It's highly doubtfull that's the prob, I'll have to look again but I believe AGP is the last thing to load (that you can see on that screen anyway), then it kicks over and starts the GUI. I believe alot of people had issues when XP came out and it wouldn't install as smoothly as 2k....until they underclocked. That was awhile back tho.
-
Could be memory/overclock. http://www.memtest.org/ What's odd is that if it was memory you should have had issues when XP was extracting the files off the XP CD.... Wait a minute...When starting in safe mode it should show a black screen with the list of drivers that it is loading. Did you see that?

Don't have 2003 DNS in front of me right now but there's probably a checkbox to notify other DNS servers of updates. Just click around until you find it.

Once I have logged back go back into properties then reconnect the client to the magistrate domain, do I then create an account on the domain once I have typed in the domain name? And if I do, I need to actually create the clients name on the server first, yeah? Thanks to everyone for your help, I have learnt quite a lot this morning. Regards You can create the workstation accounts on the server and then connect your workstation to the domain but I prefer doing it all from the workstation since you have to go to the workstation anyway to connect it to the domain if you create the computer account anyway. Simple delete the inactive machine accounts that you have already created for those machines. Now go to each workstation, disconnect from the old domain and reconnect to the new domain. A prompt will ask for your Username/password to verify that you have Rights to add a workstation to the domain, enter user/pass, hit OK and you should get a message box stating that you have been added to the domain. Are you running any other DNS servers?

UPromote can convert from PDC to standalone. But for $99 it's not worth it. Since both PDC's are on the same network it should be really easy to setup a trust. No firewalls or connectivity issues to worry about. I'm missing something here that I can't quite remember....hopefully it'll come to be later today.
-
No, your video card is too old. You'll need a new one. Please post Sims 2 problems in this thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread30365-1.html Thread Closed.

This is basically saying that your workstations cannot find the PDC. What likely happened is that since you rebuilt your PDC the account information for those computers was lost. You'll need to remove the workstations from the domain (it still thinks it's connected to the domain when it's not) and re-add them to your new PDC. Hopefully when you had the server rebuilt, it was rebuilt as a PDC and not standalone.

It's possible. I've had issues where a user could not authenticate properly with the DC. In those cases I'd verify that was the case by creating a new user and trying to access the folder in question as that user.
-
Well from what your saying... You already have a domain setup and you want to add a PDC from a different domain to your domain? So you have two PDC's trying to manage one domain....when there can only be one PDC. If the domain you want to add only has "3-4" computers.....why not just remove those computers from the old domain and add them to your domain?

Check the access rights on the actual directory on the hard drive. I wouldn't set up the share for "Everyone". Everyone means....EVERYONE. Which means that a simple virus could do a share scan, see your shared folder with "Everyone" permissions and wreak havok...all without having to authenticate with the domain. It's better to use "Domain Users" which means that any "Domain User" can access the share. Even better would to just specify only the people who need to access that share.

All right. I was checking out the old thread http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread23542-1.html for suggestion of a new forum layout, Unfortunately that layout wasn't that great so including some of the suggestions from that one and trying to make the progression from the old forum layout to this one as easy as possible....I came up with this! General HOW-TO Legacy OS-DOS/Windows 3x/Windows 9x Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 Discussion NT4/2000/XP/2003 Customization & Tweaking Drivers Games Hardware Hotfixes & Updates Networking Scripting & Programming Security Software Off Topic Buy/Sell/Trade Computer Tech Feedback Gaming Discussion Slack Space - General forum discussion Moderator's Corner It could obviously use better names for the forums and some descriptions but it definetly looks better.

Anyone in a situation to use the -w switch on a graphics card that is not supported by the Sims 2? or how about using 3danalyze Software T&L? Would test these myself but am currently visiting my parents.

Your integrated video card does not meet the requirements for The Sims 2.

Microsoft's AntiSpyware offering "beta #1" screenshot
DosFreak replied to jmmijo's topic in Slack Space
If MS charges for this, people would be nuts for buying it. Come on MS. Fix your browser. Don't create other programs to cover for your browser's weaknesses. From what I've heard from other users the beta is pretty much the same as the GIANT version. Just with an MS logo, missing innoculate and shredder. Probably missing since this is a beta ver. Also from what I've heard GIANT seems to detect spyware bettern than ADAWARE/Spybot. I can easily see MS using the tech with SMS/AD. [Edited by dosfreak on 2005-01-04 02:21:31] -

Found this: http://www.ntcompatible.com/cdetail6343.html Not sure what they are saying but it's possible that they were running it in 98 compatibility mode and it ran slow, Whereas not using compatibility mode it ran at proper speed.

Don't have the game (just the demo) or a P4. Also visiting my parent's so I can't test the demo. Don't know if hyperthreading is an issue for the game but might as well try it: While in the game, switch back to the desktop, go into task manager and check the affinity on the game. It's possible that it doesn't like hyperthreading, so switch it to a single processor.

Add some personality to the posts. Could slow things down a bit I guess would be the only downside.
