Ultimate Slipstream Guide (almost)
DosFreak replied to DosFreak's topic in Everything New Technology
You might want to check out WINCDMAN. I haven't had the time to update the Guide....was going to put alot of stuff in there...especially my NT4 SP6a slipstream but alas not enough time to finish these fun projects! For anyone who wants to know: NT4 SP6 slipstream went fine when I did it 2yrs ago...unfortunately didn't get around to including the updated registry entries from SP6a so upon bootup NT4 still reported SP1! Probly get around to finalizing it around 2010. -
If you have not seen it yet, & like films in theaters...
DosFreak replied to sapiens74's topic in Slack Space
Saw Peter Pan & Bad Santa recently. Both GREAT movies. Peter Pan was kind of corny tho... I DO BELIEVE IN FAIRIES! 8) -
You could try USB->Serial but that wouldn't be pretty.....

Are you sure you can't access this thread? http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=3459&highlight=cvs+build The mypixels forum is a totally seperate forum from VOGONS and the registration is a mess. DosBox http://vogons.zetafleet.com/files/dosbox/dosbox-debugger.exe.gz Required DosBox files http://vogons.zetafleet.com/files/dosbox/support-files.rar
-
Not sure what your asking? If you cannot find the thread then do a search for "weekly updated CVS builds".
-
That ver of Dosbox probably doesn't support it. Here's a binary of the CVS from Dec 29th: Game loaded up fine. http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=3459&highlight=
-
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 Hmm, not sure if the official release supports Tyrian. If not I'll give ya a link for the latest binary of the CVS.
-
Hmmm, well the login/password, ftp site, and port information are included in the other thread. I remembered how to included the logon/pass because I've done alot of downloading over the years. Also you can probably just type in "login password FTP URL" or somesuch into google and it'll probably tell ya how to do it.
-
You don't really need FTP software. Here ya go: ftp://leechmenow:ntcompatible@emu-pdx.myftp.org:2077/

Working with one of the Tyrian developers we finally got Tyrian working with DosBox. Check it out! I haven't tested it fully yet but it looks pretty good.

The: What Computer Part did you buy this week thread
DosFreak replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
Quote: Well, I bit the bullet... & got a new videocard! ATI 9800XT... You won't regret it. I picked up the 9700 back when it first came out in 2002. First ATI card I actually bought since the Rage days....I'd seen WAY too much trouble with ATI throughout the years at work and on friends machines to even bother. Even the Radeon's before the 9700 were kinda quirky. After the 9700 I haven't bought an Nvidia card personally...only in situations such as old computers with no AGP where I would get the PCI Nvidia because the performance beat the Radeon's would I buy an Nvidia part. Been looking at the 9800XT but the performance isn't that drastic over the 9700 (at least that's what I've been telling myself since I'm a performance wh---- ) -
MS Released a floppy based corrupt Registry Repair Utility
DosFreak replied to Christianb's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Use ERUNT or Backup Exec to backup your registry. Also you should be able to transfer those floppies to bootable .ISO. -
Right now? ATI has been kicking Nvidia's arse since the 9700 came out. The way Nvidia has been acting I highly doubt they'll be able to recover in the nextgen. The 5950 is a couple of FPS faster than the 9800XT but the 9800 is still more feature rich than the 5950.

Guys, Ignore this thread. It's ANCIENT. I've just never closed it because I don't like closing threads.

Don't mess with Ghost (except for v8....but unless you want to buy 10 licenses or "aquire" it then don't bother). Versions of Ghost before v8 are nothing compared to Acronis True Image v7. I've played around with True Image since it came out and bought v6 a couple of months ago. V7 just came out and it's great. BUY IT. It's great software that will save you a ton of time and effort and you won't have to bother with bootdisks and worrying about wether the software supports this or that like....GHOST. P.S. It's based on Linux unlike Ghost v8 which is a GOOD thing.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/11/26/master.term.reut/index.html Quote: LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms "master" and "slave" on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive. I find the terms "primary" and "secondary" offensive.....actually I regard all spoken language as offensive and shall file a discrimination complaint forthwith. ;(

Game works fine on XP with DX 9.0B. What driver's/video card are you using? I was pretty ticked off when the console ver came out but no PC ver.....but then I was happy again when it came out for PC and it turns out to be an excellent game. The console roots show through alot but they don't hurt the game that much.

Ouch. That really is way too much to pay. I wonder what kind of sells they are getting on Enterprise? I've noticed that many IT shops don't pay THAT much attention to fragmentation...usually only if they experience a problem (slowness, program recommending a defrag) do they even bother to degrag. Hopefully someone with the money to dump that much cash on defragmentation software would have a need for that money somewhere else....but likely not since I've seen Servers in disrepair while managers get 21" LCD's.......

Hmmm, well games don't really use the HD that much. Might be interesting to try to find a game that accesses the HD the most and benchmark it with different filesystems/cluster/DMA settings to see. I doubt very much that there would be much difference tho. I'd say the most major difference would be say permissions or NTFS compression which would affect gaming/performance more so than filesystems/cluster/DMA settings.

Quote: Thanx for the tip DosFreak. I was trying to avoid going off topic there. I was using the C&C example simply as a concrete example to this theoretical kernel business. That's all Too late. Thread's lost now!!!

Quote: Quote: Somewhat true? I've tested a total of 332 Dos Games on NT4/2000/XP since 1997 and not one of them has failed due to filesystem type...... Man, DosFreak... with a repetoire like that in addition to the skills you have? I think you should snag a job w/ "Maximum PC" writing for them. (Kid you not, it'd be good side bucks. Think about it & applying there for a fun side-job. You never know, & it's not like you don't have the skills & experience in the PC Arena as a whole in addition to gaming as well.) * Yea, the filesystem naming is an easy one to overlook... it's not the filesystem itself as a whole really, just a feature that throws those DOS 16-bit 8.3 file/folder-directory naming conventions. APK I certainly need to do something. Getting out of the military soon (1yr left!!!) and need to find something to do. Currently not happy with the military since there really isn't a computer career there and I'm not really interested in a military career. Most of the NCC's are contracted out to civilians while Active Duty are left to do minimal chores such as helpdesk or deployed NCC's....which while still very important to the process are something that I'm not really interested in. I'm much more interested in creating SOMETHING....ANYTHING....instead of just MAINTAINING!!! While I have plans to get more involved online someday (Fleshing out VOGONS, Doing something with my NT Games list.) I still need a real job.....and something like what you suggested would be interesting. I'm really impressed with what we've done with VOGONS so far. It's amazing what you can get acomplished when you have a group of people dedicated to something. Unfortunately I've been extremely busy these last 6 months (Moving from the UK, going to different training classes) so it really sucks when you know that you could do something really great but you can't, because you don't have the time!!! Somebody break my legs please I need time to work online!

Yay! Another thread gone OT!

Quote: Games may not care too much about the file system, but some of them care about the kernel. For Instance, Command And Conquer Windows 95 Edition. If you install it on Windows 2000/XP it will not run because it complains about not finding an entry point into the kernel. Trying Application compatibility modes will NOT solve this problem because the game was written to take advantage of win9x/Me kernels sigh IIRC, I believe it's the IPX...somethingsomething.dll in the C&C folder. Download an updated ver from Westwood. Unfortunately this will disable networking. This was the situation last time I checked. Only other alternative is to install C&C under Vmware/VPC and play it from there which runs really well.
