I got the Sims 2 Special DVD Edition, placed it in my computer, and nothing happened. There was no autoplay or any reorganization of the game disk at all. I went to Start > Run > D:\, and I got this message: "Windows cannot read this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows." So I took the game back thinking the disk itself was faulty and I got a new one. Same thing. The disk isn't being recognized at all. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Do other DVD's work in your DVD drive?

Is this the DVD version of The Sims 2? Usually if one CD Drive can transfer the file and another one cannot then that means that the CD drive that cannot transfer the file is obviously bad. In those cases I usually yank out the drive, open it up and blow it out. You could: 1. Check the CD for scratches/smudges. Clean it. 2. Copy the contents of the CD to your hard drive and install from there. 3. http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html Download NeroDriveSpeed and slow down your CD drive. (Slowing it down will enable it to read the CD better. 4. Blow out the CD drive with compressed air. Please post here: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread30365-1.html for Sims 2 Problems.

Was watching the news tonight and they are now estimating 150,000. Hard to say what the exact count is since they are just guesstimating.

The Sims Unleashed is an expansion pack for the original Sims game. You'll have to buy that game to use Unleashed.

I've started posting the link to The Sims 2 Problem Solving thread: Post in The Sims 2 Problem Solving Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread30365-1.html in each new Sims 2 post and closing/deleting those threads with no info. If a new Sims 2 thread pops up, point them to that thread, send me a PM and I'll close the old thread. We're gonna lick this Sims 2 prob right in the bud! I'll see if I can parse the Sims 2 threads for good info but I don't know if I'm that interested in wasting my time on the Sims....about the only reason I can see myself wasting the time for is to writeup a good guide so the newbies don't post so much.

Sounds like a bad hd, hd corruption, or memory problems. Since you say it happened after installing an update I'm leaning more towards HD problems. If you had WinPE/Bartpe/NTFSDos you could boot from those and copy over the files and chkdsk the HD. If you do not have those tools then likely the easiest solution would be to stick the HD in another NT4 system, chkdsk the HD and copy over the file.
