Are the images actually bad? Try coping the contents of the CD to your HD. If they copy from the CD to the HD succesfully then the image should be good.

Don't see it.....unless your drunk. Then and only then will it be good. -
Try this: http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/ Should fix menu problems.

Add Windows XP SP2 as seperate OS choice for compatability results
DosFreak replied to a topic in Feedback
Not a good idea. If we started creating seperate entries for each SP then the compatibility database would be unnecessarily confusing. Simply adding a comment for the application that SP2 broke something would be sufficient. Besides it is the job of the developer of the software to fix the software that a SP breaks. Having a seperate SP OS choice for an application that may/may not be fixed would be a waste of database space. -
Win2k pro or WinXP pro for this laptop?

http://nuhi.msfn.org/ Quote: nLite is a GUI for permanent Windows component removal by your choice. After removal there is an option to make bootable image ready for burning on cd or testing in virtual machines. So that means that with nLite you will be able to have Windows installation cd which on installation doesn't install, or even contain on cd, unwanted components -
Slipstreaming SP2 into Windows XP

Sounds like you forgot to incorporate the files that the SP incorporates into the root of the CD. -
Win2k pro or WinXP pro for this laptop?

XP with Nlite should be fine. No 2k because of security unless you run a software firewall of course. -
Hmm, I am unsure if Doom 3 has HT problems or not. Try disabling HT. Also...what ver drivers are you using? In reference to the original poster about processor speed and Doom 3. I just downlocked my XP 2800 (2.2ghz) to 1300mhz. 1024X768=32fps (32 fps with 9700 @ 2.2ghz) 1600X1200=32fps. (14fps with 9700 @ 2.2ghz) Still "playable" even at 1.3ghz with an X800. So I have no doubt that an X800, 6800 paired with a 2ghz P4 would be just fine. The main factor in Doom 3 is video card speed NOT processor speed. Of course AVG timedemo's do not properly reflect minimum FPS but considering that these scores are equal to my 1024X768 scores with my 9700 and I was playing Doom 3 just fine too.

http://xbox.upgrade123.com/contentid-2.html There we go. Looks like 64mb...I also believe that HDTV will be supported. According to this preview: http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox/doom-3/512537p1.html Quote: However, it's clear there's still a lot of work to be done -- there were several areas where the framerate slowed down noticeably. The developers say the goal is a framerate of 30 FPS, and there are a few concessions being made for the Xbox version. They probably won't be that noticeable unless you're looking for them -- a few lights might be removed in one area, a few enemies might be redistributed in another -- and it's all being done so that the Xbox version consistently runs at an optimized rate. http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/doom3/preview_6095270.html Quote: though the Xbox's smaller memory footprint will affect level size; as a result, some levels on the Xbox will be modified to flow better

That's a choice that you'll have to make for yourself. (of course!) But I think any Doom fan would consider running Doom on an XBox sacrilege. I am unsure of what the quality settings on the XBOX would be. Anyone remember how much memory the XBOX has? Doom 3 ULTRA Quality=512mb video card HIGH= 256mb Medium= 128 LOW=64mb Also consider that Deus Ex, Thief 3 on XBOX ran very slowly (no doubt due to the ports being optimized more for the PC). Also I'm wondering if Doom 3 on XBOX will have AA turned on? If so then the image quality would have to be reduced even more so to provide acceptable framerates. Of course the only way to know for sure is to wait for it to come out and see for yourself. Consider: The three biggest engines for the next 3-4 years will be the Unreal engine (Which won't have another major revision for another 2+ years, The Doom 3 engine (which probably won't have another revision for 5+ years) and the Half-Life 2 engine for probably won't have another revision for 5+ years). These engines should run just fine on 2+ Ghz processors and X800, 6800 video cards for the next couple of years. The only problem with buying an X800, 6800 nowadays is AGP vs PCI. There is no difference in speed but the newer mobos will not have AGP support. (VIA may have an AGP/PCI-E mobo). I believe this won't be a problem since as I stated above 2+ ghz processors and X800/6800 video cards should be good.

Hmmm, I was wondering if software DEP slow's things down? Anyone care to do benchmarks. I guess I could fire up vmware with DEP ON/OFF and benchmark but I am unsure of Vmware would provide a releastic desktop benchmark result.

I do not believe you need to worry about that. Just copy the .INF and the .sys to where they need to go and see if it works.

I don't believe a processor upgrade will do much for him. I have been using an XP 2800+ 2.2ghz since September 2002 with 1gb of DDR333. This has been more than enough processor. Even enough for Doom 3. As you can seem from the benchmarks below an upgrade from a 9700 to an X800 pro will provide a significant increase in FPS. You can also see that I am topped out on my processor. Since PCI express is still too new (and therefore buggy). I would like to upgrade to Athlon 64 but the minimal increase in speed vs the $$$$ investment, it would just be a waste. So I'll likely upgrade the other components in my system such as my WD 120GB PATA HD's to Raptor SATA HD's and such until a suitable enthusiast PCI express mobo comes out or until Athlon 64 chips decrease a bit more in price. Doom 3 demo1 9700 x8Pro X8Pro/16pipes 320X240 =41.9 52.9 52.9 400x300 =41.8 52.9 52.9 512x384 =41.8 52.9 52.9 640x480 =41.8 52.9 52.9 800x600 =39.5 52.9 52.9 1024x768 =32.9 52.2 52.9 1152x864 =28.9 50.0 51.2 1280x1024=23.7 45.1 48.9 1600x1200=14.4 36.8 41.7 I'm currently in the process of overclocking the x800 to find the sweet spot. Currently my core I can barely overclock due to voltages, but the memory can be overclocked significantly. Currently have the Core @ 475 and Memory @ 560. Which only gives me a boost of 4+ fps in Doom 3 @ 1600X1200 but over 10+ fps in 2048X1536 in Quake 3 for a grand total of 202fps! Also if you've been reading the many reviews on Doom 3 on the net stating that if you don't have an x800 or 6800 that the Doom 3 experience will be good then well....they obviously don't know what "good" means. I will admit that Doom 3 ran great @ 1024X768 on High Quality with my 9700.....but it runs as it SHOULD BE RUN @ 1600X1200 on my X800 Pro. If you run this game any lower than 1024X768 High Quality then you should quit the game and upgrade your hardware NOW. This is not the game where you want to lower the settings, it will ruin the experience. Right now I am cursing myself for having played 3/4 of the game with my 9700 and loving that I have 1/4 left of the game with my X800.

