak posted a topic in Slack Space
The joke occurs when they are in the restaurant and your heard something like "Yeah, but this one's eating my popcorn!". I'd heard that a long time ago but never bothered to look it up and unfortuntately the commentary didn't explain it so I searched the net and here it is! Quote: An old farmer went to town to see a movie. The ticket agent asked, "Sir, what's that thing on your shoulder?" The old farmer said, "That's my pet rooster, Rudy. Wherever I go, Rudy goes." "I'm sorry sir," said the ticket agent. "We can't allow animals in the theatre." The old farmer went around the corner and stuffed the bird down his pants. He returned to the booth, bought a ticket and entered the theatre. He sat down next to two old widows named Mildred and Marge. The movie started and the rooster began to squirm. The old farmer unzipped his pants so Rudy could stick his head out and watch the movie. "Marge," whispered Mildred. "What?" said Marge. "I think the guy next to me is a pervert." "What makes you think so?" asked Marge. "He unzipped his pants, and his thing is out," whispered Mildred. "Well, don't worry about it," said Marge. "At our age we've seen 'em all." "That's what I thought, too," said Mildred, "but this one's eating my popcorn!" -
Updated 2-28-2005 Check it out! Tried really hard to get the non working games to work which is why 2000 went from 90 something nonworking games to 75. That's 75 Non Working games out of 1,502!

Well the demo works for me. According to another post a NOCD patch needs to be used.

GeForce FX5600 VIVO w/ 256MB VRAM - overheating with Half-Life 2?
DosFreak replied to Phalanx-Imawano's topic in Hardware
Yeah, that 5600 is kinda puny compared to today's graphics cards. Graphics Processor: Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 Graphics Processor Codename: NV31 Graphics Core Clock Speed: 325MHz Pixel Pipelines: 4 Texture Units Per Pixel Pipeline 1 Vertex Units: 1 Pixel Shader Version: 2.0 Vertex Shader Version: 2.0 Installed Video Memory: 256MB Memory Technology: DDR SDRAM Memory Clock Speed: 250MHz Memory Bus Width: 128-bit Primary RAMDAC Clock Speed: 400MHz Eeekk, and I was hating myself for playing Doom 3 halfway through with my 9700 before getting my X800! Well, it looks like you have a somewhat decent CPU compared to what you had before (It's no Athlon but at least you have more mhz). Your probably upgrading bit by bit, X850 may be out of your price range (or any sane person) so you'd probably want to go with a lower end X800 when you do upgrade. Games for quite awhile now have been more GPU limited than CPU limited which is why you'll see little benefit in gaming going from 2ghz to 3ghz in higher resolutions, but when you go from say 5200 to x800 you'll see major increases in speed. -
GeForce FX5600 VIVO w/ 256MB VRAM - overheating with Half-Life 2?
DosFreak replied to Phalanx-Imawano's topic in Hardware
You said that while playing HL2 your videocard is hotter than when playing Doom3? Perhaps you should try underclocking your card and see if that helps. -

Problem fixed! Happened right after the forum changed. -
PCI-E is the interface of the future whereas AGP is being phased out. Currently it's not really "better" for gaming. AGP/PCI-E right now are the same performance-wise for games, but it is more future-proof.
-
You probably have too little memory. Download the latest graphics drivers from www.intel.com Also go into your Bios and see if you can change AGP Aperture Size to a higher value, like 64mb or 128mb.

The path for that error message is referring to the developers machine. What is important is that it references Directx7. Hmmmm, DirectX 9 is backwards compatible with DX7 and Fallout Tactics works fine over here. There's some pretty big patches out there for Fallout Tactics so you may want to try those before doing anything.

Go into device manager, click on the unrecognized device and then point to your CD for drivers. Don't trust the installer on the CD.
-
What's the problem? It works fine in Windows XP with and without DosBox.

Your video card is VERY old. If the Sims 2 doesn't work with the -w switch then you'll need a newer graphics card. Unfortunately with a video card that old you'll probably have to buy a new PC. Hmm, from all of these posts it's likely that the original Sims game was so popular due to the installed base of PC's being capable enough to run it. I wonder how well the Sims 2 will do over time compared to the Sims 1? DosBox does not emulate the CD properly for MW2 or MERCS so you'll need to use a CD Crack. As for the crashing under XP's NTVDM, verify that your running NOLFB from the same command prompt that you execute the game from. Also make sure that you have updated MW2 to v1.1.

What types of video modes do these programs use? Do they require windowed mode or full screen? I noticed you said you ran them full screen but can they be run windowed? If they require full screen then you may want to try this program which was developed and discussed in this thread: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=1659&highlight=vgafix The author has the latest download here: http://www.nomissoft.com/cgi-bin/ax.cgi?http://www.nomissoft.com/files/winxpfix.zip There's another similar utility here: http://www.volny.cz/martin.sulak/

Oh, the irony. Imagine telling people to scan their system for adware/spyware because of autoexec.nt/config.nt problems. So they download the adware/spyware program and the adware/spyware program causes the problem! heh. I've seen this problem on systems without adware/spyware programs so it seems to be caused by something else too, at least we have one of the programs pinpointed....finally.

Quote: A large dairy animal approached Zaphod Beeblebrox's table, a large fat meaty quadruped of the bovine type with large watery eyes, small horns and what might almost have been an ingratiating smile on its lips. "Good evening," it lowed and sat back heavily on its haunches, "I am the main Dish of the Day. May I interest you in parts of my body?" It harrumphed and gurgled a bit, wriggled its hind quarters into a more comfortable position and gazed peacefully at them.
