Is it me, or is Outlook + hotmail become crappy & slow?
DosFreak replied to felix's topic in Software
Try ThunderBird or Outlook Express, could be more optimized for low-bandwidth situations...Just guessing but it doesn't hurt to try. -
Civ 2 works fine in XP. Only issue I've had is that I need to install an updated Indeo codec. The game installs fine. Sounds to me like you may have a corrupted copy or installshield is messed up. Try copying the game to your hard drive and installing from there. What happens when you run setup? Nothing?

Everquest II: Launch issue with Nvidia GForce4 440 Go card
DosFreak replied to Hooahero's topic in Games
Basically, it's saying your GF2 isn't good enough. Unless 3danalyze can fake another vid card I can't help ya. -
I'll check DK out again later today. Been awhile since I tested it.
-
Explain "Not working". What's not working exactly?
-
Odd, the problems that I get with DK Gold just involve it crashing back to the desktop unless I use compatibility mode. This is only when using D3D tho. DDRAW should work fine. You could try reducing hardware acceleration.
-
Don't blame yourself too much. It's Nvidia's/Amd/Intel's terrible marketing that confuses people.
-
Google is your friend. Your GF3 is "better", better as in faster but obviously not "better" as in it doesn't have as much memory as the GF4.

I wouldn't say "XP's default drivers are bad for opengl" because XP doesn't include the OGL ICD's for specific video chipsets, just the generic software opengl32.dll file.

Stick a DVD movie in your DVD drive and see if you can play that. If so then your good, if not then something is up with your drive. You posted your problem in this thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread30365-1.html which is where Sims 2 posts are supposed to go. Thread Closed.

I've had 15 WD 120/200GB drives for the past 3+ years in my external enclosures and PC's. I think so far only 1 has failed, it was a 100GB that I'd had for about 2yrs, I put it in my parent's PC about a year ago and it failed a couple of months ago. This HD had been through ALOT and it most likely failed due to improper cooling in their ancient Compaq. Over that past 4 years I've had about 7 100/120GB?? IBM's....about 75% of those went bad and the others weren't sounding/performing so well so I got rid of those. For me it's: WD/Seagate/Maxtor. No IBM/Hitachi anymore. When I get a job I'd like to start replacing my 200/250GB WD's with 500GB HD's but I really want to go with SATA External Enclosures....the price is too high for those HD's tho.

You left Satellite and ISDN off for some odd reason.

I'm. with APK one this one. I currently use my cell phone for browsing the internet. 19,200 baud! YEAH! It's actually pretty good, once you disable the banners and graphics. The lowest I can get broadband in my area for is $25 for 256k Up/down (Why not 128k or 56k cable?). Which I am currently considering, unfortunately that still seems like too much money for something that I am not going to use 100% of. With my 19,200 I know that I'm using all of it and since it doesn't cost me any more money off of my $50 cell phone bill then I'm happy. But if I get cable, which is always on, even at 256k up/down it seems to me like I'm wasting all that money. Another reason to stay away from all that bandwidth is that I'd probably get carried away and start downloading things that I shouldn't be downloading anyway.

What kind of vxd?

http://www.jillmatrix.com/ has some suggestions. Setting it up as slave, preferabbly in an external enclosure might be a good bet.

Request:: Click XX forum topics link displays hundreds of topics.....
DosFreak replied to DosFreak's topic in Feedback
Odd, just visited linuxcompatible. It said 13 topics and 13 topics is exactly what it gave me....but I believe a couple of days ago it displayed a dozen or so topics but when you clicked on it, it displayed more. Right after visiting linuxcompatible, I visited ntcompatible and still had the problem. -
Okay so the way I understand it: Windows XP loaded first Then you installed 2000 Server. Now when you installed 2000 Server it most likely replaced the NTDETECT/NTLDR on C:\ with the 2000 versions which XP will not like...which means XP will not boot. So to fix that problem you simple copy NTDETECT/NTLDR off the XP CD to the root of C:\ and XP/2000 should now boot. As for the second part of your post.... Are you saying that you booted off the XP CD, and that your computer froze?
-
Usually drivers are loading just before XP loads into the GUI. I would say it's a driver problem, unfortunately since you don't have the XP CD you can't even boot into recovery mode. You could try the standard "Hit F8", and choose "Last known good"...but that most likely won't work in your case. Did you install or do anything before this happened? Do you have a backup? if you had your XP CD, I'd boot into recovery mode, edit your boot.ini and add this line: /BOOTLOG Causes Windows to write a log of the boot to the file %SystemRoot%\Ntbtlog.txt. Example: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /Bootlog Then you could possible track down the problem. Unfortunately doing a repair install most likely won't help since the driver that's likely causing the issue will still load.

I've encountered this several times and unfortunately password breaking tools do not help since the security configuration is the problem. I would have to telnet into the machine using the local admin. Then run secedit and load the default security template. Reboot and then you should be able to log on.
