Zen is right. Don't worry about it.

It's possible that a copy protection driver was updated on your system recently. Try downloading a NOCD crack for the game until you can figure out if it is a copy protection driver problem.

The only way to run USNF in NT4/NT5/XP/2003 is by using Dosbox. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

I actually bought the 9700 in Sept 2002 because I knew it was that good...I bought the AIW in DEC I believe. That means I've had the same chipset video card for exactly 1 year 8 months...and as a PC enthusiast I have been perfectly happy with it. In fact the only reason I'm upgrading is because I like my 1600X1200 gaming and the 9700 doesn't perform that well with AA/FSAA at that res. Which is why I'm getting this new card.

Still in the military...in Iraq. Can't say much for obvious reasons but I can say that it is.....interesting. Been drooling over all the DVD's and computer hardware since I've been over here for the past 3 months. A new vid card and some 400gb HD's along with about 50 DVD's oughta sate my appetite....for about 2 weeks.

ATI WINS overall for gaming! Obviously if you care about just OGL then Nvidia is the winner here but overall the ATI card is "better".

Symantec Corporate Antivirus 9; strange issues, please help.
DosFreak replied to ofelas's topic in Software
I'd recommend the latest ver of Mcaffe. IIRC, it does some of what SAV 9 now does. Such as memory protection. I'll see if I can sit down and do a feature comparison between Mcafee, Trend, NAV. -
Symantec Corporate Antivirus 9; strange issues, please help.
DosFreak replied to ofelas's topic in Software
I'm not sure if I like 9: 1. Waaaayyyy too many services. 2. SSC stopped up[censored] it's listing of computers with defs. I had to reload the old SSC to find out that the new SSC actually did push out the defs but it never actually updated the list. This never happened with the older SSC's. This can probably be troubleshooted by deleting the list and recollecting the data but as I stated before. This never happened with older SSC's. 3. The Microsoft Exchange scanning portion of SAV 9 really annoyed me. Would not let me delete messages because it was scanning. Not sure if previous SAV's were working correctly before but this annoyed me so much that I disabled it. 4. Installation of SAV9 required a reboot for me. Still need to do more testing but I believe SAV 8 didn't...... 5. Had problem with SAV 9 and Office. Received error on opening office that the SAV exension could not be loaded. (Documented at Symantec) Still need to research more but I had to delete some registry entries to get the extension to load properly. If this happens on a deployment of SAV 9 then it's possibly that the deletion of the reg entries will need to be included in the SAV package. -
Clients can't access server resources when server is locked.

2K Pro/Server/AS run at the same "speed". There will be no diff. -
As long as the new key is legit, it should work fine. I don't think OEM license keys are different.

If your asking if you still need to create a seperate ghost image for different computer hardware with Windows XP then the answer is YES. You will still need to do so. Now if you actually have the proper time to sit down and include all of the drivers for all of your machines into one image then I recommend that you do so, unfortunately in the real world this is rarely feasible.

Install either NT4 or 98SE with 98lite. Make sure you have AT LEAST 12mg of memory. I dunno tho, from a security standpoint you might be better off with 3!

Speaking of DosBox and Windows.... A couple of weeks ago we got Win 3.1 and Dosbox to work together. Just got networking working a couple of days ago. Performance isn't there yet and there are still a couple of issues but eventually Win 3.x will be running great and so will all those old Win 3.x games! (Dunno about Win32 yet..haven't tried it yet)

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 Now some of you may be asking why use DosBox when I can use DosEmu or Vmware? Well the answer is: Vmware is not dedicated to gaming. DosBox is. DosBox is primarilly for gaming. Vmware Dos video mode support is terrible. Vmware Sound support is terrible. Vmware Memory Management is terrible. DosBox only emulates what it has to for the games. That's it and it's better for it! As for DosEmu? DosEmu is so ancient that it isn't even funny. You might say that DosEmu has better DPMI support...well you'd be right as far as released binaries go but currently DPMI is being beta tested (Latest CVS has the code) and DosBox has pretty much surpassed DosEmu there. So check it out if you love Dos games then DosBox is the way to go both for Linux and Windows.

Terminal Services on Win2k Pro. It is possible.
DosFreak replied to zen69x's topic in Everything New Technology
Alright! Just read your earlier email about the .reg edits whereas your other method is much simpler. I'd still like to be able to deploy with SMS or some other procedure to push out.....but there is the licensing issue....oh well. Hmmm, 2003 Server RD on XP Pro? heh. -
W2K registry backup - how-to and onto what media
DosFreak replied to SnapperOne's topic in Everything New Technology
NTBackup (Backup System State) or ERUNT The export registry option is not a very good solution. -
Great more bloatware!!!! Good thing I stopped using Norton Utilities back in my 9x/DOS days. Use smaller, better specialized utilities now without the bloat and a couple of months ago bought Acronis TrueImage so....no need for Norton anymore except for NAV corp. Norton actually casues more problems than it solves. It was actually a good product back in the DOS days beginning with PC Utilities....it went downhill after DOS.

Odd, usually the CP is included with the drivers. Perhaps old Nvidia CP is messing with the ATI CP? I've never had any trouble.

Make sure that whatever enclosure you get has both USB2/Firewire. Firewire for the speed. USB for the compatibility with USB1/2 devices since Firewire is rare in desktop PC's. Also you may want to get a Firewire 800 enclosure or if you really want some speed an SATA enclosure. I'm currently strapped for cash so I'm stickin' with my USB2/Firewire400 until I can upgrade from my measly 120/250gb drives to 300gb Maxtors....'cause I'm runnin' out of space...well...I'm pretty much out already.

hyper threading technology not compatible with windows2k?
DosFreak replied to NitRoX's topic in Everything New Technology
It works, just doesn't take full advantage of hyper-threading. That's M$ for ya. With *nix just load the latest kernel. With NT well....you know the drill. Buy the latest ver.