May I ask why you can't ask your Dad for the password? You could try LC3 on the SAM. Should be faster than whatever you are using now.

What ver are you drivers? Try at least the v4.7 drivers and if you can the v4.9 for best performance.

Here ya go: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ I mostly use ERD Commander 2003 + BartPE nowadays tho....but this program worked fine the last time I tried it.

Mood of the topic. posted August 02, 2004 01:11 Reply With QuoteEdit or Delete Message Okay guys. Apparently the installer package for Doom III is setup to disallow install to a 1) Windows 2003 and 2) Windows 9x and 3) Windows NT 4.0. While we all know that item 3 really isn't an issue as NT couldn't run this game anyway.... the other two have got a few people ticked off. In an effort to combat this, I have written a VBScript that modifies the Windows Installer package "Doom 3.msi" provided on the CD and removes these restrictions. Below is the code: 'Fixes Doom 3.msi file and allows it to install to Windows 2003 and allows you to run the MSI file directly. 'by darkgamorck aka gamorck. Remember the MSI file must NOT be opened by any process while this code is running. 'To execute this code save it into a VBS file. And drag the Doom 3.msi file onto it. This will produce a nice new 'MSI file that enables you to install it anywhere (even on win9x in theory). How you install with this MSI file is 'your own problem. You can reburn a new CD replacing the old MSI file with this new one. Or you can run setup.exe /A 'and administratively copy all of the files to some directly - replace the resulting MSI file in that directory and then 'execute setup that way. Whatever way works for you works for me. 'Cheers. Option Explicit Const msiOpenDatabaseModeReadOnly = 0 Const msiOpenDatabaseModeTransact = 1 Dim argNum, argCount:argCount = Wscript.Arguments.Count If (argCount < 1) Then Wscript.Echo "Please supply the name of the msi file to be modified." Wscript.Quit 1 End If ' Scan arguments for valid SQL keyword and to determine if any update operations Dim openMode : openMode = msiOpenDatabaseModeReadOnly openMode = msiOpenDatabaseModeTransact ' Connect to Windows installer object Dim installer : Set installer = Nothing Set installer = Wscript.CreateObject("WindowsInstaller.Installer") : CheckError ' Open database Dim databasePath:databasePath = Wscript.Arguments(0) Dim database : Set database = installer.OpenDatabase(databasePath, openMode) : CheckError ' Process SQL statements and delete the crap out of this installer! Dim query, view, record, message, rowData, columnCount, delim, column Set view = database.OpenView("Delete from LaunchCondition") : CheckError view.Execute wscript.echo "Launch Conditions Removed" Set view = database.OpenView("Delete from InstallExecuteSequence where Action='OnCheckSilentInstall'") view.Execute wscript.echo "OnCheckSilentInstall step removed" Set view = database.OpenView("Delete from Property where Property = 'ISSETUPDRIVEN'") view.Execute wscript.echo "Property ISSETUPDRIVEN removed" Set view = database.OpenView("INSERT INTO Property (Property,Value) VALUES ('ISSETUPDRIVEN',1)") view.Execute wscript.echo "Property ISSETUPDRIVEN added" database.Commit Wscript.Quit 0 Sub CheckError Dim message, errRec If Err = 0 Then Exit Sub message = Err.Source & " " & Hex(Err) & ": " & Err.Description If Not installer Is Nothing Then Set errRec = installer.LastErrorRecord If Not errRec Is Nothing Then message = message & vbLf & errRec.FormatText End If Fail message End Sub Sub Fail(message) Wscript.Echo message Wscript.Quit 2 End Sub It's quite simple really. After executing this you will need to integrate it into the CD or replace the MSI dumped to disk during an Admin network install of the package (setup.exe /A). After this you should be able to install and perhaps even play Doom 3 on any Windows compatible system you wish (though I doubt Windows NT 4.0 will even work and I somewhat doubt that 9x will either). I hope this helps somebody out there other than myself. Cheers.

Hey look an old thread! Due to the hard work being done on DosBox www.dosbox.sourceforge.net. Daggerfall is now able to be run under DosBox. Currently either DosBox, Connectix Virtual PC, or real Dos are the best solutions to play Daggerfall.

Ooops, just deleted his post. Sorry! The button is so close to the Edit button and with the POS work mouse I inadvertenly clicked Delete......and there was no confirmation! It'd odd that they've include a popup blocker with Nview. Guess they will likely remove it once Windows XP SP2 comes out. I was wondering about their firewall solution tho. Is it hardware based or software? Still waiting for an X800 XT....debating on buying a X800 Pro VIVO and flashing it but I'd rather get the real thing. -

Hmmm, you might want to try VDMSound but IIRC it's limited on the amount of buttons it can use. I suggest going to http://vogons.zetafleet.com , go to the VDMSound forum and ask.
